Congratulations. a common response to the Obama election amongst Amercians seems to be relief that they don't have to feel so embarrassed about being American any more.

YeeHaaw. Like you I voted for him because I thought he was the most qualified and my position was solidified with the selection of Palin (intellectually uncurious = idiot). The bonus of Obama is the symbolism of race, and the taking of that off the table. Obama may be less of progressive president than I may want, but I do think hell pave the way for a more socially just nation, as that goal has been hampered by the resentment of racial equality since the 1960s.
