This is where I came in, a year ago! I’ve learned a lot since then. I’ve been thinking about this carb design - with the built-in shutoff valve. First, I’m surprised they didn’t make this like a typical ball valve. Other than that, it makes sense if you think about fuel economy and protecting the carb from fouling. We know that the best way to protect a carb is to run an engine dry after use. If we assume that’s a given, then what’s the least wasteful way of doing it? With the shutoff placed as close to the carb as possible! The other consideration is placement of the shutoff in the most obvious location - right on the carb next to the choke! That way nothing in the design of an engine between the fuel tank and the carb has to be sacrificed to wedge in a petcock. Perfect! This design could be incorporated into machines where a fuel solenoid and ancillary electricals may not be desirable, plus simplifying the overall design. True, it means the operator is required to bend down on a mower to shut it off, but the positives may very well outweigh the negatives in many cases. At least this design gives engineers an alternative.

Thank you for posting this video. This was the problem with my Generac. Since mine was ten years old I replaced the carburetor. It was just $12 more than the gasket kit. It started on first pull.

It was the EXACT problem I was having with my GX390 but after a clean out it's running like a scalded dog with no hiccups. Thanks again!

Wonderful job exploring! As you said, now I'm 99.4% sure this is my issue.😊 I hadn't used mine for a couple 2-3 years. 😁 I added gas, oil and the spark plug this season. Low and behold, start then stop. Start then stop! Just gonna have a repair shop handle it. But I will mention the gasket to save them the exploration! Thanks a ton!!

You called that carb, I think, a Honda clone. I haven’t seen one like that yet (with the additional part to one side), so I’ll be doing more research to learn about that type. Can you tell me exactly what that part does that you replaced the gasket in? Thanks! Oops, never mind! Just watched parts of the video again and figured out it’s the fuel shutoff switch. Come to think of it, I may have some pieces of free equipment out in the yard with the same carbs - just haven’t worked on them yet. 🔧👍

Yea some of the replacement carbs have done away with the fuel shutoff. It’s nice to have but just makes one more place to leak/ corrode

Greetings! This video came up in my feed yesterday and I learned something new about 4T carbs, so thanks! I’ve subscribed to your channel and will be going through your videos to hopefully learn more. I knew immediately that you were from my neck of the woods (I’m on the Cape) and confirmed that later on in another video. See my comments in other videos for followup. What’s your first name?

Great video. I think my generac is about to have the exact same problem. Very hard to turn on or off the fuel flow switch. Suspect rolled gasket. I have searched both Amazon and Ebay and am unable to find any kit which seems to contain that gasket. Do you still have the name / number of the kit that you used.

I have a craftsman with honda and it runs and puts out great pressure but when I let go of the trigger it stalls and seems to over pressurize. Any thoughts. Its only 2 years old and not used much at all

I found a one wash generac pressure washer. I cleaned the carburetor, put fresh fuel and checked the oil. It has compress but still won’t start. Do you have any idea why it won’t start? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
@hester781 Жыл бұрын
So I’m going to start with a couple of questions. -Will it start if you spray starting fluid directly into the carburetor? And if not -Have you checked for spark?
