I was casting shows for MGM Tv and his agent, Lew Sherrell, insisted I meet the funny guy. I did and we talked little of what roles he might be right for on Chips and another crap show I was doing, but talked of a 41 Mercury I had in my garage, he wanted to see it. We were going to meet up. A short time later I called Lew about his availability and was told, "I told u he was going to be hot, he's on hold for the Johnny Carson. The rest history, a great, down to earth guy...more power to him.
