The generation of men that fought in the World War are special. Sad and an irony that one of the greatest calamities of the human race, also created some of the greatest men who understood sacrifice, bravery, valour, faith, love and hope.

Absolutely a beautiful service. Thank you Jon Meacham for your wonderful eulogy and all the other eulogies given by friends and family. So moving and uplifting. RIP. Mr. President HW Bush. You will be missed. Condolences to the Bush family and friends. Mr President I know you are in heaven with your beautiful wife and daughter and all your family and friends who passed before you .

@pattybarry Thank you for that eloquent, accurate, and inspiring summary; maybe it's my own faults at root, so I won't project them on you. What I feel most important is that I could not narrow down what you said from a partisan, tribal, etc perspective... It was, quite simply, what I feel this country has unable to get back to: objective truths about subjective subjects. Sorry, this is all my personal stuff, and you've no social obligation to respond, and indeed, you can delete this without any fear of retribution. OR thank you, for making me feel like a better American, or to grasp, however fleeting, what it would be like to live in a better America.

Perfection. From John Meacham, I wouldn't expect anything less. Especially for President Bush, I suppose. But absolute perfection! I'd leave it there but I feel I'd be remiss if I didn't at all mention my Grandfather who died in Okinawa in 1945. A man I've missed, without ever knowing him. Seeing and meeting a few of those most gallant men from the "greatest generation" , of which they're both a part of, I'm able to say with full certainty that he, my grandfather, has been very well represented by his generation and his brothers who survived. I've never met one WWII vet that I was disappointed in knowing and would be honored to have known better. George Bush Sr. was a fine example indeed! I'm only glad to be aware of his life and times and how he lived a long fruitful life even if my grandfather could not, the ones who survived served a fantastic example of living with heart, honor and dignity, sometimes as a result of being the survivors who felt a true sense of owing the ones who did not survive. What fine examples they have made to us all on how we should live!

Thank you for that story, @rexhrothgar. I don't know who you are, what your politics are... I just know two things A) Rex Hrothgar is a great handle B) That story (I assume) was cathartic for you and, indeed, I hope a burden was lifted, or you wrote it with joy. Most of all, though, I think that story makes me feel like a better person, citizen, and non-ironic American... It was your story, but the best of it was, in part, my joy. Feel free to delete; you've no social obligation to respond, and since I'm ineloquent, I might well have caused it to put it on an unfortunate tangent.
@A.T.148-Scot-HK6 жыл бұрын
That was very eloquently written. I'm not American, but I have great respect for the America of those years, and I genuinely believe America was at its prime during that period of history - heroic, humble, noble and always fought for the freedom of the world.

i will truly always remember George Herbert Walker Bush as a good decent man that did the right thing for the right reasons, he balanced his heart with his wisdom, and did his best for all, not just the few, he loved america, that love was unconditional his hands were always ready to get the job done. knowing the way he lived I am sure he went full throttle to be by his Bar's side again. A life lived and shared with Love and kindness for his fellow man.
This guy is my favorite historian his book Soul of America was a great read.

I wondered that myself, trying to compare his life against HW. But trump got a lesson today in humanity, kind to each other, something we were taught in pre-school. I'm certain his parents never taught him that. What an uncomfortable moment between the former presidents when the trumps sat down.
