I love the Weck Jars too. As you know we here in Germany are Canning with them mostly. And your explaining how to use them👍, perfect. A little tini tiny Tip...... You can stack one on the other, it's possible. Till three Jars high. If a Jar has lost its Seal the little Tab at the gasket will point straight or up. Even if you stacked one on the other. The Tab at the gasket will show you the seal.

I love sloppy Joe's. My father made the best that I have ever eaten. I wish that I had gotten his recipe. He made his from memory and never wrote it down. We love Sloppy Joes, especially the bold variety. I'll have to add some spice but this is a great recipe. Also love the Weck jars. I didn't know the seal was reusable over and over so what a great selling point. I appreciate you using and demonstrating with this for this Canuary. Weren't the old hinge and clamp jars the same premise? Thank you so much!

@Bird72. LOVE those old hinge and clamp jars! I was gifted around 50 of them from my mother-in-law. While I don't can with them, I do use them to store my pantry items in.

@@susanthornfeldt5947 thank you for sharing that! If used for canning, you would clamp and process with the rubber gasket "seal," correct? I love running across these in antique stores and imagine who used them when they were new. 😌

OK, the sloppy joes are in the canner right now! Such an easy recipe. It made 8 1/2 pints. I already ate the half pint straight out of the pan; it was too delicious to save for later! This doubles as a Pantry Challenge activity, as I had every ingredient on hand, some preserved from my garden. Feels good to get 6 lbs of ground beef out of the freezer, too!

I've never canned anything in my cooking career. My mother always had a garden and canned yearly but that never transferred over to me. Where we live in s Florida, we don't have the space or the storage for canning and that bums me out a bit, but on the other hand, I grow bananas, pineapples, & peppers. I'm trying to keep two small vanilla bean orchids alive also. Going to try this recipe (but not for canning) because it seems Mr. Smith enjoyed it so much. He is one lucky and well fed man.

I will replicated the SJ's for our next camping trip. Also from Germany, here. We usually do not use pressure canners, they are not allowed due to safety concerns (believe it or not). Can't buy one here, would have to import it. If it explodes and blows up my kitchen, insurance would not pay (LoL). So what we do in Germany, we can it twice: In this case once for 90-120 minutes at 100C then we let it cool and sit for 36 to 48 hours and cook it again at 100C for 60mins. Or can it once, and always heat it before consumption for at least 5 mins. Different ways to achieve the same 🙂. Good video. Thanks!
