Being judged for being feminine or masculine isn't the only judging the gay community does. As an amputee I've been judged by a few. Before they even get to know me. Just physical judging. I might have a disability but I'm still human. I am just like anyone else.

I can’t tell you how many people that are surprised that I’m gay from having a thick Wisconsin accent with a deep voice… “You’re gay? You can’t be! You have a low voice!” Me: “What does THAT have to do with anything?”

As a fem gay man who is CONSTANTLY spoken down to by straight people, and gay men alike, I 100% stand by this. People don't realize how crushing the weight of societal standards can be on men who don't fit the mold, and people of all walks of life are guilty of perpetuating the stereotype of masculinity we're expected to align with.

sometimes just being nice and kind already raises eyebrows with some, that it doesn't fit the norm or the expected way of interaction (might as well then talk to an AI bot !), or somehow suspecting there were something behind that or someone wanting something in exchange

Dylan, thanks again for a great and informative video! I'm enjoying this very much. And you're absolutely right. All too often, we, as men, face undue pressure to be "masculine" when we need to stay sensitive, joyful, and compassionate to be *human* . For our own growth and mental health.

I’m about to iron my clothes for tomorrow, and just finished watching this video. Of your videos I have had the honor viewing, you have shared traumatic and otherwise hurtful events with us, your audience. From your former work situation, where you were, “let go”, because of the bigoted behavior of others, to when you shared about your marriage and how it came to an end. You have been open, honest and real with us. I found this video to be very encouraging, as well as very inspiring. If I may encourage you to continue to be real and thank you for both, encouraging and challenging us, to the same. Thank You!

But from what u said I could imagine the positive comments and reactions would far outweigh the negative and hateful comments. Thanks for being authentic and being so honest about your own personal struggles. Oh and BTW..... Mermaids are awesome! 😃

Dylan, stumbled across ur channel this week and now have looked at several videos. Am so impressed with your humanity, compassion, and your survival of the hatred all of us have suffered. I am a different generation, 82, the first generation to embrace gay pride and the truth that we are just as good as any other group. Our community is guilty of being unkind to those who did not fit some preordained stereotype of what a man or woman is ‘supposed’ to be. When I was in my 20s, any gay who had reached 30 was already undesirable. Think that is a little better today, but not for us seniors. But that is a problem also for the society as a whole not just us LGBTQs. Also, something that was very common in the latter 60s and before is every gay guy would be saddled with a female name by his own subculture- the ‘Mary’ or Ruby or Thelma or some other moniker. Sort of confirming certain hetero’s beliefs that a gay was a woman in the body of a man. Of course, all of us are both part masculine and part feminine. In fact, at conception we all start out as female before the X chromosome donated by the male asserts itself, when it does. Anyway, I always thought taking on the name of a woman was playing into the hands of the enemy, so to speak. My greatest respect goes out to the drag queens who have been on the frontlines in the war for our recognition. In 1969 at the Stonewall Bar in NYC, it was the drag queens who did the fighting against the police during the raid. They were and still are the bravest of the brave, risking their lives at times. My thanks to you for your talks. They belong in college courses. Take care of yourself, my friend. Herman in Seattle

i remembered in my previous firehouse alot of them suspected me to be gay cuz i used to move different from them and my obsession with female music artists (especially Lady Gaga) but i never confirmed it with them to their closed minded homophobic ways one day when I was in the dormitory one of them was like "i think i know what to get you for Christmas" me- really? what is it? "a book... How to Act like a F*cking Man!" me- 🖕😒🖕

Yeah, people need to realize that there is really no such thing as masculine or feminine, it's just a victorian social construct to keep control of people and assign them roles. Everyone is a mix of qualities, that's what makes you a unique individual.

I made a video about the hatefulness in the gay community a few years ago and it randomly started poppin' off this year. I'm workin' on editing a sequel to it that hopefully offers some solutions and advice for how to be empathetic. Although I imagine the people who need it most probably won't watch it 😵💫
