I use my grandmothers hand mixer. When she passed away at 97 I was given the mixer along with a book of all of her recipes and a lot of her kitchen tools. I even have a hand sewn apron she used. 🥰

sarah - I'm the grandmother here. My granddaughter has inherited all my love for sewing, crocheting, knitting, weaving and baking (and reading, writing and playing the violin - but she's smarter than me). As she is the only granddaughter I have, I am leaving her with everything including my 1860 coal / wood stove.. There's nothing more wonderful or warm than getting back to the independent basics. As far as your grandmother's recipes, you might consider putting them in a book for posterity. It's what I did for my girls - but they get their recipes online. Someday, I tell them, the internet might not be available. Hard copies are best.::))

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who used there grandma’s old appliances. She always saw me accurately. Never misunderstood or punished me for things I didn’t do. She didn’t ignore me. She taught me to cook and to embroider,crochet, sew, hook rugs. She died almost thirty years ago and the theme song to her soap opera is still fresh in my mind.

What soap opera did your grandma watch? As I read your comment, as soon as you said you still can imagine hearing how the soap opera sounded as it began, I too instantly had my grandmas soap opera theme song come to mind! Days of Our Lives, and As The World Turns! Now, I’m really curious to know your grandmas soap opera! Can’t wait to hear if our grandmas watched the same shows!

If you want to lengthen shelf life, leave out the pecans. Oils within the nuts will eventually turn rancid and spoil the loaf. Great recipe!

Amd use extra bananas and omit the eggs to lengthen the shelf life. I agree re: nuts
@wardrobelion
@wardrobelion 2 жыл бұрын
Coconut oil doesn’t go rancid but bananas have a lot of moisture in them which causes molding. If dehydrated bands were powdered for flavor and vacuum sealed it should be shelf stable. The eggs were cooked so they should be fine…my opinion only.

I like to peel my bananas before freezing. Saves a step and waaayy less messy than freezing with the skins. And they aren’t all brown and slimy that way. Peel, place individually on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and freeze, then bag up for freezer storage. We use them every day for green smoothies so I even buy them with spots. My two cents. Have a blessed day!

I've made several different types of bread this way, some sweet, some savory. 2 years on the shelf has been the maximum for quality and taste, from my experience. It seems the third year the oils get rancid. I don't have a banana bread canning recipe so thank you for this! Keep up the good work!

I'm hyped! I have to share this. I just found some canned banana bread from Oct 2016! It was still sealed so I popped it open prepared for whatever. It smelled like banana bread. I sliced off a tiny piece and tasted it and IT TASTED LIKE BANANA BREAD and it was nice and moist. 2016! I should mention that when I made it I added "Fruit Fresh" to the batter which has citric and ascorbic acid in it which is a preservative. That probably made the difference. When I made this bread I experimented with different breads: pumpkin, banana, cornbread and another I forget what it was. I kept my eye on them and over time they popped up and I had to trash them. Here it is Sept 2021 and the only ones that survived long term was this banana and an Orange Pumpkin bread. I'll be trying the pumpkin bread soon. I'm thinking citric is key. Looks like I'll be looking for cheap over ripe bananas to make more canned banana bread😃😃

I have canned banana, cornbread and orange nut breads. They didn't keep long term. After 6 months the the lids started popping. The orange bread; however, lasted almost 2 years and was still delicious! I think it was because of being 🍊 citrus.

I wonder if I could use my mom's recipe and do this. She went Home to Heaven a few years ago and our family treasures her recipe. The ingredients are: 2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1 2/3 cup sugar 1 1/4 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1 1/4 cups ripe mashed bananas 2/3 cup buttermilk 2/3 cup butter 2 eggs 2/3 cup chopped nuts Could you advise me on this? It would just make it more special if I could do this with Mama's recipe and give it as gifts, especially to family and people who knew her. When I make this Banana Bread my family says they just know there's something "special" in it that I or Mama never told. hahaha There's not; it's just that good. I don't mind anyone copying this recipe. :-)

Lots of great tips! I've seen regular yeast bread baked in the old style all glass jars and wondered about other types of bread! I wonder whether running the bread through a hot water bath after sealing would gain more shelf life? I love your story about the old mixer! I bought one just a couple years newer than your at a yard sale back in the 80s. It lasted about 35 years! I think I got my $3 out of it! 😂 Your husband plays and sings beautifully!

Hi Gerry! I'm so grateful you know about Ceylon Cinnamon. For those who are allergic to the standard Cinnamon sold in the U.S., it's because of many (simple) reasons. When we learned about this from my cousin who was going to culinary school, at the time, we invested in a beautiful Organic Ceylon as a test, and it has been amazing to have (the best tasting!!) it back in our recipes! What a treat and blessing! Thank you for mentioning this lovely Cinnamon! Hopefully, more people try it and abandon what we've grown up with. 🥰💕

Hi Christa, thanks for the great recipe - I did buy pecans, I thought, but when I went to make it, I couldn't find them. I appreciate all the health warnings, and moreover the comments from those before health warnings & use by dates, was even better. At our place I made a dozen, and by the second day they've already eaten more than half, so we'll have no probs with spoilage 😂 they are very moist, even though they're well cooked. There great for snacks. I'll have to hide some or maybe even one, to see if they last past a week - that's pretty difficult in our house😊

I have baked banana bread for years. I used to sell them to medical students and friends when I lived in Mexico. The cakes, breads, and pastries in Mexico are commonly made with lard and many Americans living in Mexico did not like the taste of the lard or the negative health aspects of it. As a result I was baking about 3-5 banana breads a day. I used pecans I bought at the open market and you had to bake them first in the oven before using them in recipes or eating them.

Your videos are fantastic! You have an amazing voice and great annunciation. The pace of your delivery is also perfect. You could make professional instructional videos. I just found your channel this evening and, after watching two of your videos, subscribed immediately. I also like the fact that you end each video with some scripture or gospel based song. Thank you for what you do!

Yum, banana bread is awesome! Never had it baked in a jar. I have a question: in your opening shot how have you illuminated the two lanterns over your right shoulder? Merry Christmas! 🎄🎄🎄
