I THINK in my OPINION that it's just in case they need to take off again (in case of a threat to the president) because once the wheel is on the ground it'll need to turn around to get back into the air.

+chap6595 Pilots do that a lot. The longer they use reverse thrust, the less they use their breaks/ reducing maintenance costs. They probably instinctively throw it into reverse thrust right after they touch down.

just went to the boeing factory yesterday and say the 787 in evertte. it was really cool and i saw that united airlines plane and i was special and say the dreamlifer had came in to unload some parts.

Boeing is the only aircraft manufacturer currently in consideration for an upgrade. There is an order for 3 new planes to come into service beginning 2017.

The A350 is a different type of airplane, it's basically a Dreamliner copy but made larger. The 777x will be more efficient.

As often as the President gets on the plane. It is a call sign. There are 2 SAM aircraft, but there are other aircrafts that the president use that would be considered Air Force One when he is on it.

I think it's great how the Presidents pilot does what the US Air Force fighter pilots do to slow down, leaving the nose up off the ground until there is no longer any lift which slows the aircraft down almost as well as having a chute!.

@NecrosisTime With respect, it's not meant to beat either. They are in three different categories. The A380 was designed to challenge the 747's supremacy - if you ask me, it won't succeed -, and the A320 family is meant to compete with the 737 range.

Air force one is just the call sign to indicate the president is onboard, the 747 that is typically called Air force one is one the president usually uses If the president was to be flying in something like a cessna 172 that would also be given the call sign Air Force one

the 787 is going to be "challenged" by the a350 in sometime after 2015. we already know that the a350 cannot actually compete though. it is not as light or as efficient. the a350 is only composite in the skin. the 787 has internal composite structure and is 50% composite by weight, which translates into close to 80% by volume. the 787 weighs less than the 767, it is larger than the 767 by a considerable margin, uses less fuel than the 767 and is replacing the 767 in a passenger capacity

787 is a nice Y-2 product but suffer 3 year delay, Airlines, HATE DELAY. Hopefully Y-1 (replace 737MAX) and Y-3 (BWB or some thing bigger than 747, will replace 747) can arrive ON TIME.

Seeing as they built the damn plane, I'm pretty sure they know that, but most people don't refer to the plane as the VC-25A, they refer to it as Air Force One, and so saying that the president touched down on his VC-25A would be more confusing for most folks.

Get it right , the Airplane is Air Force one when he is aboard, they do not call his Chopper Air Force one when he is aboard it do they? nope, it is Marine one . however, When the presidential aircraft flies without the chief executive on board, the aircraft's official radio call sign designation is SAM (Special Air Mission) and the aircraft's tail number. i.e. - SAM 28000 . . . .Executive One is the call sign designated for any United States " CIVIL "aircraft when the President of the United States is on board

When President Bush flew in the co-pilot's seat aboard a Sea Control Squadron Thirty-Five (VS-35) S-3B Viking that plane's call sign was designated "NAVY ONE" also it has never happened yet, but if the President were ever aboard a United States Coast Guard plane that plane would have a different call sign something like Coast Guard One so it does matter which branch of Military is carrying the President , Air Force planes = Air Force one , Marines = Marine One , Navy =Navy One Coast Guard though it has never happened would be Coast Guard one and a civilian plane would be Executive one .
