Hi everyone. I am writing this review on the Presonus Eris 3.5. I bought a pair a while ago. I feel it is important to address my experience and also how it relates to this video. In this video the Eris 3.5 sounds 'harsh' etc. When I listen to this video versus playing the original song on the video through my Eris 3.5, it does not sound the same. My EQ at the back is standard 12 oh clock. But before making any judgments, the following happened: I bought a pair through Takealot. When I received it, it did sound a bit harsh. However, after some time playing with the system, one speaker started giving problems. It went soft, loud, soft, loud and eventually had 'hiss' noise. The speakers also sounded that it lacked some low-end depth, but that was expected as it only has a 3.5 driver. I then send the speakers back. Takealot sends me a brand new pair. I now have it just over a month and it sounds great. But this is the weird thing - my new pair (1) Does not sound harsh, (2) Has a LOT more depth and low end, (3) is just amazing and (4) have not given me any problems. I would still want to invest in a budget second-hand sub. So... for those who do not have money for studio speakers, I personally would recommend 3.5 if you want to start out on basic sound over video editing and producing songs. You will not be wasting your money. It will be an investment and you can, later on, invest in a better system. So in general, don't feel bad if you can't afford something better. It does not devalue you as a person or your music. Tip: they are NEAR FIELD MONITORS. So don't buy them if you going to watch movies etc. You are meant to sit closer to them within the correct field. Words in movies will sound muffled if you sit far from these speakers. Rather buy a normal theater system. But if you are into accuracy and critical listening, yes get them. But it is important that you consider your room layout, acoustics, speakers placement and tweaking the EQ as needed. Trust me, you will not lack low end, except under 80Hz. If you can save up for a bigger pair, buy a bigger pair. If not, buy a smaller pair, it is okay. But be proud of it and learn to mix on it and practicing your judgment and ears. Presonus does say they were designed for mixing. In conclusion, they are not harsh, the sound is strong, the built quality is good, they do not lack bass, but they do lack under 80 Hz, which can be a workaround if you can get a second-hand cheap sub (studio powered sub with a build-in crossover). Lekka ouens - geniet dit. Let me know if you have any questions. Update: if your Eris 3.5 sounds harsh and as if it lacks a lot of low-end, I recommend to do a replacement, as it may be a faulty amp/driver. That is my personal opinion, I may be wrong.

I have both the 3.5 and 4.5. What youtube videos don't show you is that the 4.5s have a noticeable hiss. While this is pretty normal for monitors, the 3.5s don't suffer from that, which makes them much better to use at low volumes. I upgraded to the 4.5s but ended up swapping back to the 3.5s after a while because it was doing my head in. At normal volume the 4.5s are very very slightly clearer and have a tiny tiny bit more bass but honestly, in the real world the difference is barely perceptible. Its not worth paying twice the price for them imo. The 3.5s are the best value monitors out there. They don't go that low but they are surprisingly accurate.

Big difference in sound, but I don't know, I'd still pick the 3.5 because it has far better clarity for treble, and a sub might fix its bass issues.
@MaxLohMusic5 жыл бұрын
I've been listening to a lot of comparison videos on this channel and I can say that the 4.5 is actually worse than the 3.5. Presonus fucked something up on the 4.5 because it always stands out as extremely different and colored from all the other speakers no matter what you're comparing it to. In fact e5 sounds closer to 3.5 then 4.5. e5 and e3.5 also both sound similar to Edifier and other leading brands. The 4.5 sounds like some cat accidentally messed with your EQ.

I have the E3.5's. I prefer them and find they are better balanced and their bass limitations are actually an advantage. The trouble with small monitors is they try to cover too much range rather than concentrate on the mids/trebles which is where most of the listening frequencies occur. Ι have the 4.5 for about 1,5 years. I am over pleased by them. For home , music, movies and music creating (electronic) .All of them went to another level for us home. I fully recomment the 3.5s to a friend lately, for the less money ofcourse, but with great quality of sound. And no problems i must say. A little sound that you can hear from the monitors, is only when they are on and don't play and only if you are very close to them. It's nothing, it doesn't exist when they play, even at their lower volume . I have them permanent at the 1/3 of the volume and use only the pc's volume (which goes until the half, then problem with bad neighbors ), SO LOUD they can play and clear sound. I also enjoy A LOT to watch movies at loud volume, not annoying for ears (i mean for home, not in the cinema).Fully recommented as i said earlier.

Thanks for all comparaisons really usefull. I'm struggling since Presonus has asked my (all?) Eris 3.5 back because of electrocution risks or else. Indeed I've had noticed power on one jack while unplugging. (with power off...!) I was so pleased with them...I'm a beginner, small room.... Hi, which one performs better at the lowest volume, ie, has the most detail. I want to do mixing, but at low volume close range. I like the 3.5 because they're smaller size, but your demo clearly shows that the 4.5 have a greater depth to them, so I guess I'm wondering if that still translates at the lowest volumes, or if the 3.5 would perform better at the lowest volume, thanks!

I'd go for the Presonus Eris E3.5 speakers. For me it's actually a good thing that they don't go that deep in the bass frequency - so you can combine them with a small subwoofer (like Fostex PM-SUBmini 2) where you get a decent 3-way system with the bass centered between your feet (just like in the mix where the bass is also centered) and where the bass is much better separated from the low-mids. I still have to wait until late August 2018 to get them together with the Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 subwoofer here in my music store - but I'll check these out immediately afterwards.
@spookymulder11714 жыл бұрын
Exactly what i was also going for, how is the presonus 3.5 work with the fostex Pm-SUBmini 2 for you?
@Master.Mi.7774 жыл бұрын
@@spookymulder1171 It's a really awesome combination for listening to music, watching movies or playing games on a high sound quality level. You will also have a great room sound (if you angle them slightly upwards , so that the horizontal axis between tweeter and woofer is at the height of your ears - in your sitting position in front of your studio desk as well as in the back of the room) and you'll have a pretty wide sweet spot 'cause of the smart construction of the dome tweeters of the Presonus Eris E3.5. I've also tested the Presonus Eris E3.5 against the Presonus Eris E4.5 in a music store against each other - and I'd still prefer the smaller (and newer) model of the Presonus Eris E3.5. To me they sounded a little bit better 'cause of a better separation of the bass and lower mids (at the E4.5 they frequencies seem to muddle up a bit more or flow too much into each other, so that the whole sound seems to become at little bit less clean or a little bit duller). The Presonus Eris E3.5 are also pretty silent when it comes to annoying inherent noises (you might only hear some inherent noises, if you get with your ears very close to the tweeters) - so these are also highly recommended near-field studio reference monitors. And straight from the sound quality, I can say that the Presonus Eris E3.5 - even with a less deep bass - can easily keep up with or even surpass many of the larger beginner and mid-range studio monitors. ... But if you look for studio monitors for composing and mixing, the Yamaha MSP 3 (similar size, but 4 times as much in the price) might be a little better option. They might sound a little bit less spectacular - but these have a slightly better audio resolution (the best I've probably ever listened to at studio monitors) and these might show you a little bit better the weaknesses in your mix. But if you are able to create a good mix on these, you might be sure that the track will sound good on other systems as well. .... In the end, in smaller or medium-sized and acoustically not treated rooms you will be radically satisfied with the Presonus Eris E3.5 (for really good performance of this combinated system set volume of the Presonus Eris E3.5 at 50 %, treble level at 50 %, bass level at 25 %) + Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 (at this device set volume at around 25 % and crossover at the lowest setting of 60 Hz) combo - because it's radically awesome to listen to soundtracks with this equipment and you will be also able to do quite good mixing decisions in most cases.

@@Master.Mi.777 Hi, do you think that the e3.5 is better than the e4.5 even without adding a sub? (I don't plan to add). I need it for listening to music, editing and some mixing. Also, would the e3.5 be a good reference tool in the future, when I buy large monitors? or is the e4.5 better for this?
@Master.Mi.7773 жыл бұрын
@@Darkred11 If you want really precise tools for mixing, rather go straight for the Yamaha MSP 3. These are some of the most accurate studio monitors I ever have worked with (I think, I will upload one of my first remixes mixed on these Japanese high-end studio monitors within the next months). ... If you don't have the money to buy these at the moment, I'd rather go for the Presonus Eris E3.5 instead of the Presonus Eris E4.5 - even without a subwoofer and especially in small oder medium-sized rooms. ... If you don't have proper acoustic treatment in your room, the E4.5 will fill your room with too much reflections of lower frequencies (also the lower mids of the E4.5 might be covered too much by the too strong bass) and this might massively lead to worse mixing decisions. ... The E3.5 already have a little bit too strong bass response for my taste of listening to a preferably linear frequency response. So, I even turned down the bass level of the E3.5 from 50 % (neutral position) to around 30 % and the trebles from 50 % (neutral position) to around 45 %. Seems to be kinda perfect for my room conditions (no matter if with or without a sub). ... If you want to go for much more accurate studio monitors like the Yamaha MSP 3 later on, the Presonus Eris E3.5 will be still very good reference monitors. At the moment, I use them as pretty amazing TV speakers for gaming or movie events with my best friends, because these little guys sound really clean, full and kinda even in the frequency range in acoustically untreated rooms. And of course, I still use them as secondary reference studio monitors to evaluate the final mix I did on my Yamaha MSP 3. Since the Yamaha MSP series seems to reveal all the weaknesses of your mix, these mixes always sound superb on the E3.5 or any other studio monitors I've tested in a professional music store. ... And compared to many bigger studio monitors, the Yamaha MSP 3 as well as the Presonus Eris E3.5 make no annoying inherent noises. So, the Presonus Eris E3.5 - just like the Yamaha MSP 3 - will always be an excellent near-field studio monitor listening device.

@1nterpreter Жыл бұрын

Hi, Digital Stereophony, I m looking for some PC speakers for music most of part, what can you recommend? I saw that you recommend PreSonus Eris 4.5, EDIFIER R1280T, Mackie CR4, what should I choose...something up to $ 150.
@camelCased5 жыл бұрын
I had similar choices - wanted something small but with good sound quality so I can not only listen but also produce musing in those rare inspiration moments. So, after some analysis, listening to comparisons and reading articles, I found that R1280T might be more pleasing for casual listening and if you like "disco smile" type of sound and bass-heavy music. But if you listen to light music or want something accurately sounding (that sometimes might be not pleasant), you should go for Presonus. But there are some caveats: from Amazon reviews, I found that Mackies can sometimes overheat and burn and Presonus have an issue with audible white noise when no signal is coming in. So, there's no ideal choice, unfortunately; just compromises you have to live with. I personally will buy Presonus 3.5 because I need something small for working quietly (I'm into ambient and calm music mostly), and then, most probably, I'll use the knobs and EQs to bring highs/mids down a bit, when listening. And, very likely, I'll buy a small sub to compensate for 3.5 lacking of bass, but definitely nothing strong, just to add some lower vibration. Without a sub there's a risk I might add too much of higher bass because of lack of that special "shake the guts" feeling in lows. I have read some other positive experience story about 3.5 + sub.
