Thank you for the great content ! Fast learning curve here ;o) - I still have a little question about the model I want to export from Blender to Substance : do I have to apply the modifiers in Blender before exporting the geometry in FBX ? F.e. I usually use modifiers with my geometry such as "Mirror", "Subdivision Surface" and "Weighted Normal"... Thank you.

I believe on export Blender applies your modifiers.

During the pop-up window in the export, you have on the right "selected only" option

Hi, at 4:15, how can you with one click select such large parts of the model while being in Face Edit Mode? Do you hold a shortcut to enable you to do that? Clicking on one polygon should only select that polygon and not a whole bunch of polygons. Can anyone clarify?

You do that by hovering over the area you want to select. You then click L ("L" stands for "Linked"), which selects all the faces that are connected to each others. In the video's model those parts of the model have been split into different meshes, and that's why they can be selected individually with L. You can pick various options from the sub-menu after clicking L to control what works as the limit: normal, material, seam, sharp or UV's. Hope this clarified it for you! :]

mid level of displacement texture in painter is 0.5 so the gray color is 0. but how I can change the mid level to 0 value, with is black is 0?

I'm getting an error trying to write ID maps in the latest version of Substance using the method illustrated here. The ID maps fail to write and I get the log message: 'Can't create resource from baker result: Failed to write temporary image ... Unknown error.' Any idea why that would be happening?

How do I find Pack UV in Blender? Did not see it.

its in the UV editor aria. in there. first in 3D view edit mode. select all. then you'll see your UV. over in the UV window. In the UV window ( not 3d) select all. Then at top go to UV, drop down menue, in the middle you should see Pack UV Islands.

Substance need a proper exporter. i.e. "Save Scene as..." Blender, FBX, USD and it creates a file that doesn't need to be manually relinked it just worked.

Perfect but i would like to see videos aswell about import and exporting 3d models from blender and substance because i get a lot of truble when i try to export my final object from substance to blender back

@@Substance3D Yeah, that is a link back the video this comment is in. Good for preparing the model for Substance Painter, but not on how to get the textures back into Blender.

Hello Adobe. I have a really nice idea for Substance Painter software. I created model in Blender 3D. In blender I have different objects with different materials. I selected all objects and enter in multi-edit mode, UV unwrapping them into single UV map. After I export fbx and import it in Substance Painter. Baking maps I use also to make ID maps to simply add different materials to individual ID map color. Of course after baking ID maps I get long list of materials such as (metalic part, plastic cover, glass frame, rust bolts and etc.) After my texturing is done I can export it in a bunch of a lot, really lot of textures, but I want something like checkbox to have ability to export all this different list of materials into single map without need to use another software to combine them into one ( Texture Set Combiner for Substance Painter ). Please answer me under this comment if my proposal can be realized in the future versions of Substance Painter.

The first part of a video is well explain indeed, but second part (practice) is pretty fast and there is no following from you what and where to press. I'd work on that if these videos meant to be for begginers. EDIT: well, some later parts (assigning texture to specific part of a model is decently explained) but when you've been changing color texture it was way too fast to follow

It's easy...shade smooth...add loop cuts, pull/push them toward the edges you need them...use Blender Smart UV unwrap...PRESTO! make texturing magic in Substance Painter...

But if you export multiple texture sets, that isn't suitable for a video game. So wouldn't you want it all UV unwrapped in one texture set?

You can use the texture sets for 'organisation' of materials from Blender to Substance, and then export unified final maps to your game engine, so you'll just have one set for your model.

with the geometry mask you get 2 piece of texture or even 1.
