Yeah seriously the unsuspecting people have no idea... It's a lot to be mentioned modestly haha. But hey if they're watching the video at least they find it interesting and if anyone is reading this and taking it discouragingly 90% of it is labor and is actually really fun most of the time if you're new and want to dabble start off with a riding mower or a dirt bike and see if you like it.. with that said I'm more of a leave the lift stock or reverse level with overload bags kinda guy but whatever you choose I love the content regardless

That sand blaster works well with a higher gpm pressure washer. I used it with a 5.5gpm worked great

Being from Texas, I am interested to find out if the fuel cooler actually works. Our summers are about 8 months long and are super hot. That could mean a lot of fuel economy difference for those living in southern states. Speaking of southern states, have you thought about starting with a southern truck instead of fixing all the rust on a northern truck?

Made some good progress on the rustmax but if you’re gonna be doing rust repairs and paint, I highly suggest a tarp or something to cover the Duramax engines that you have sitting on the floor, and buy a car/truck cover to cover the WifeMax and protect the paint! And do 33’s and leveling kit on the rustmax 🤘🏻

Thanks for this video. I bought an 05 Sierra LLY in April of last year, and the Northern IL winters have put a lot of rust on the frame (fortunately the rockers are in pretty good shape). This spring I’m going to get under there with the angle grinder and get as much as I can without taking the whole thing apart like you did. Appreciate the tips and seeing you do it here.

I bought the same kit. I used black diamond red or black bag from tractor supply and it’s night and day difference between sand and coal slag. I used 2 bags to do 3/4 of a frame on northern Ohio truck

I know what it takes to restore them bottom up, my brother has done two restos bottom up absolutely everything new. Alot of time and work!! Keep it up! I'd recommend using wol wax or PB blaster undercoat to keep everything rust free. Repair Geek has proven it keeps a frame rust free after 7 years in the rust belt.

Hey Josh. If you want to remove that wax coating, put some diesel fuel in a spray bottle and soak the area. Let it sit for an hour or so and the wax coating wipes away. I did the back half of my LLY earlier this year and it worked like a charm. Just hit it with degreaser after and rinse off. Makes it so much cleaner when you go to hit the frame with the wire wheel or grinder after. Can't wait to see the end result of this project!

As far as the RustB7 goes, I'm a big fan of the big lift trucks. Need to make it bigger than the Powerstroke for sure! Maybe the 8" with a set of 40x14.50s under it.

sounds like you need to install a bypass loop in your fuel cooler setup for the really cold days, like a quarter turn ball valve you can reach easy. interesting experiment.

You want to try coal slag from tractor supply And use aircraft paint remover to melt away the wax under coating

you should get you a big 7 1/2 grinder and big wire wheel for the wide open areas and do the tight places with the 4 1/2 grinder to speed up some

4 inch kit with 33's, park your truck inside your shop to help keep your fuel warmer. And doctor the crap out of your fuel, used Power Service in the tractor trailer for years primarily running Minn, Wisconsin, and all of the northern states. When It was going to be in 45° below I'd also stick piece of cardboard between the grill and radiator, leaving enough open for your intercooler.

Would a cooler bypass be possible? Thinking of a couple 1/4 turn ball valves for the colder temps. If that works, do a more permanent install with a couple servo valves.

I use that exact sand blast kit. My pressure washer puts out 4000psi and I use sand from home depot much cheaper and it works great

i used one of those sandblasters and your supposed to use play box sand and it helps to have a second person wiggle the straw in the bucket it worked great

Level it or leave it close to stock. I have the same model and color lly. I just used the same Amazon special sand blaster. I used the same sand from harbor freight for an hour too lol. Had the same result and switched to fine play sand from Lowe’s and it worked way better for what it is. Love the videos

I say stock to 2inch level kit I say for the stance.. and for the engine simple setup. I have 05 lly I'm doing pretty much what you are doing.. just gotta do it Lil different since it's my daily now. But plan on replacing bed and doing the frame like you are.. gotta replace rockers and cab corners per usual Michigan truck and front fenders.

I have used these dustless kits and for a frame like yours you need CRUSHED glass, and 40 grit at that. It will do it, need a large trashcan for the media., and the bounce back will sting and will travel some

Reverse level with some 285/33’s. Truck will be quicker with the smeller lighter wheel setup. Plus everything else you have it lifted

I haven't done it, but I wonder if you should try treating some areas with Evaporust. Just try to spray it on several times so it has time to soak into the rust. I would try a weed sprayer to apply it. Then after a few days, try the sand blaster. I suspect you might get some results in areas that you can't reach with a wire brush. Just a thought.

Gotta love harbor freight, lol. I bought the sandblaster last year, same media. It works for what it is, but definitely not good on hard core rust like you got. That wire wheel tho, that thing is the best. You should see me over here with 3 trucks apart, got my winter projects in full swing.

I have a pressure washer type the sand is expensive .. I use the glass type (here in Canada it's $12 for 50lb ) but you have to use as course as you can get , fine isn't worth $hit ..

You could chemically remove the rust with hydrochloric acid from the pool section of any box store just wear a mask and wash out the parts soon as its eats the rust or it will start to convert the steel into ferrous chloride. The only reason the reaction works is because the conversion of steel to ferrous chloride is slow compared to iron oxide to ferrous chloride.

I used a 4400 psi pressure washer and black diamond medium grit with the attachment got my whole frame down to bare metal, my frame was worse than that one too, it just takes ALOT of pressure, 3000 I would say is MINIMUM, 2500 standard pressure washers won’t do it
