In regards to reusing lids, I always reuse the jars and lids from jelly, beets, spaghetti sauce, anything that has that little inner rubber seal for my water bath canning. So far it has worked for me also!

I’m always amazed at how easy you make it! I found an app that saves you greatly on produce, pantry, meats, dairy……I was just looking at what was available today low and behold they have three pretty good size boxes of oranges, missed varieties, but about 25 ish for 3.00! I’m was thinking what the heck can I so with these (my old hands can’t squeeze anymore). Check one of my favorite channels and behold there you are canning oranges! I’m off to get two boxes of oranges. Thank you!

Awesome!!!! I'm gonna can a couple dozen quarts of oranges. I want to stock my pantry. It's gonna be a long cold dark Winter. Gotta have vitamin C and sweets available. Remember to stock up your pantries. If your pantry looks full? Add just a bit more. You'll want extra to barter or help others less fortunate. Take care and thank you for the video.

Just being cautious 😬 Not much canning this year. I have stocked up on a lot of dry goods, and canned goods from Azure Standard, and the grocery store. I also placed several orders with an awesome Amish bulk food store near by. Doing what I can this year. Thank You for the wonderful content you put on your channel ❤️ Blessings from Green, Ohio ❤️🌱

Thanks for showing the process. btw we don't even have these 2 parts lids where I live in europe, so you're safe :p To be extra safe you'd go for a full glass jar and a sterile disposable rubber ring, but it's totally possible to reuse plain old jam jars as long as the lid doesn't rust and does have a sealing joint as you show.

I'm so glad I found your channel! I was really looking forward to giving canning oranges a try, and when I finally started the process this morning I quickly realized I should have done my homework about the oranges. After a little research, I have found that navels are best for canning, and at this point (July), I will need to wait until November for them to be in season again. I purchased mine at a large bulk store (the C one), but when I started peeling them this morning it was evident they were all wrong. They didn't peel well, when I tried to separate the sections they kept ripping, and the taste was not good at all; I chalked it up to a still new canner learning experience 😊 I will not be deterred, however, and plan to give this a try again in November.

We need to look for local orange orchard farmers! They need the business and we need the oranges. I live in California, you in Florida, so there's no reason for them to be overcharging us in the 2 citrus capitals of America! 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊😠
@voodookitchenmama
@voodookitchenmama 3 жыл бұрын
@@cookiemama4 I agree! I worked in the citrus business for years and this is totally outrageous. However, Florida has destroyed thousands of groves, due to "greening" and other issues, to say nothing of the building and paving over of our rural lands that once supported orange groves. We have several local small groves here that offer "u pick it".
@cookiemama4
@cookiemama4 3 жыл бұрын
@@voodookitchenmama I will have to look up the you- pick-it places for oranges. There are more people, thus we need all the food we can grow! We used to grow enough food to feed the world, but those who are re- wilding our lands are causing starvation.. I'm going to can all the oranges I have jars for, which is only about 4 cases of quart, and some pint jars. I'm saving my other jars mostly for potatoes and meat.. Hard times are coming... PS: California has also destroyed a lot of orange groves! I think I'll plant an orange tree.. :)

I think the trouble with using the Classico lids is that it may hold the rubber seal in place even if it didn't expell all the air when canning. This may allow bacteria to be present that you don't smell or see. As my Vet once told me when he saw me give my huge dog a turkey bone, it works well until the one time it doesn't and then the dog may die. I never did it after that. I reuse my lids but only for dehydrated foods which I seal taking the air out with a air pump. That way I don't feel like I'm wasting money. Good luck and even though we have an orange tree, I never thought to can them. Have you ever canned the juice? Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much! You have no idea how many doors you have just opened up for me! I will never have to worry about not having enough canning jars and lids again as long a Classico is around..I will be buying several of them starting Sunday at $1.50 a jar at Shoprite. I have always been a *meat* canner mostly because I have 3-sons, a hubby and my disabled brother including myself to feed..MEAT is priority in this house...now that I watched you can oranges I can’t wait to try this even though I keep several store bought cans of fruit on my shelves, oranges are not part of my food stock, mandarin oranges but not plain oranges..another thought is you always have orange juice in a jar so to speak which is freaking awesome! Hugs! And thank you again so much! ....P.S. I belong to a group on Facebook called rebel canners maybe you would be interested in joining ?

cookiemama4 - personally I didn’t care for it just because I have known it to break up many marriages.. I looked at it as pure evil! My Aunt who lives in Montana begged me to sign back up (I guess is what you would call it ) so I could see pictures of my family and that’s when Facebook began for me .. only about a year ago now.. people piss me off so bad I have unsubscribed to many off them.. I now just subscribe to canning , frugal and homesteading sites only.. I’m so thankful for those forums! I have many years of frugality behind my belt , pressure canning over 8-years.. homesteading for 12-yrs..hope to see you on the Rebel Canning forum 🤗

@@Fritz0616 That's why I quit Facebook to begin with. It just feeds my personal "file", via AI. It's scary when AI makes the decisions about us on the Internet. If I was in China right now, I would probably be in jail! It's coming to the US, sadly. I think I'll try Facebook again just for the canning sites. Bless your heart, you've been canning for 8 years? I'm a newbie! My canning started with the lockdown. But I did can several batches of chicken and hamburger several years ago. I wish I had your experience, but the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step! 🌻

I’ve been dehydrating orange slices for my son who uses them in cocktails...I wonder, is there any reason I couldn’t water bath can slices with the rind still on?

Hi Jenni, how many oranges did it take for those 12 jars? I think I will be doing some while I have the grands next week and we do school. Thank you.

We ate some and juiced a few, but I think about 30 oranges.... about 2-2.5 oranges per 24 oz jar.
