The University of Nevada, Reno offers a Paiute language course dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the Great Basin indigenous language of Numu. The goal of the program is to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in the Paiute language, as well as to develop a deeper understanding of Numu cultural contexts.
Students in the course will study the basic linguistic structures of Northern Paiute, learn about the local Northern Paiute culture and its connection to the language, including connections to place and the Great Basin, comprehend spoken language in Northern Paiute and develop the ability to respond appropriately, read short traditional narratives, and more.

I was born on the Duck Valley reservation, spoke Paiute all the time. Was adopted at 11 years old, never spoke it again, now all these years later, trying to remember and learn it again. My children want to learn the language. Thanks for all your good work. We are still here!

I had no idea UNR had Paiute language studies. I wish I were a student so I could come learn my peoples language
