I haven't bought bread in decades, and even after all these years, we still cut into one loaf the moment it comes out of the oven and slather a slice apiece with a gluttonous amount of butter. Often, we consider it dinner. Love your channel!

It is tempting to slice into the hot loaf, but it’s still cooking internally. If you let it cool completely you’ll see an even better bake and crumb.

Hi John! You mention the oven light to keep the temp warm for letting the dough rise. My bread never did well with that so in my above the range microwave, I turn the stove light on and let the dough rise in the closed microwave. Works like a champ!

My great grandmother use to make 7 loaves a day (14 kids) my grandmother (1 of the 14) made her bread. She taught me. My mother never made bread. I had my children making everything from scratch when they were very young. Great family time and they loved it. My son is a very good baker. He's actually a very good cook too. And he carried on a tradition of doing it with his two girls. It's the best feeling to make your own food. I made sure that I had as much home cooked/baking goods when I got pregnant with my first child. I definitely do not like boxed anything. And on a different note, all these people are anxiety pills today should try making seven loaves of bread in a day lol. Beating that dough was a good way to get frustration out😅

Pro tip...put the butter in the freezer and grate it into the flour....makes those amazing fluffy pockets in your white bread...game changer

Funny you say you’re in Oakland and mention the smell of baking bread….Bay Area native here and remember the spot on either 580 or 880 that you always smell bread when you’re driving through 😊 Wonder if you know what I’m talking about??

And you can use bread recipes to make so much more. I would make for example cinnamon raisin bread. My kids loved the cinnamon raisin.

I was looking today for a good sandwich bread recipe and of course I checked John’s page first but was sad he didn’t have one so I gambled on a someone else’s recipe and I wasn’t too happy with the result. Of course this comes out right after I made the other recipe. Just another reason to make more bread 😆

I'm having to limit my carbs to almost zero bc of my diabetes rn, but it doesn't mean I can't make bread flour the rest of the family! ❤ I LOVE baking bread of all kinds so came to watch you & you didn't disappoint! 😍 Just one tip: roll your dough towards you, top down, & pinch it closed each time you do. Roll again, then pinch, all the way to the end, then pinch the roll closed. And don't worry about the ends, they'll be sealed by their rise & baking. This way of rolling it & sealing it as you go makes for a tighter loaf & better crumb development as the bread bakes. 😉 Took me years to figure that out. And didn't be afraid of being too rough on the dough, if there's good gluten development, flattening it won't mean you won't get a good rise again, it'll just add even more structure! Slap away to get a good stretch of that dough! 😂❤

Ive tried several sandwich bread recipes that have all failed. I made this bread yesterday and it was perfect! Only thing ill change next time is instead of rolling it out to 8x12 , I might do 6x12 because it was a little on the short side. But its the perfect sandwich bread recipe!

@PreppyKitchen I recently saw a short which featured a Grandma’s tip for scooping flour if you don’t have a scale. She (the Grandma) pushed a whisk straight down into the center of her flour canister, then pulled it straight up. She shook the flour (which was contained in the center of the whisk) into her mixing bowl as 1cup. It was a basic large whisk. Thought of you🫵 John when I watched that short! 💖

Question: if I want to assemble the dough( at step 4) can I pop it right away in the fridge before the 1st rise? Then bring it out the next day for the 1st and 2nd rise steps to cook? Also, is step 4 when I can freeze a loaf? Thank you in advance for your time! ❤

Each packet is 1/4 oz or 7 grams of yeast.

I just started making my own bread again after a long hiatus. It’s been kind of dry. I cut it right out of the oven. I like wheat and cut back on the whole wheat flour. But it is still dry. I’m going to hold off the immediate cutting and see if that is the problem. I’m 72, bad shoulder and so happy for my stand mixer.

This looks really yummy and you make it look so easy. I'm wondering if this recipe could be used to make cinnamon rolls and if not do you have a recipe for cinnamon rolls using the KitchenAid?

Yes. This amount of dough will probably make 2 9x13 pans of rolls. Stretch each half more than he did and go from there. If you want bigger rolls use the entire dough and use 1 9x13 pan

White bread is my favorite kind of bread. Store bought is good, but this homemade one looks really amazing as well. Btw out of all your recipes, I’ve made mostly from the breads section [Glazed donuts, (Deep Fried) & pretzels bites twice, focaccia (from the new book) and dinner rolls. The dinner rolls were my absolute favorite, I’m so gonna make them again. Thank you for sharing the best recipes)

In case anyone else was wondering - you can replace active dry yeast with instant yeast in a recipe using the same amount and omitting the proofing step. Just be mindful that your dough might rise a bit quicker.

Thank You for the recipe. Only international recipe channel i've subscribed . My convection oven can handle only one loaf. Please mention At what stage we can keep the dough in freezer? Is it after first rice or after second? Should it be kept on loaf tin or wrapped as a ball ? Total 7gm of yeast or 2x 7gm? (saw the grams from your website). What if I have only Instant Yeast? Can i use that with a lesser amount? Hope you see this comment & reply. Thanks. Love from India :)
