Hearing from my HD598 headphones: The Presonus sounds like the "ROCK" preset, with the V shape eq. It sounds wider/vaster/thinner in mid. Sounds more grungy and sharper. The Audioengine sounds like the "POP/LIVE" preset, with the Λ shape eq. It sounds closer/more compacted/fuller in mid. Sounds softer and smoother.

Exactly... i was really about ordering presonus, but now need to investigate further comparisons Edit: I bought presonus e3.5.. Edit 2, after a month of active using: they DO sound V shaped, but lows and highs are very fast and good, its just that middle V shape can be very annoying sometimes, you can feel somehow exhausted after some time listening to music, its like you need to fight through focusing on mids to hear them or to feel them stronger...

As You may know I like A2+ for its natural and detailed sound packed in very compact and stylish enclosure, but You probably also know that it is rather expensive product. Today we check if Presonus E3.5 can be an alternative to A2+ for just 99dollars. Build quality and looks is where Audioengine has clear advantage over Presonus. It is not to say that Presonus is not build well, but it is still far behind A2+ in that respect. E3.5 is also a bit bigger which has its implications to sound quality. Bigger size of box and of woofer means that Presonus has better bass response, more visceral and punchy than lean and slightly boomy bass of A2+, and this is where Presonus shows its strength. Besides the bass A2+ is a better sounding speaker than E3.5 though, especially in the midranges which sound fuller, more natural and detailed, so if You are into acoustic or vocal music than A2+ is better choice for You. If on the other hand listen to more modern music styles that use lots of synthesized sounds in it than E3.5 is as good if not better choice at much lower price. What do you think? Which speaker sounds better in Your opinion? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!

I cannot agree about voice here. On the song Long Drive the A2+ sounds more muffled or like it has a slight veil in front of it compared to the E3.5. The 3.5 sounds more crips and clear while still having the better bass as you mentioned.

Is the A2+ good for music production or is the Eris 3.5/4.5 much better for that?
@camelCased5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 3.5 sound more detailed in highs and high mids but A+ better at mids ... but maybe that's because 3.5 tweeter is too aggressive? What if the treble adjustment is turned down a bit to tame the highs, would then 3.5 reveal the mid details better?

I'm living in Japan right now, and the room in Japan is not soundproof to the ceiling at all, i can hear the people upstair talking, doing things and they do hear me too. I stop using the headphone beacause my ear have promblem and getting bored of putting something on my head. So i decided to build my own BEST MINIMUM VOLUME sound system for the PC. I'm using the Focusite as an Audio Interface, a FXauidio pre amp to get clearer sound and some EQ plugin to reduce the punching in the bass. I have a pair of nice low end speaker already, i need 1 more pair of "natural and detailed" mid range more. It seems like the A2+ better with the mid but it is not suitable for hearing music at low volume, it tends to scream loudly. i'm okay with the mid, the bass of the E3.5, but i know it is not the best option i can get. Money and size of my desk is not the matters to worry about. So what should i buy ? the E3.5 or the A2+ ?? can you guys help me please. Thank you.

I'd love to get bigger speakers, but A2+ are the only ones that can fit my desk. Since I have 3 monitors side by side, there is no room for speakers. A2+ are the only ones that will fit under my Ultrawide center display. Yeah, it sucks to pay a $150 premium to get slightly smaller speakers, but what can you do. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. The only other solution would be to put speakers on stands and have them above the displays, but that seems like such a hassel for general purpose use.

Can't agree. Try closing your eyes and listen through headphones, one sounded like the sound is enclosed in a box and can't breath, it's not clear and sounded boxy. I don't have any studio speakers to listen to this video. Doesn't this distort my perception of how these speakers sound? Please correct me if my reasoning is wrong: when listening to this through ordinary home use speakers, i.e. speakers that emphasise the highs and lows, the highs and lows of the A2+ (which is not meant to sound flat) will be exaggerated. The E3.5, on the other hand, has a flat sound by design so that it will sound "normal" through my home speakers. So, my point is: while neither of the speakers will sound on my speakers as they do IRL, I will not notice the distortion on the E3.5 while the A2+ will just not sound great. At least that is how I'm trying to understand what I hear.
@seppoinnanen55773 жыл бұрын
You have a point. Listening speaker sounds from the other speakers is not an ideal situation. I think that a bit better results will be achieved with good quality headphones. Still, it's quite subjective there, too. You must have noticed that the same speakers sound a bit different in the next comparison, too. These tests only give a direction, what to expect in the real life about the true sound. Luckily, the ears are usually quite adaptable to get used to the small imperfections
@keithgardner58184 жыл бұрын
I've had my A2's for years, and still am hard pressed to find anything that I like as well. From this comparison I'm pretty sure I couldn't listen to the Presonus for very long. While the A2's don't handle the bass as well, the E3.5's seem to be missing a whole midrange octave, and the highs are just too forward for me. These things are all personal preferences and they probably have to do with a person's hearing profile as well... my ears definitely have their issues! But for near field listening, I have yet to hear anything I like better than the A2's.

The A2+ sound like a $50 pair of PC monitor speakers. Hollow midrange and a bass that's only perceived as tight because it's virtually non existent under 200Hz, going by this demo. In fact it's embarrassing just how convincingly the A2's had their own bollocks presented to them on a plate deep-fried by the Presonus Eris 3.5's, especially considering the 2.5x price difference (which really only buys you the benefit of a built-in DAC). And yet, a lot of people here including the channel owner prefer the A2's. Just goes to show how personal taste always comes into the equation. PS I'm also listening on HD650's...

I had both on my desk and returned them to the shop. A2 is muddy with recessed mids. Presonus midrange is not coherent. Midrange is over bright, unnatural, makes ear fatigue. Bass is boomy, uncontrolled in some frequencies. I would say I am wrong until I put iLoud Micro monitor on my desk. Coherent, pleasure to listen midrange with great bass. 3.5 sounds better imo, bigger sub is just better, sounds like its not struggling with the bass. 2+ sounds rumbly, does have more mids though. Do the Audioengines have inbuilt EQ settings? With the way these connect for 3.5 I would need to get bluetooth version and get a BT adaptor for my pc (it doesnt have one lol) either that or get audio interface and balanced cables which makes it more expensive than the 2+. but then if i wanted to upgrade later i would need to buy an interface anyway... which just makes me want to go for a 5 inch and not bother with a cheaper set to begin with.

I tested both and kept the A2+ because of its more natural sound. I found the presonus to be to sharp in treble and to unprecise in the bass. Plus the A2+ are much more compact and stylish. Remember that speakers can be used for many years if you treat them right.

They both sound bad, though the A2+ sounds a bit fuller. The Eris sounds dry and bassy, as usual. All monitors from the Eris series kill mids a lot, that's why they're not the best buy for any price range. You're paying for brand if you buy them. Btw, what do you think about a comparison between these monitors and the Edifier R1800T III? They're in a similar price range and tbh I think the Edifier would come on top. And yeah, the A2+ is overpriced, you're paying a premium for portability and small size. So if you're planning on buying speakers/monitors for your desktop, better skip these. For 250 bucks, you might as well buy a bigger desk than get an overpriced mini-monitor to fit a small desk. If you need portability, buy a pair of good headphones.

Presonus E 3.5 already sounds boxy, but Audioengine - new level of "boxyness". At least it sounds like it on KZbin. Audioengine mids sound harsh. The lows also better on Presonus.
