What a special day for them! I lived in Hawaii for a few years in a ward with many military members. Members were leaving on deployment or transfers all the time and we would sing this song to them in sacrament meeting while they stood up front. It made me cry every time even if I didn't know them well. I just love that song and I love our Prophet, President Nelson!

Aloha... Watching the prophet is always very heart touching, even with the tears. For the members and visitors around the world traveling great distances just to get to see our prophet along with Sister Nelson, Elder Holland with Sister Holland, is what they've dedicated their time, talents and resources to make that journey. Well done, true and faithful servants. May Adonai bless and keep these dear ones that they can make that journey again. He loves all of us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Please explain how Mormon temples remotely resemble Old Testament temples. In addition, please reference where Jesus said temples are needed after His resurrection. He said our bodies are now a temple and physical temples are no longer needed.

Hi Robin, Temples or types of a temple have existed since the very beginning of man on this earth. The early Prophets erected alters to worship God, which was a type of temple. Later Moses was told to build the Tabernacle of the congregation, which included the ark of the covenant. This was a type of portable temple, which also included a brazen sea, which served as a baptismal font. Later Solomon was instructed to build a temple, which was still used by Christ's apostles, even after he was crucified and rose again. I know of no verse in the Bible that declares that temples were obsolete because Christ died was buried and rose again the third day. In fact the temple was in use by apostles Peter and John, at the time they saw the lame man and healed him. It says that after the lame man was healed all three of them went into the temple, and the lame man was leaping and praising God. Also in the end of The Book of Luke, after Jesus was crucified and rose again, it talks about the apostles worshiping in the temple. "And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen." -Luke 24:53 "Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour... And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God." Acts 3:1-8 This shows that the temple was still in use by Holy apostles even after the resurrection of Christ. As far as why we do ordinances in the temple still, Paul clarified this Doctrine when he taught to the Saints in Corinth about how it's important to perform baptisms for deceased ancestors. "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" -1Corinthians 15:29 As far as why don't temples look like Solomon's Temple, that's a good question. I'm not sure a doctrinal reason for that, but I do know that temples, or Temple types resembled several different things in the Old Testament. My best opinion is that, since the temple is built primarily for the use of ordinances and Covenants with God, it's not as important exactly what it might look like in comparison with Solomon's Temple, as it is something that might help us and our ancestors draw closer to God, and Jesus Christ. In other words I believe it is designed for practical use in our day, which isn't the same as during Old and New Testament times. Oh by the way, just because in Scripture it says that God dwelleth not in temples made of hands, but in the souls of men or something like that, certainly doesn't mean that he can't visit his temples made by the hands of men. And I would add that he dwelleth in the hearts of those who serve in the temple to try to bless mankind in his name. If you want to learn more about holy temples, or anything to help you and others draw closer to God and Jesus Christ, go to churchofjesuschrist.org for more wonderful info. Also download the free Gospel Library app authored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which includes many great resources also. God bless you in your life!
