I work at our local pre-k building that’s part of our school district, and I can assure you it’s a demanding job. We’re constantly observing and interacting with students, providing additional supports to the kids who need them (such as PT, OT, Speech, etc), IEPs, lesson planning, teaching kids social and emotional skills, as well as additional skills they will need for kindergarten, attending professional development trainings, etc. Plus, with all the screenings and such we do, all of our teachers also have to have Special Ed certifications or endorsements. Plus, at least in my building, we have approximately 15 kids per class per session (we have two half day sessions)...all in the span of 2 1/2 hours each. It’s a very demanding job!

I think my new favorite story happened yesterday. We were going potty before nap time and one of my students had been taking awhile (he's a slow pooper) he was finally done and I heard "Miss kyla! My poop won't go down the toilet! " My teachers assistant who is relatively new started to panic as she didn't know what to do. I obviously sprint to grab the plunger and start to try and unclog it. It then starts overflowing and starts to flood the bathroom 😒 which shares a wall with our storage closet🙃 however the best part about it is the kids who are MAD because I was just about to read a story that they love when this happened as they are shouting "miss kyla! What about the book????" Like I'm sorry that there is poop water all over the bathroom 🤣🤣🤣

Something inappropriate: a child proclaimed to his friends during lunch or breakfast “when you get married you kiss each other’s butts!”. Had to stop from laughing. Cute present: for Christmas a parent gave me a Starbucks gift card and a Christmas card. The Christmas card had the daughters handwriting saying “I love you Ms. Sam”. I had gotten it on a particularly tough day and was drained by the end of it. When I opened it, everything was better and my heart felt happy. I clean at least one poopy diaper a day. I also get spit up on at least weekly.

@@jaileneramos8411 This can't happen if you teach toddlers. That's before or right when they start potty training. Potty training is a joint effort home-school for preschoolers. It comes with the job, I don't mind changing dipers every day, as long as I see the parents putting in an effort for their child to learn how to use the toilet. Getting successfully potty trained is actually one of the moments I feel the most proud about my students.

I was 17 and volunteering when the class biter bit me hard enough to draw blood just before the parents walked in. I had to shove my bloody arm up the back of my shirt because the policy was to tell the parents/guardian that a bite occurred but not the other persons name. I had to get a slip signed by my mom and the teacher whose class I was volunteering for and bring it back the next time I came. It was really funny

I made a switch from video editing in TV to being a preschool teacher, and I'll say that there's craziness, in both but the crazy from dealing with children and their parents is different, but the effect you have on the children makes things worth it. Also you get used to poop, pee, vomit, snot and projectile bodily fluids really quick. Just a day in a life of a preschool educator!
