Thank you so much yr Highness! You are Khmer living treasure. Withou you we don't know where our culture esp. the royal court dance is up to. You're working tiredlessly to preserve our precious dance which is threatened by the modern kind of so-called art like karaoke and the Western culture. Long Live the Princess and God bless you.

Her Majesty Norodom Bopha Devi had been working so hard to preserve and protect thousand years old of Khmer Dance after several times Cambodia been ruined by Neighboring countries and Khmer rouge. Culture is what make each country different, without her majesty Norodom Bopha devi and her mother , Cambodian Royal ballet would probably be lost to somewhere else. Norodom Sihanouk: protected Cambodia Land Norodom Bophadevi: protected Cambodian traditional dance and khmer art

I like how she tended to insert words in English even though I would imagine she would have known that there would have been subtitles. She did a good job though.

Why didn't you mention the adoption of Siamese culture during the period when the Cambodian royal court was under Siamese rule for hundreds of years before the French arrived? Didn't you also mention that the Siamese royal court sent ancient dance teachers to revive it?

I adored Bopha Devi,but her father and brothers complicate things.They really made things difficult.I shall judge each of them individually...........
As Thai, I feel defensive. Our central dance culture are not similar to Old Khmer dance. The differences are obviously.

It's History Channel, they put out programs about ancient aliens... I wouldn't take anything they present seriously. Plus there been interviews with Princess Buppha Devi where she acknowledged Thai influences on Cambodia's Royal Ballet that this program edited out.

Don't take offense. The English translation isn't the best and Khmer and Thai both know the styles are different. No one knows what the dances were like 600 years ago whether it's Khmer or Thai, but anyone who has seen dances from both countries now know they are different and unique in their own way. No one is in the shadow of the other.

The 'apsara dance' of today was created under the guidance of Queen Kossamak Nearireath. Its costume is based on the bas-relief of apsaras on temple ruins but much of it, including its music and gesture is not unique from other classical Khmer dances which probably do not date back to the Angkor period.

Lol, there writen historical records that these dances existed since 16th centuary A.D. So if that the case why cant it existed since the time of Nagkor Vat Empire?
@sohkathatch40815 жыл бұрын

Khmer inscriptions. Cambodia was the first civilized country in Southeast Asia. The country has gone through 16 great eras, both glorious and painful, almost disappearing from the world map. This nation has left its legacy in some countries such as temples, culture, clothing, traditions, especially the famous literature taken from Cambodian inscriptions. Cambodia is one of the few countries in the world that can boast the largest number of ancient inscriptions of 1,000. Cambodia is also one of the few countries in the world that can boast of inscriptions in many languages up to three languages: Khmer, Sanskrit and Pali. Cambodians began writing inscriptions from the third century AD until today. The first Cambodian inscription is the Vo Canh inscription, dating to the third century AD. Cambodian inscriptions exist in Cambodia, South Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, which were formerly Khmer territories before they arrived in Southeast Asia or invaded Cambodian territory. Cambodian inscriptions are poems written about deities, kings, priests, dignitaries, offerings, places, curses, and constructions of Cambodian leaders. Cambodian inscriptions provide important information for scholars to understand the Cambodian people, the history of Cambodia, which makes them believe that they can not lie. Cambodians talk about history by quoting inscriptions that, unlike some other ethnic groups, have no evidence of their documents, only listen to each other's lies and say that Cambodians copy from them, in fact they copy from Cambodia. What do you think of Cambodians?
