the spread between the purchase and selling prices doesn't leave much room for prep-work costs and warranty claims. even a moderate repair on some of these will wipe out any margin.

Great video again Lee.. Can't understand why some of those vehicles were selling maybe around a grand under retail.. Why would you buy at that price.. As a dealer no room left for profit after costs etc.. As a private buyer you might as well just go to the dealerships get a car fully prepped and with warranty.. Plus with cash chip the dealer back a bit on the screen price.. Just can't get my head around some of the prices folk are paying 😮

That M140i is almost exactly the same as mine. Great car and a proper BMW with 6 cylinder engine and rear wheel drive. People were struggling to sell them a few months back due to high insurance, but that blip seems to have passed.

Every car is insane price at auction, especially cheap automatics. Its hard to get a bargain so I leave empty handed at times but you got to keep at it and wait for that one bargain to land.

You're not wrong. I used to be able to put people in a decent 10 year old car for a grand, or in a 3 year old ex-rep's car with 80-100k for around £2500-£3000. Sadly, those days are long gone. Partly, it's because rep's cars aren't really a thing anymore, so less supply, and for me (I sold mainly to the taxi market), most councils won't allow taxi drivers to register older cars for private hire these days, so there's a lot more demand for newer, higher end stuff that everyone else wants too, so prices are artificially higher. Glad I'm not in the game anymore, I don't know how Lee stays sane.

I recently went to AB Wakefield honestly there were no bargains nearly all cars going well over clean barely any profit whats going on even cheap stuff I need theres nothing. How the hell do those small connectors allow starting currents for a car engine? You normally need heavy duty cables. I can imagine if you’ve a perfectly working car and the only problem is a flat battery that it might start immediately, so it won’t have a chance to get hot. I’d hate to crank on it.

The Ssangyong engine 2.2 engine is not from mercedes. It's their own unit. 180PS and 400NM. From 65 onwards they are euro 6 compliant and no SCR/Ad blue faff. The earlier 2.0 was only euro 5 with about 150PS. Agree with others about the wheels. Not a bad car but the ride and refinement are a little agricultural.

Common faults are the air con pipes on these are a bit short so the joins go weak and loss of refrigerant follows. Airbag connection throws codes.

I stand corrected you are indeed right, later models are not merc units but the earlier models did have merc engines. They seem to have used there own unit from 2012/13 onwards. They did keep the merc boxes throughout production which was a good idea

I think they are only gonna go higher. Reason for this is government legislation for electrification. Electric cars are depreciating fast and ICE cars are going up because they are going to become more scarce. The market is adjusting for this

Finance would be clear at the point of sale, sometimes finance houses are very slow or forget to take off the markers on hpi, always worth speaking to the original finance lender first as most of the time its a error and they have no interest in the vehicle

Try paying our auction fees, preparation fees and employer wages. Then see what you are left with… the £10k you would be spending is on a car which would be full prepped, pdi checked, motd, valeted and serviced. If that car needed two panels painting for example and a couple of wheels refurbishing that’s £450 gone straight away, £400 auction fee then you have delivery/collection costs, it’s the best part of £1k gone before the cars even clean and serviced… car sales isn’t what public think it is.

Population has increased by 500,000 over the past year (believe that's correct number for lawful immigration) and fewer cars have been produced over past four years. Demand is keeping prices high and that'll only get worse as many older cars become uneconomical to keep on the roads and population continues to increase.
