Noah Hawley, the guy behind the upcoming Alien FX streaming series spoke with the business podcast recently, where he was asked if the show will tie into the prequel films of Prometheus and Alien Covenant. He also talks about the origin of the xenomorph, and if he believes its an ancient creature, or something made recently by David.

I’m a lifelong Alien franchise fan but unfortunately the prequels really rubbed me the wrong way, I didn’t like the complicated additions to the lore when it’s simplicity is what made it so great in the first place. They really mucked things up royally with Covenant.

@@Canoby I would not want anything from Covenant retconned, to be honest. (Not only) my theory was that on the following film David would strive to improve the "morphs" even further. In the last act on the 'forgotten colony' planet in Alien:Covenant, David (already posing as Walter One) observed the ferocious fight between the last Neomorph and the 'newer' first Praetomorph, the latter of whom ultimately prevailed (this scene was unfortunately cut from the final film). David's satisfaction with how the Praetomorph 'experiment' turned out would not last for long, however, as he shortly thereafter witnessed the second Praetomorph's failing to kill Daniels and Tennessee on-board the USCSS Covenant. This would later lead him (on the abandoned sequel) to further tinker with the 'morphs' formula and eventually he would come to a conclusion that he, an android, would have to "merge" with his creations to achieve 'perfection', to create the Xenomorph proper. Hence all the mechanical components integrated into Xenos bodies we all have seen and been familiar with for decades, starting with the 'original' "Big Chap" from the 1979 film. The Praetomorphs from Covenant do not possess yet all those 'machine-like' body parts, if you take a good look at them. Plus, it totally matches with David's personality. He was such a narcissist and it only makes sense that he would think that "his" 'morphs could only reach 'perfection' through him. 🙂

Prometheus was good. Not a big fan of Covenant but at least it introduced Neomorphs - very cool creatures. Shame they didn't show the Neomorph vs Xenomorph (or i that case - Protomorph) fight. Despite that I wouldn't mind to see the 3rd prequel in this series. I just adore the whole franchise

I’m a bit puzzled when people say that David created the Xenomorphs. To me, it seemed that he simply discovered what the Engineers had already created, and was trying to replicate that work. Plus, the fact that the creatures were vulnerable to firepower in an age before pulse rifles shows that these were an imperfect replication. I didn’t hate Prometheus or Covenant, but both kind of left me dissatisfied. Part of that is Ridley Scott constantly changing his mind on things, and cutting things that don’t need to be cut from his films. I hope that the fresh blood being brought to this new series can get people excited for this franchise again.

I'm concerned as well, this franchise wasn't handled very well since "Aliens" came out, after that it didn't move forward that much, which is sad. 20th Century Fox wasn't interested in doing so, don't think Disney is, but as a fan I hope the new stuff will be good nontheless, of course. About the prequels, I do like "Prometheus", this still could work, but they would have to work quite a lot to make this work, so no unneccessary rewrits/cuts just to make it another fucking mystery-box. And the sequel to that, well, that is a fucking abomination, 1 of the best of THE BEST from the worst of THE WORST movies & continuations in general, fucking hate it. If they have to kill the whole prequel-era just to get rid of "Alienated: Inconvenient", then so be it. But I still want a kind of explaination of what happend, the origins. The movies/tv-shows have to give us that, otherwise nothing ever will be realy canon, even though no writer/director seems to realy care about that. Personaly I decided to get back into the old Dark Horse comics, same with "Star Wars", this is more canon, as in a guide-line, how it probably should be.

To me the prequals have never been canon, because you need to do major mental gymnastics to get them to tie in with the rest of the franchise. In fact, to take the prequals as canon you basically have to assume that the other films didn't happen for it to make much logical sense.

THIS makes me happy! For years since those two... Ahem... Attempts by Scott, I've tried to merge these in my head cannon into something acceptable that though I am thoroughly disgusted by, could still be coherent for the fans. Seeing that now this is happening by someone else and with similar ideas helps me be at peace with the Franchise. When dealing with the Engineers, I thought of the not being Pre-Humans but in fact a class of evolved humans made from primitive humans abducted by the Space Jockeys and used as work drones whom were basically grown. These worker drones eventually would rebel against the Space Jockeys, because of their desire to be an actual species and then would steal tech and experiments, and discoveries that the Space Jockeys had made before. Discoveries such as Alien Eggs and experiments with the such creating the stupid and lame magical Black Accelerant Snot, which is derived from the Alien Eggs discovered. And not knowing well of their own origin, the Engineers, not being capable of reproduction, obsessed at the idea and used it to try and spread themselves throughout other planets. I don't expect this to be the idea used now, but it's what I had been cooking up to allow the Engineers and their story. Now, I love the idea of a super computer virus setting advanced human technology in space back. That is clever in the sense of the aesthetics of the human tech from ALIEN and forward. I'm crossing my fingers now for the first time of lack of Faith.

Not a Xenomorph, but a Deacon, yes, which was/is like a prototype. David did not create the species, but he did create his own version, based on what he found & experimented on. The movie did a piss-poor job presenting this to us, because of all the cuts & rewrites, but some details about this are in the books. Personaly I don't care, this movie is a fucking abomination, nothing makes sense, everyone is stupid, it's like a sequel to "Idiocracy". At least "Prometheus" makes sense, the scientists behavior, if you consider the small detail from the script that was cut/rewriten, they were supposed to fail the mission, Weyland was supposed to fail, so his daughter could take over, she handpicked social missfits, people who take unneccessary risks, are kinda incompetent. That detail makes the whole problem go away, but nothing like that is in "Alienated: Inconvenient", everything & everyone is epicly stupid.

The Jockeys made the Xenomorphs millions upon millions of years ago. They made other foul things for a brutal civil war that was all but hinted at in the older lore by Dark Horse Comics and other novel authors If Scott had done things right, the Engineers and several other creation-factions would have revolted and torn the Elder/master race from their lofty perch and then warred among themselves. Sadly we didn't get that. Only a fool thinks the Xenomorph is natural. They were a weapon. A weapon found in the cargo-hold of a certain derelict on LV-426. The Jockeys remains and the remnants of their biomechanical technology are a priority for The Mega-Corporations who will throw trillions away along with lives to acquire samples for their Bio-Weapon Divisions. Somehow the Xenomorph turned on their masters or its control interface was tampered with by saboteurs of the Jockey's sapient creations like the Engineers during said brutal civil war that I spoke of.

I still don't understand how David is portrayed as the engineer of their biologic, especially when there's a crashed derelict, filled up of specimens beneath the ship. Described as a cave by Kane, with a mist to cover over the cargos for preservation, the pilot's corpse described such as fossilized implying thousands of years way before the events of Prometheus, to which contradicts David's involvement.

@@SergeiKraven Just do what I do, I think of the Engineers as the creations of the Jockeys. Aliens the dark descent game portrays Space Jockeys as snake people that are at least 17 to 20 feet. As for David, it's simple, cut out covenant, instead look at this mess this way. Once he and Shaw set off, they found her "god", a remote Jockey world where she and he were silenced forever by the Gods of the Engineers who Humanity once called the Annunaki when we built ziggurats and lived by the Euphrates River in City States under Mesopotamia. Why were they silenced? Because I doubt the inhuman mind of of Jockey would even look at us as worthy children. I've always imagined Jockeys as nigh immortal yetcruel, unimaginably intelligent, psionic creators. Stir some Lovecraft Mountains of Madness into it. Why the HELL would such a far removed being from Humanity that is a false god misunderstood by tribal syone-ahe minded morons as a divine race of heings being entertain some fool's questions about why life is unfair? We're their creations, sure; but I highly doubt we were anything but a means to an end.

I agree David never created the xenomorphs. He created a beta type of xenomorph. The ultramotph. As you can see in Alien: Covenant. The ultramorph was already grown out when it chest bursted. No shedding its skin or anything like that. And when it mature this thing was like a wild animal. Unlike the xenomorph this thing was ferocious, fast, acted on instinct. Nothing like the silent killer from Alien. This definitely was David’s beta version. The main difference I see in the xeno and ultra is that the ultra had a much more slimmer build which allowed it to move fast. While the xeno was a bit bulkier but deadly and silent. It also blended it in with its environment. Due to its biomechanical design. And the ultra didn’t adapt to its environment.

@kevencruz8974
@kevencruz8974 5 ай бұрын
@@SergeiKravenI don’t think he’s saying he created them but rather “perfecting” them. And that lady point of the derelict crashing there millions of years ago before Prometheus is debatable. But it is possible. I say it’s not possible because we don’t know what went down in the last prequel movie we were supposed to get from Scott. But that’s a lazy answer. It is possible because that ship was fossilized along with the space jockey. Also, the alien eggs already being mass produced tells me that they had been there for a while. I think that’s what the blue mist above it was it was protecting and conserving the eggs. That way they don’t exposed themselves to any harsh environments. That’s why people need to stop believing that David created the xenomorphs. Honestly the more I type I realize the prequels barely make any sense. At the end of covenant he takes the covenant ship and is going to origae-6 with the facehuggers he produced. So then what? He creates the eggs and puts the facehuggers inside ok then? How does that still explain the crashed derelict. Are we supposed to believe that the engineers came to David and that’s how that ship crash landed but if it already had the eggs. You get what I’m trying to say? How can both creations exist at the same time????????? Or did the engineers prevailed and took over David’s work? Yeah the prequels really failed at explaining this whole story. Which really didn’t need a whole lot of explaining. Maybe little bits here and there to formulate our own story.
@SergeiKraven

@@kevencruz8974 How can you say it's debatable. When Ridley Scott confirmed the Space Jockey's crashed derelict, was there for thousands of years. He confirmed this in the Alien commentary, go look it up, especially when it's a fozzilized creature, along with its ship. Fozzilation doesn't happen until thousands of years, it's that simple.
@kevencruz8974
@kevencruz8974 5 ай бұрын
@@SergeiKraven I only say it’s debatable. Because I’ve been coming up with my own headcanon over the years since covenant. Yes, I’ve heard Scott’s commentary on the Space Jockey. But considering the prequels have been lacking. Only God knows what’s going on through his mind now. His canon now might not be the same as back then. So I don’t really trust Scott’s word anymore on any explanation whatsoever. So yes while Scott said the derelict fossilized. In his final prequel movie we could’ve seen the derelict crash and it would’ve fossilized leading up to alien. Then again if fossilization happens for thousands of years. Hard to believe that it would fossilize for another 30-40 years leading up to Alien. So if anything there has to be a contradiction somewhere. But I do believe that the derelict crash landed there for thousands of years. This is not taking into account Prometheus or covenant.
@SergeiKraven

@@kevencruz8974 That's why many people considered it a plot hole, how can Prometheus be 30 years before the events of Alien, due to the derelict becoming fozzilized. Many people bring this up, because it's true. There's a reason why those two films didn't meet expectations.
