Making an appointment for small vehicle repairs. Lengthening my preps. Had a month's extra dog food. Adding another month and 6 mos of her meds. Modern Refugee- I have to chuckle sometimes at your videos. I keep a spare thermostat around as well! Check on Bono’s in the truck as well. We go to the Amish “ Bent and dent” stores too and they are PACKED with people from the city (you can always tell the people from the city). Any spare parts / repair items are a must have for a solid preparedness plan. Especially considering how many SHTF scenarios can be “slow Roll” events. Like inflation, economic collapse, political discord, food and other supply chain shortages. My first Platoon sergeant in the army always said “ i’d rather have and not need Than to need and not have” his Humvee was called the “ gypsy wagon “ Learned a lot off of that guy.

Hi 👋 MR... I find the Asian markets have a lot of bean noodles, glass noodles or rice noodles that are great. The ones from India are less likely to be cross contaminated. The wider ones are good subs for egg noodles or linguine. The thinber ones are obvious, 😆. Quinoa makes good wraps, bread & thin crust pizzas ( need a blender or a good grinder/mortar & pestle). Lentils also make a good gf bread. I have several recipes for each and i really like them. Yep. Buckets of water in each room to keep it warmer. In a side note.... Get the freezers empty as soon as possible. Turn it into shelf stable is the word i got recently. From what i can tell it's a good idea right now. It helps to know how to make your own candles, too from fats, etc. Yes, the more used folks get to power outages the less alert they will be when that event happens and things get going in earnest.

Lithium Batteries will be needed for your gear. CR123, AA & AAA are critical! In my opinion, rechargeable batters are a waste of time, unless they are all you've got. We recently lost our Electrical power for 14 plus days, during Hurricane Helene up in the mountains of Appalachia, WNC. This of course meant, no running water, no flushable toilets, no cellular service (all lines were down - still yet, many are still down) no internet, no TV, etc. Water is #1 so have secondary and third sources of water and heat. We also set up an outdoor portable Outhouse System, (Luggable Loo, a tent, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, wet wipes and kitty litter to cover the waste and smell) We even outfitted it with Survival Books and Magazines! LOL This way we didn't have to waste gallons and gallons of water in the back of the toilet tank. What will you do when the lights go out? 🙏🇺🇸

Only in 1925 did half of all homes in the U.S. have electric power. Most recently, during Hurricane Helene, we lost power for 14 days. We figured things out. Ask yourself, when your,power went out for one minute, what went through your thoughts? Will you be prepared when the lights go out? It's coming, either by storm damage, EMP, or "bad actors" so we all need to plan accordingly! Are you fully prepared? 🙏🇺🇸

Oh man, our egg prices are through the roof! $3.50 a dozen just for regular old eggs - not pasture or organic or anything. But chicken legs can still be had for $1 a lb here. So interesting how things vary by region (Southeast Texas here) TIP - put your yeast in the freezer and it will keep it active for a really long time (I'm on year 4 for the bulk package I bought during 2020.) I also have a car charger that goes in the cigarette lighter, it has USB for phones but also can take a regular plug. I use it to charge my laptop on the go but also good to know I can run some things from the car battery if needed.

What’s the best way to keep store potatoes? Seems like they get bad on me quick. I just toss them in a colander in the pantry, bad idea?
@ModernRefugeeАй бұрын
The big thing with store bought potatoes is they wash them. This greatly reduces their shelf life. If you grow your own potatoes you should air cure them after you harvest them. I have stored them several ways. They will last in a cool dark basement in a bucket with holes drilled in it. There needs to be air circulation around them. They can be stored in the ground too. This is called a clamp. I did a video on that technique awhile back. I hope this helps.
