Come on a tour of my current prepper pantry! I have added some items since my first tour on the Introduction to Food Storage video. Since I have started couponing to add to my pantry I realize I am in desperate need of pantry reorganization!
Many items will need to be repackaged as well in order to preserve them for long term storage and to protect them from any bug infestation. Always open to hearing your thoughts and ideas :) I value your feedback greatly!

If you're able to get a 12 bedroom home you can use one room for your pantry room that way the bedroom would be big enough or have a house built where you have a big supply room in the house that way in case if you need AC you can turn the AC on for the Room

My family is against it. But after not having any food in stores due to covid in 2020. I dont care if they dont agree with me. I did the grocery shopping and saw the stores and I had to go to the store at 5am to get one box of pasta. My husband didnt see that so he doesnt understand as much. I dont care if he thinks I'm crazy.

Thanks for the vids... How long did it take you to store up your food? Also do you have an idea of how many years worth you have?

I have "mystery feet" too :-) Makes me nuts when I go to get something and the bin is EMPTY. That's when she gets the "What does it take to write it on the we need list" lecture. LOL. Organizing and rotating is a challenge for everyone. A few years back I did an experiment to make it easy on myself. I bought several 55 gal snap top food grade drums. I packed a years worth of food (and other useful things) in each then I sealed them up and dated them. I let them go 2 years, and then rotate. I stocked my pantry with the barrel from 2014, and we are eating it now. Of course I supplement with FRESH VEGGIES because I still can. It is working out well for us. I don't have to worry about whats for dinner, lunch or breakfast. I just read the menu and go with it. I just refilled the barrel and will open it again in 2018. I am happy to say that so far, I have had -0- problems with spoilage or rancidity. :-)

I love this. Most prepper videos I see are foods I would never eat and they wouldn't rotate because they're so unhealthy. This is more realistic, I think, especially for people concerned about their health. You have higher quality, nutrient dense foods that may have shorter shelf lives, but if you use the food in your storage, you'll always have a healthy food storage in case of an emergency and you'll actually have food you'll feel good about eating. Because let's be honest, an emergency situation would be stressful enough without having to eat food you don't like or loaded with preservatives that make you feel like crap at a time you really need to be in optimal health. So, I appreciate the ideas on what to store. One thing I did notice, though, is that if you had an earthquake, you'd have a mess in there. I live in earthquake territory, so I'd probably be more careful about how I store food on shelves. You might not have that risk, though, so I'm sure this system works great for you.

Wowwww!!u have a fabulous stockpile!! I WISH I HAD THE FINANCES TO CREATE THIS AMOUNT OF SECURITY!! Everytime i go to grocery i am able to get about 5 to 6 extra can goods to stockpile and to rotate cuz we are just able to have a very minimal working pantry. Its just myself and my two children and my elderly uncle whom i take care of cuz he has dementia. So, we do the best that we can just to put food on the table for today much less a year from now. But we do not waste and we make the best of what we've got. I JUST WISH WE HAD THE MEANS TO STOCKPILE THIS MUCH FOOD AND STORAGE ,WOULD BE THE LEAST OF OUR WORRIES CUZ WE WOULD JUST BE SOOOO HAPPY TO HAVE IT!! GOD BLESS US THAT WE HAVE ENOUGH TO SURVIVE! I WORK TWO JOBS AND MY UNCLE IS UNABLE TO WORK BUT I PINCH EVERY DIME I HAVE! CAN U UNDERSTAND FRIEND?? God bless AMERICA!! IT WILL BE HARD FOR US TO GET AS MUCH FOOD AND SUPPLIES AS YOU HAVE, STORAGE WONT BE A BURDEN OR PROBLEM FOR US CUZ WE WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL TO HAVE IT THAT WE'D FIND A PLACE FOR IT NO PROBLEM! YOU ARE SOO FORTUNATE TO HAVE WUT U HAVE AND ITS ALMOST INSULTING THAT U ARE FEELING ANNOYED U CANT FIT IT ANYWHERE! DO U UNDERSTAND MY BELOVED FELLOW AMERICAN!?? Im so happy u are able to take care of yourself and stock up and i wish u n your family the best! GOD BLESS YOU!😂💪🇺🇸👼

We cleared the useless junk out of some cabinets in my den today, and organized our canned goods in there. We have everything organized by what it is, like beans and peas in one cabinet, various veggies in another, fruit in the next, then soups and canned meats in the last. The really great thing is, now we can see what we need more of, and what we have enough of for now. Plus, our kitchen pantry is no longer running over. Yay!

U may want to freeze the package stuff. Like the rice, pasta stuff, dried peas & beans. Stuff like that. Now I don't freeze loaf bread just garlic breads. I also use to freeze milk but it still went bad. I do however freeze butter milk in the cartons. U can put the dried milk in zip bags and freeze them as well. Put the rest of all ur box stuff like Mac & cheese in totes bc bugs will get into them. Also u can go to the Dollar Tree and get cantainers for your sugar and flours bc if not, u will get bugs. Since I've done all of this, I've had no problems with bugs bc I coupon so I try to buy to stock up when there's a sale

That is a lot of bread. How does it not mold? I don’t eat that much bread but do buy 2 loaves, one for freezer one for refrigerator to make an occasional sandwich, toast, French toast. If you put it in microwave to warm it is still good for a sandwich, so I am curious as to how you keep so much bread from going bad.

what I want to know is do you have (as I do) people in your extended family that think your nuts? I really hate that! BUT I cannot convince them as to the why....its just amazing that people think this is hording....anyway, after all that, I gotta say I LOVE your pantry, its very good use of your space.
@MaBerryHomestead
@MaBerryHomestead 5 жыл бұрын
@Avonleanne... I found out that the best way to explain was when I suffered a job injury that led to unexpected job loss. My pantry and freezer meals provided my family months of food while I could use limited income for monthly bills. Unexpected job loss, job injuries, short/term illnesses, pregnancy (during & after), etc will all lead to decreased income. Weather and housing conditions can also lead to a limited income by having to relocate. These are some of the ways having a stocked pantry and freezer meals can help you and/or your family. Being a prepared can be done for many reasons. Pick your choice, long term illnesses (MS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, etc- causing increased fatigue, makes freezer meals & pressure cooked meals in a jar ideal), etc... Rocky economy is another one, being prepared to feed your you and/or your family relieves income pressure and frees up incoming money to pay monthly shelter costs & vehicle (?). Hope these ideas have been of help to you

Sure :) Lots of common brands have low sodium versions such as Campbells, and Progresso and Amy's Organic soups and many others. I actually have lots of low sodium soup cans stored. I am prepping for 5 people and one has high blood pressure. :) I understand your concern. It may make more sense to store dried veggies and meats (freeze dried meats) and make your own soup with your own ingredients if severe sodium restriction is required. There is always a way :)

What about something along these lines? The can organizers...I tried to post the link but it wouldn't let me. :( They are basically a very heavy duty self rotating can holder that you can order in different configurations to hold different sized cans. While they seem costly, from reading reviews it seems they will hold up for years of constant use, so it might be worth the investment? Maybe buy a few at a time? It does seem that the more you buy the less S&H would be.

The dollar general and family dollar have them here. I'm gonna start getting them. Sometimes we need to go to the food pantries because I have developed alot of health problems so we really have alot of canned veggies but we usually take about half to the soup kitchen. I don't want to stop doing that. I am new at prepping. I hope one day I will have a stockpile like yours. Its just my granddaughter, my husband and myself. I think at first my husband thought I was crazy but now he sees what I am doing and he thinks it's cool. I've gotten my granddaughter involved and she is excited about it. Whenever she goes shopping she picks up some of this or that. I know it is serious but it's also become fun.

+Leni Mikaelson I never throw rice away Leni. Do you have dogs? If you don't feel comfortable eating it yourself then make dog food. Waste not want not :-) Dry canning is cheap and easy. All you need is quart jars and an oven. This method will safely keep your rice for years. Look into dry canning for grains and beans since you don't have a food saver. :-)

Can foods don't last that long. It is better to buy freeze dried food from Wise Food, Mountain House or Auguson Farms. They will last 25+ years. I put some vegetables up about 8 years ago. Left them in a cool dry place for about 2 1/2 years. Opened a can and liked to have thrown up. You couldn't eat it.

I do not understand stashing this stuff. There is a ton of food here and only 2 people? When do they expect to eat all of this? What about the expiration dates? Several years back I used to "stock up" for the winter, mostly canned goods, jarred goods and boxes goods. However it turned out that I was wasting money and things were passed their expiration date, and it was not getting used. So I quit doing that. I agree, if you live in a place like Alaska off the grid then you have to prepare, but living in the subburbs, I do not think it is necessary or practical.

You do know that expiration dates are not accurate, as the fda forces manufacturers to set those dates so people go out and keep buying more. Its about one of the only reasons our economy is still afloat from all the govt corruption actually..... Just from the fraudulent dates on food supplies.

My problem in prepping with a lot of food storage, is that most foods that are good to stockpile are canned goods. They usually are full of salt, sugar, and chemicals. I don't eat a lot of canned or preserved foods, so rotating them would be a problem. I see what others are stockpiling, and it almost makes me ill looking at it. I get frustrated, because I won't eat most of that. I'm not a bean eater, a rice eater, an oatmeal eater or a cornmeal eater, either, to any extent, so buying large quantities of this stuff would not get rotated very well. It is a quandary for me, and yet I know there are others who don't find it to be that much of a problem. Limited selection of foods is probably where this is going to lead me. Which, if we are talking six months, is probably not the end of the world.

Was watching a show recently about families in africa who dont even have clean water to drink and that came to mind while watching this. I challenge you to give a few cases to the food bank.

I understand the prepper mentality, although I think they overdo it. Unless you live on top of a mountain, or out in the sticks with only one road in and out, hoarding enough food to last for months just doesn't make sense to me. It bothers me to see hoarding when there are people now, in your own town, who don't have food. It is not only the system that can collapse in an unexpected emergency. It is people who have their own personal emergencies in a nation awash with food, who need some. I hope that all the preppers out there who have whole rooms stocked to the ceiling will share a lot of it with hungry neighbors through the local food bank, and not wait for an incoming meteor to take our systems down. While we huddle and wait with our guns for all h... to break loose, people need help now.

They are not hoarders. Also they use their hard working money to buy the foods unlike those people who spent all their money on luxury items and end up has no money for foods.

People like this is hording so no one else can get it. Poor people don't have the money so it will be the poor who die. I called a church for food the answer was no. I am 68 years old and with lung and heart problems. I'm on a fixed incomei barely have money for food every month. Seniors only get $16.00 a month food stamps. So unless God keep me well I'm doomed
