I laughed when you said "This is going to be exciting!" This past week I've been really into presser feet and the impact the correct one has on your sewing. So, I was like, " YEA!! YES, I'm excited! " You're awesome!!!!

HA HA!! I think it's exciting too, but in terms of youtube probably not too high on the excitement scale. I've used several this week and I'm always amazed by what they do for sewing and quilting! I'm so happy you enjoyed it!

@@PattymacMakes I felt so brave when I first dropped my presser foot ! And, heroic when I reattached it! Sewing machines can be so intimidating. They do deserve a certain respect...not just for what they do, the amazing mechanics, but also, the caution around a fast moving very sharp thing. Yikes ! Also, I just learned that sometimes a faulty presser foot, or one that isn't quite level, can mistakenly "turn" the fabric to one side or the other while sewing. By that I mean, you can start off with a fine 1/4 hem, and gradually end up with a 1/8 and then be fighting your feed to regain your 1/4. This has been a real problem...I'm hoping it's not my new little Brother machine. Or is that a known issue with them? If you have any tips regarding this!!! Help!

@@skylark5789 I completely agree that respecting them is so important!! I always turn my machine off when I'm fiddling around close to the needle. But I often leave it on for videos because that little light makes a difference. As far as your issue goes....have you tried using a stylus to guide your fabric to keep the seam allowance at 1/4"? I have found the stylus helps me a lot. You can use a seam ripper or I used a knitting needle today. Just something to guide the fabric towards the end. Also slowing down the speed helps. But the stylus is so helpful, especially with a triangle. I don't really know anything about a brother. I only know about what I'm using. But I do know sometimes a presser foot can cause an issue. Try the stylus and see if that helps. I was surprised it made such a difference.

@@PattymacMakes Great suggestion! Thank you. Same here with the light on! especially when threading ( even though I have a threader thingy, which in itself is hysterical, because at first it took me longer to thread the threader than it would have taken me to do the needle myself !) when you need the light on the most, but God forbid the machine stays on for THAT! LOL. I wish I could post a picture for you of my first ever quilt.

@@skylark5789 You should join my Maker's group on facebook! You could share it in there. Pattymac Makers On the subject of needle threader, I have discovered that the eyes of the needles are not the same on all needles so sometimes the auto threader doesn't work. I find it interesting Singer sells needles that don't work with their own needle threaders. I do have a desktop OTT lite that I use even in the daytime to help me see, so I do recommend that. But again, it's not fantastic for making videos.

I can't believe all this time I've been fumbling around trying to clip or grip my presser feet on. Well, duh, they are called snap-on feet for a reason...they SNAP on when you lower the presser bar down onto them! LOL! Thanks Pattymac.

Only possible if it is a newer machine. I had to order a shank adaptor and a 1/4 inch seam presser foot for an 80s Kenmore machine. Thankfully i have my Husqy that has a needle position to give me my seam allowance required. I hope you will cover these dilemmas for folks with much older machines.
@PattymacMakes4 жыл бұрын
Lisa I only talk about the machines I have and they are all pretty new. Older machines each have their own individual idosyncracies and I would not feel qualified to talk about them. Plus I don't have any older machines in my possession to film and utilize. I'm not really a sewing machine channel but more about general sewing and beginner quilting with basic machine usage. I hope you can find someone that addresses your specific questions.

Hi Frank! Actually, my new machine DOES have that feature! So when I do a machine features video I will certainly include it! Right now I'm planning to do mostly small projects and Christmas sewing for a while. That's more widely searched at this point than machine features, but in the new year I will be sure to include it.

Here in ireland I have mixed up the presser feet with different ones So I hope to separate the right ones from the wrong ones

Just look for the illustrations that go with your particular machine and you should figure them out.

Hi Patty! Another great video! ... I don't have a wider/thinner option on my waistline, sadly only the wider hahahaha love your sense of humor! Ordered that Machine Magic book on your amazon link, comes soon....looks like a wonderful book!...How many needle positions do you have on your Brilliance? It looks like more that I have on my midline Babylock machine...I need to look into that!!!...btw I had been subscribed to you and I noticed today my subscribe button was off!! .... Does that happen sometimes? I didn't unsubscribe :/ .... Blessings to you

Hi Luann! You will LOVE that book!! It's SO GOOD. And thank you for using my link. I just got that set up so I'm starting to put links in videos and on my website. My patchwork has 7 settings for needle position. One in the middle and 3 on either side. I think the Brilliance is the same. Oh. gosh, it's so handy. KZbin is really being a challenge right now. I don't know what in the world is going on. Yes they will sometimes unsubscribe people and they will suppress the notifications. It's very hard to get yourself out there when they do this sort of thing. And it's why I encourage people who like the content to get onto the email list so they at least get what I mail out once a week. Thank you for letting me know. I am unable to see who subscribes or unsubscribes so I have no idea what's going on. And there is no way to message viewers. The communication on the platform is not very good. Please let me know what you find out on your Babylock!!
