The Present Perfect can be divided into 2 main functions: 1. Finished Actions and 2. Unfinished actions. The grammar is different for each function. With unfinished actions, we add: FOR / SINCE / HOW LONG? But with finished actions in the past, we cannot use these words.

sir.... i have been to new york...this is right(life experience) i have been to new york last year so i know to much about it(here is the past event of going but because of this going event in the past it has present effect "i know much about it"......and grammer says that if the past events relevent to the present or it has effect on present the you should use present perfect......'i know to much about new york' this depends on my visiting to new york eventhough the time frame is mention......grammer says" simple past tense has no connnection with present time frame". or sometimes past events relevent to the present( past event discribes the present effect sometimes) if i say i went to new york last year so i know to much about it.....then past event effect the present time 'so i know much about it' don't you thing it's violence of rules please guide me.....
