Irene Mark. You're right. God does not "exit" this world. He remains close to those who call upon His help and guidance. And in Scripture He provides us with some very useful advice. Isaiah chapter 3: verses 1-26 is frequently summarised by the old saying "When the power of Satan is at its height your leaders shall have the minds of children and women shall control them".

No. The Oath itself is spelled out in Article II, Section 1, Clause 8 of the US Constitution, "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Most presidents add "So help me God" on their own.

+Calum Orr Chief Justice Roberts is living proof that federal judges do not read the Constitution of the United States. The text of the oath is set forth in Article II of the Constitution. You would think, with the hundreds of thousands of dollars we taxpayers spend on salary and other perquisites for the office of Chief Justice, the lazy oaf could have gotten one of his underlings to print it out on a card for him, or perhaps, for all that money, he could have looked it up himself, but no, instead, he bungles it. Perhaps it was his subconscious dislike of having to swear in a black boy to the office. Roberts was appointed to the Court by George W. Bush, who, with shaking hand, and gaze of a moron, took the oath of office.

@ActiveAtlantic Obama did not screw up, Chief Justice Roberts left out "Faithfully" so when Obama came to that word he paused, so Chief Justice Roberts could correct himself. Because the Oath is one of the most important speeches in all his presidency. After he finishes his sentence, he becomes a senator to the President of the United States of America. He didn't mess up, he wanted it to be successful and honorarily, like a real president.

Oops, I have to correct myself. I just heard a more complete audio of FDR's 1933 swearing in. In actuality, he was indeed prompted -- but the Chief Justice read the entire oath without pausing, and then FDR repeated the entire oath. Hey, 39 words -- it ain't exactly rocket science.

@JDUB73EB Those presidents who almost spoke too soon, the thing is if you'll notice, it varies from one inauguration to another how many of the words the chief justice says at a time before each pause. If you look at the '05 swearing in for Bush's 2nd term, Chief Justice Rehnquist could barely speak as he was talking through a trach tube and so his was the most broken up of any of them--only a few words at a time

Tell me only a certian few did not use a middle name when being sworn in to God . Tell me which ones and why ? Who could not repeat without a stutter ? Prehaps a lapse in memory ? Maybe vene in focus perhaps ?

+Freedom of Speech The constitution doesn't specify anything about the use a middle name. LBJ didn't use his name at all. The constitution just says "I do solemnly swear..." In the case with Obama, Chief Justice Roberts messed up and they redid it the next day.

+Freedom of Speech President Obama couldn't repeat without a stutter because Chief Justice Roberts didn't stop when he expected him to, and even Roberts himself stumbled a few times. I fail to understand the confusion. I probably would've stopped too in that position. +Ihdc1 George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and _many_ others didn't even _have_ middle names. The Constitution _better not_ say anything about a middle name!

+Anastas1786 The bungling of Obama's oath is strictly the fault of the Chief Justice. The text of the oath is set forth in the Constitution, and there is no excuse for the Chief Justice not having it printed on a card.
