Rather than throw out all those bones from the turkey, make something useful. Your garden will love it! You can do this with any kind of bones too! A good thing to remember throughout the year!

Here is a tip I use. You don't have to run your oven to cook your bones. I wait until I have finished using the oven, put my bones in and turn it off. The residual heat will dry the bones out. Occasionally I have had to put them in for a second time, but usually once works. This way you are not having to use the oven, and thus saving fuel (or propane etc).

I was told I have COVID a day before Thanksgiving. My family was split up to four different locations (I have eight children) and I spent Thanksgiving alone. I was brought bone broth today by my brother and it was such a blessing as I have not been able to eat many solids. I feel like the broth breathed life back into me. Thank you for sharing this information. No doubt it is a lifeline to others as well. God bless those who may be suffering with COVID to find this information to nourish and strengthen their bodies.

I leave a carcass/bones on low in the crockpot for at least 24 hours for bone broth. I used to do three or four hours but it makes a much more rich broth when you simmer longer. I’ve never made bone meal, thank you so much for showing us how!

You made some very good broth. However : True Bone broth. : bones , for every 1lb of bones add 1 tb vinegar & cook 8 hrs to 3 days ...the longer you cook it the better it is & at the end of cooking the bones are easily crushed. You can also use pressure canning ( instapot ) for 3 hrs or so. GOD BLESS

Well that's cool and I will be doing it as I already bummed my brother's turkey carcass from his family dinner tomorrow. I roasted off a turkey last weekend and boiled the remaining carcass for several hours to make broth for my dogs. Had a lot left over that I canned last year and didn't think I needed to can anymore turkey broth. So I cooled the broth and skimmed off the fat and I was left with turkey bits and a nice thick collagen gel. My animals act like it's manna from heaven when I warm it up and pour a little over their dry kibble (and these kids get canned food every evening for a treat.) So thanks PB~just another way to use what we've got and I like that!! As little waste as possible. God bless. ~~Laura

My granddog (who lives with me) mainly gets dry dog food and loves it, when I open a can of chicken, to make me some chicken salad. I save the juice from the can and mix it with his dog food, enough to do it twice. Of course he did get a couple of pieces of turkey for Thanksgiving.

Good morning Mr. PB! You've inspired me to take it a step farther today! I roasted two turkeys this year, so my DD could have plenty of leftover meat to take home with her. Yesterday I put both carcasses into my roaster with some vegetable skins and peelings I've saved in the freezer and cooked it all day and last night. This morning I scooped out 5 quarts of broth. I could've gotten more broth out, but I decided to can all the "ookey stuff" up for my preps for my dog. Having watched this video, I'm going to try my hand at bone meal, but I think I'm going to leave the bones in the dehydrator to dry them out. Going to hit the thrift store for a used blender (nope,...not using the Vitamix for this!). P.S. Thank you for no fingers in the blender---we like you with all digits firmly attached! I'm sure Mrs. PB feels the same.

Bone meal for the garden, don't judge me but perfect way to get rid of that invasive perimeter invasion and your garden will benefit too. JS Yes it is a gruesome thought but you have to dispose the leftovers anyway. Back to reality, I strain my broth and pressure can it up! It flavors so many soups and casseroles. Sorry had a really weird moment.

I use the instant pot to make broths and bone broth. This year I spatchcocked the turkey, and I put the neck, back and the tail in the instant pot to make broth for the gravy and the dressing. I can add the rest of the drippings later to the gravy when I put the leftovers away. Now I wished I had kept those bones too! But oh well now I know better.

I often get 10 pound bags of chicken thighs - I had a commercial cooking food service company - I serviced cooking equipment in many high end 5 star restaurants - They would cook 60 gallons of chicken bones for 24 hours to make bone broth - they would cook the bones till they could be crushed with there fingers - I save my chicken bones in the freezer till I have enough bones to top off my instant pot - then fill it to the top with water and pressure cook them eight hours - At that point you can squeeze a bone and it will crush - I strain the bone broth and then crush the bones up with a potato masher & fill the pot with hot water again and pressure cook it 4 more hours - and strain the broth again - I can it in pint jars - in my case it makes about 12 pints of high end restaurant grate broth - As for the bone meal I dehydrated it - it makes about a quart of dehydrated bone meal - I put it in a jar and dry charge it - I treat my dogs with dehydrated bone meal -
