I voted for this song, and I don't hate Russians or Australians (I'm Norwegian). This was simply the better song. There was no bitterness or hate in Jamala's song, there was pain and grief, and it was real. When she won she said she wished for peace and love for everyone. Come on, if you listen to the Russian song, it was good, but nothing special. This was clearly better. The Australian song was amazing, but Jamala showed more emotion. It touched people more, I think that was the reason she won.

at the end of the day it's very subjective- I am Ukrainian/Mexican , but I would accept it if Australia or Russia won- these three songs were in the same tier and Ukraine gave 12 points to Russia while Russia gave 10 points to Ukraine. I would think that Russia considers it to be a good song, but I question the motif when they get so angry those 10 points helped Jamala win. Eurovision is very old yet we still can't be respectful of everyone's opinion

No, they were not killed. They were settled in a fertile southern part of the Soviet Union and their population TRIPLED in a few decades, and then they were allowed to come back, under Khrushchev I believe. Plus it leaves out that the Crimean Tartars, before 1944, were cooperating with the German Nazis and were killing the ethnic Russians in Crimea. Some say they were deported to prevent them from receiving revenge attacks from Russian soldiers returning to find their families killed and homes burned from the Crimean Turks.

According to what she said, the music was inspired by her grand grandmother who was deported from Crimea to Central Asia. "They packed all people to the vans like beasts for a few weeks with no food and water. Those who couldn’t survive were thrown out and left lying on the ground. My grand grandmother lost one of her daughters", said Jamala. Maybe her life history is not in the history books but, it does not mean that this story was invented by Jamala's mint and other bunch of families. You only cannot agree with her if you think that she is lying about the tragedy that happen to her family - what I think it's true once it happen to other families as well. And if you don't think she is lying, she is singing about the truth, and in this way the people are saying the "Truth won". :) Sergei, now I am curious to know what you know about the 2nd World War that you do not agree with us.

The voting system hasn't changed, only the way to announce the points!! Why does nobody understand it? Yeah, Russia had the most points from the audience and Australia has the highest score from the jury BUT only the result of both the jury AND the televots are significant for the victory!
