Hi. A top tip for you when using a pressure cooker. You might here people talk about NPR (natural pressure release) This refers to not opening the valve and letting the pressure come down slowly by itself. When cooking meat you should do this to keep the meat tender. If you release the pressure immediately it can toughen the meat. Other foods like pasta and vegetables can quickly over cook so you would always release the pressure immediately for them. So NPR for meat..only takes about 10 or 15 minutes to release naturally... Hope this helps.. Ant.

Hi G! You need to leave it to naturally release the pressure. Not release the valve until it drops naturally by itself. I’d cook it for at least an hour first and just leave it till the pin drops. It will fall apart. Great video! 💯

@Luminara19812 жыл бұрын
I'd have done a 'slow' pressure release and after the time was up, left the unit off and let the pressure release naturally for about 30 minutes (extra cooking time) before releasing the excess pressure and opening the unit. red meats can often 'seize' if the pressure is released too quickly because moisture pulled from the meat and can go tough, pressure cooking was a massive learning curve for me. Its not an easy method to master but you did a good hob Gareth!! ☺

I've got an instant pot one. The cook time for a stew is 35 minutes, but adding in the saute time and the time it takes to build up pressure + a bit of natural release time =over an hour, but makes the most tender stew ever. I had to stop using the stew seasoning mixes though because thick sauces catch on the bottom and bring up the 'food burning' warning. I use Knorr stockpots and Oxo cubes now and thicken at the end with cornflour
@BaldFoodieGuy2 жыл бұрын
cheers for the tips

That's interesting I never knew it had a burn warning. I've had my instant pot for 6 months now (love it!), Made all sorts of concoctions including stews and mac cheese.. And I haven't had that burn warning... YET lol

I agree, any new cooking device like that takes some experomenting and that is all part of the fun.. looks good to me Gareth. My Gran always used one of those old fashioned pressure cookers but my parents never had one to my knowledge. I confess to having an airfryer here that was sent as a gift from my cousin in the USA...two years ago !! and I have not even plugged it in yet, don't thisk it has a pressure cooker function though.I will dig it out and try it next week, my turn to experiment. I use my slow cooker I got from lakeland for curries, chilli and casseroles , sometimes chunky soups.

When I pressure cook and its time to vent I just put a couple of tea towels loosely over the vent so they kill most of the steam. My Gran had a weight one, used to stand a barge pole away when she was taking it off to vent. The new ones are far better, safer, easy to use and versatile. Can't beat a bit of gravy 😋.

Funny story to share. My Mom was a big fan of pressure cookers, you know, the type that was used on the stove top and had little metal rockers that hissed at you in syncopated rhythms. Dad had a job that involved chemicals that made you high every day. One day he came home from work and Mom had 2 or 3 pressure cookers going at the same time, and Dad thought dinner smelled amazing and he whipped off one of the rockers and there was soup all over the ceiling. Mom's opinion of this can't be repeated here. Dinner was late.😁

Unfortunatly the mustard in the cooker escaped with the steam and coated the ktchen ceiling in YELLOW MUSTARD ,,,, We were living in a council house but. it still had to be painted.... I have a pressure cooker, not an air fryer, and if I do a joint of meat in it I heave it for at least 1 hour 30 minutes as I like the meat to fall apart. If you like the meat to fall apart like a pulled pork sandwich then do it for as long as possible especially a tough joint like Brisket.

As you said I would have given it an hour in the pressure cooker and then let it naturally release, rather than releasing the pressure after 4 minutes. I find for tougher meats it's best to let it naturally release. It looked absolutely delicious at the end though 😋 You can get a gadget called a steam diverter or steam splitter for the Instant Pot that fits over the vent and it directs the steam outwards, rather than up. I'm not sure if you can get the same sort of thing for the Ninja?
