I use Scratch Pads all the time. My favorite use is this: when I want to record guitar solo over a bridge (or something), I copy the bridge into a scratch pad and duplicate it ten times or more. Then I hit record and just play. Afterwards I have ten versions of a solo. Now I can pick the pieces I like best and stitch them together. I do the same thing with bass lines. I copy the chord progression into a scratch pad, press record and start generating ideas. Very handy.

I think having the ability to make scratch pads full screen will make this feature much better because it will act like a second arrangement window instead of a "something I want to try then leave it there". Just like different playlist arrangements in FL Studio. Therefore eliminating the need of creating a new song versions, you can have Explicit, Clean and Concert version in a single file this way by using the scratch pads (changing its name to Arrangement Window would be better in this case)

Agree! I use scratchpads to record the various scenes of 20-scene radio plays (since they cannot be recorded in sequence) and always feel limited by the divider.

I wish I had seen this 4 days ago. I got a call from a movie producer. They liked my heavy metal song, but they wanted to use it in an indie film about teenagers and so could I edit down the arrangement and parts, slow the tempo and change some of the words. I needed to do it overnight because the scene was being shot the next day and they needed something for roll to shoot and sync up later. I did it by copying the song, which was fine, but it would've been much better to do as a scratchpad, particularly to do that sync mode thing to hear the section transitions. Now I know. Thanks @Gregor

So if you like the new arrangement on the scratch pad, how do you quickly move it over to the regular track?
@bedbedrooms2 жыл бұрын
I guess it's just drag n drop. I also am using it for the first time, gonna try drag n drop today for the new audio files I've recorded on the scratch pad.
@MrTrogfish2 жыл бұрын
@@bedbedrooms I would "save a new version" as Gregor did, or even consider 'save to a new folder' for a 'backup/ alternate' song file. Then, delete everything in the main arranger to clear it out. Then, as you say, drag n drop the scratch pad version to the main window.
@tothrec2 жыл бұрын
You can either Drag and Drop or copy/paste between the main panel and your scratchpad.

Heya Gregor, when using the Arranger Track and Scratch Pads, I sometimes run into issues with sections not being cut and paste 100% correctly. Sometimes I am off by just 1 beat or so: maybe a little short, or a little long. I am asking for you to do a deep dive video on it, and explain how (and if) the Quantize settings and the various Snap to grid options (or anything else) may be affecting what I am doing wrong or getting undesired results when editing Arranger sections? Thanks!

Hey there Gregor, here's one for you, in the previous version 4.- I wrote a tune, I played all the parts, now in the new version I can still hear the music but there is no longer any graphical display of the waveforms........ why is that? what am I doing wrong or what is wrong with version 5.- ..........? I have played around with studio one from the beginning or near it...... all for my own fun really, a hobby, I am old now......... been playing music one way or another since I was a little kid........ I just wish things would just work, but some things digitally don't where analog would, everyone treats the digital age as a life saver......... but only me it seems, I have lost more stuff through digital data than any other medium, it's a killer, even iron ferrite tape last longer as long as you never went near a magnet. hahahahahaha

Have you made a video about file structure and where things all get saved? If not could you make one? This is the most confusing thing I find with Studio One. I have files and plugins in folders all over the place on my computer.
@tothrec2 жыл бұрын
Hit Ctrl (or Command) comma to bring up Options. Then go to the Locations tab and then the User Data sub-tab. This is where you tell Studio One the location for your songs.
@tothrec2 жыл бұрын
It'd be nice to see how it works when you remove the middle 2-4 bars of a section (so you still get the fill into the next section). Also, last time I tried, inserting or deleting bars within the main workspace also applies that shift to all of your scratchpads. I reported this as a bug, but was told it is as intended. What do you folks think?
@PatMaddox2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like an awful bug to me. Scratch pads are supposed to be independent timelines, right? So inserting/removing bars in one timeline should NOT affect other ones.
@tothrec2 жыл бұрын

is there a quick way to replace then what is in the main windows with the scratch pad version ? I never use it because I dont want to create a mess and confusion
@MrTrogfish2 жыл бұрын
There isn't a ' one button' command to swap the 'Scratch pad' info with the main arranger info. But it's really not a big deal. Just save alternate versions as Gregor did, or 'save to a new folder' to protect yourself. Then, have at it all you want. Even if you 'make a mess' you can go back to the other song file, or alternate version. (Don't forget the 'undo history' can and will save you too.) Scratch pads are really handy and useful, very much worth using for many things.

@Realliedoe2 жыл бұрын
“Select All” (Ctrl+A on Windows, Cmd+A on Mac) on everything in the Scratch Pad and right click and select “copy” from menu, go to “Start” page and create or find the song you wanna paste it to, open song and go to “edit” tab and paste it. That simple 😉
