These two had a probably the best working relationship and friendship of any President and Vice President. Reagan insisted they have lunch together once a week to go over issues in the event Bush needed to assume responsibilities. Reagan wanted Bush in the loop at all times and said when he was elected they would have a true partnership and a true friendship. We've had nothing like this since.

I'm sure Bush was one of the ultimate insiders but when Iran Contra blew up then he said he had been conveniently "out of the loop" regarding that whole shitstorm. I'm sure he knew what the hell was going on, just had to lie about that shit to get elected in '88.

BULL! In reality, Reagan didn't like Bush. He thought of him as an opportunist and what we would call today a 'member of the swamp.' In all Reagan's 8 years in the White House, they never had the Bushes over ONCE for dinner. Outside of a state dinner of course where protocol dictated the vice president had to be there.

@@nilsonjunior9551 Oh wow you REALLY don't know the way it works, do you? Reagan was fully backed by the party when he ran in '80. Specifically, some VERY wealthy people in the party. Therefore, Reagan had to take orders. In fact, even when Reagan ran for governor of California Nancy insisted of party heavies that they support them in the lifestyle they were accustomed to as Hollywood stars. Bush had wanted to be president and he was very wealthy in his own right and knew some of these wealthy men. Reagan was TOLD to make Bush his running mate. And yes, they had lunch once a week. To discuss BUSINESS. It was never a social occasion.
