Made this cake last night. So so good. The hardest part is the parchment paper staying down in the pan while you pit in the batter. The Cinnamon ribbon is perfect. And thanks for the lessons on flour measurements, sugar contributing to cake softness, and how salt intensifies the flavor etc. I LEARNED so much from this video in addition to getting a wonderful coffee cake. Thanks!!

I made this recipe for the first time, and I think it turned out fantastic. I used cake flour instead of all purpose (I had a huge new box) and it turned out perfect. I am going to try that on the next batch. Thanks for sharing this recipe. All of your recipes turn out sheer perfection!

This IS the best coffee cake. I like your suggestions about WHY to do certain things, like putting the crumble topping heavier around the outside of the batter. This recipe brings me back to my early teenage years trying out my first attempts at cooking & baking. This recipe is very similar to my neighbor’s recipe called “Sour Cream Coffee Cake” which I still have handwritten on an index card marked “recipe from Trudy.” It was my first crumb topping and such a delicious and easy snack cake for beginning bakers but you can make it anytime, all your life. It did not have the icing drizzle, but it did have some coco powder in the cinnamon sugar layer, which I recommend. Thanks for bringing back the memories, John!

9:03 not over mixing is such an important point to make, especially for new bakers, because you'd be surprised how many people don't know that it changes the texture. One of my coworkers was telling me she tried making banana bread, and it came out tough and was terrible. When I asked her how long she mixed it, she said 5 minutes! In a stand mixer! So I explained to her how that was way too long!

I luv, luv you baking tutorials 😊. I am a cooking /baking teacher at summer camp and teach alot of baking : cake, doughs/bread and cookie recipes and I always tell my studnets that salt is essential in baking or else the cakes and cookies can be so as I say disgustingly sweet. I compare it to the sweetness you'd taste from a store bought jar frosting that's so ,so sweet instead of a homemade frosting with depth when salt and other extracts added. I like how you described how salt helps alot to give the desserts dimension and not to be sweet just for the sake of it being sweet just because it is classified as a dessert. Will definitely try this coffee cake recipe soon 👍🏾 👍🏾!

Alrighty... So I decided that the first thing I was going to ever BAKE was coffee cake. I came to KZbin University and this is the recipe that I went with. I don't know who is the originator of this recipe but I did follow your instructions to a relative T. And considering that prior to this I have never baked a thing in my life and It turned out marvelously, the recipe and your measurements are perfect. I completed this recipe using a New wave bravo x l counter top Oven/air fryer.. My first attempt went a little awry. With the heat set to 350 on a bake setting, and the tirmer set to 55 minutes. The streusel topping started to burn at 41 minutes. But the cake was done perfectly. I removed the burnt Topping and moved forward with the drizzle. Other than the part of me that knew about the burnt topper I removed it was perfect. I Reluctantly shared my first baking experiment at work. I got all good reviews. Ended up eating the last three pieces for lunch.😅 On my second attempt, I followed the Measurement instructions to a T again. I left the temperature the same but I cut the timer down to 35Min. Approximately halfway through I switch the heat Settings from 50/50 top/bottom to 40/60 top/bottom. . And then halfway through the remaining 17 minutes to 25/75. At 8min 10/90 an at 5 all bottom. I was dialing it back as I watched the Topping become encrusted and darkened. It came out pretty perfectly with the exception that my crumble was a crust rather than a crumble. But the flavor again was a complete hit and everyone loved it. I'm on lunch now and I have to find something to eat because I have no leftover coffee cake.😁. On my third attempt, I intend to use a coworker's suggestion to wait until the 7-10 of the 35 minute cook-time to add the struesel topping. I'll keep you posted on perfecting your perfect recipe in my nuwave oven.
