▬ Information ▬
House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal for HBO. It is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones and is based on Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the "Dance of the Dragons", and the war itself. The main contenders are Houses Targaryen, Hightower, Stark, Baratheon, Arryn and Velaryon.
Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Based on the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The series is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, and interweaves several plot lines with a large ensemble cast. The first narrative arc follows a civil conflict among several noble houses for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the attempts to reclaim the throne by the exiled last scion of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty; the third chronicles the rising threat of the impending winter, the legendary creatures and fierce peoples of the North.

Yeah but we got two of the best lines of the series in one of the Tyrion Chapters "The peacock calls himself Kasporio the Cunning, though Kasporio the Cunt would be more apt. A nasty piece of work" “Will you want a pig to ride as well?” asked Kasporio. “Why, I did not know your wife was in the company,” said Tyrion. “That’s kind of you to offer her, but I would prefer a horse.”

I actually really enjoyed reading about Tyrion and Illyrio traveling through Andalos, gorging themselves on expensive foods and Tyrion trying to deduce what Illyrio's deal is. Illyrio is such an important character that set so many things into motion yet we still know next to nothing about him. Having Tyrion, one of the smartest characters share a scene with him was a great way to incorporate that feeling of "What is this guy up to?" that readers have been asking themselves since the first book but actually in-universe.

I still think it was good advice for Aegon to go west. I was always puzzled why Tyrion thought he tricked him.

I don't believe he really thinks he "tricked" him. I think when he gave his advice he was just talking out of his ass and was toying with FAegon a little and didn't really believe he would take him seriously. It was however a pretty good advice in my eyes.

My two cents - Well from Tyrion's perspective he is tricking him - Tyrion understands more so than any other character (with the exception of Varys) how treacherous Westeros politics is but Varys is biased in his goal to seat Aegon so cannot be objective with Aegon for advice. Tyrion is an outsider in the inside and as a POV we can see what he sees. I would state that given Varys and Littefinger are not even POVs that we can't truly say they have the same perspective of the game of thrones as Tyrion does. So by advising Aegon to go west, he is effectively rusing him into gallantly tackling the vipers nest of Westerosi politics especially after a devastating war. Yes JonCon, Varys and Illyrio are with him but JonCon has been out of the game for over a decade, Illyrio has no capital or relationship with the great houses and Varys is a foreigner who is not trusted (Several POV characters state this) . So from Tyrion's viewpoint he is advising Aegon to go to a foreign place that gives little shit about him or targaryens as the houses have moved on and is sending him to his downfall.

@manmanman2000 is it though? the plan is too risky the golden company sure is the best mercenary company and are more loyal but still not reliable army to invade a kingdom let alone more than one the tyrells alone have 20k that aren't mercenaries they could lose before they even win any allies it's not worth 16 years or more of careful planning That's been said iam sure aegon will win for the plot even without the plot its possible but damn it's too risky to the point that it might be dumb

I think tyrion *thinks* he tricked him, and thinks eagon not going to dany is a bad idea. Either because hell be weaker, or because nothing that happens will matter if Dany arrives and just wipes the board. But ironically it was actually a good idea, bacause Dany doesnt seem to want to go west, and wouldnt have married him. There was basically no idea that dany wasnt just having a diner gas station stop to westeros, and actually wanted to help mareen. And also I dont think Tyrion-even in his current emotional state-could guess how awful westeros is being managed. There isnt 7 kingdoms, or even 5. There is a failing aliance of 4, or realistically 3 (The lannisters, Tyrel, and tge Stormlands (I doubt littlefinger could care about the outside world, hes busy enough)

Tyrion should have stayed with aegon's group. He was already there and got a full dynamic with the cast Meanwhile if and when he does meet dany we have to spend time reintroducing the cast to one another and seeing the whole situation again from another pov. Tyrion returning with aegon could have been better and hey he knows how to get into casterly rock too. Give aegon that win to keep his momentum going from taking jon cons castle to stannis castle and casterly rock. He'd win the war almost immediately after that

or george shoud have never removed danni from the story and allowed her to meet with Tyrion at the least. But you are right , as we can see in the show Danni is not a reformist, Tyrion is, it causes a lot of awkward scenes and terrible tension

W Take, I agree. GRRM needs to move the plot along. Tyrion is going to end up in Westeros and start enacting vengeance anyway and the Aegon story is one where we need more interesting POV, as opposed to introducing Jon Conn

I don't think the Cyvasse game is the opposite advice, it's Tyrion's immediate proof of his lesson. Because Tyrion told him not to trust anyone during the game, and Aegon lost because he took his advice when they started playing not to go for the quick kill by bring out his dragon too soon. Basically the lesson was that you shouldn't trust anyone and you shouldn't wait to use your strengths (dragon). And when Aegon arrives in Westeros, his conquest is swift and bold, just like he likes to play Cyvasse. He embraces his own strength instead of listening or waiting for someone else.

Fascinating discussion. I liked the Tyrion ADwD chapters when I first read them. I also don't really think they, or even the length of the books, are what is slowing him down. I don't think we can think of it as simple rate production. I would guess that it's more to do with his ambition for the story being hard to achieve. Hard to sell to the reader in a way he can feel confident of. I think certain of these ambitions led him to abandon the "5 year gap" because of the need to see certain stories in present tense and not flashback. Not out of self indulgence, but rather because dolling them out piecemeal at the right moment to motivate certain characters in the next phase of the story began to feel too heavy-handed and therefor at risk of losing the reader. So Tyrion ADwD is useful, beautiful filler, like a lot of those two books. Narratively treading water while deceptively important stories are told elsewhere.

On topic: Tyrion at this point in the books is a broken man, he murdered his father and a woman he loved and found out that he was betrayed by his brother. You talk about the beautiful descriptions of hills and rivers and how Tyrion is unaffected. Perhaps this is why. Perhaps this is supposed to subtly give us insight into his state of mind. He has always wanted to see this part of the world, from when he was a child.. yet when he finally does it simply passes by unnoticed, unappreciated. His lust for life is gone, he drinks and schemes and plots revenge. There's no colour in his world, no love.

Honestly i always had a problem with tyrion. People forget tyrion is becoming the very monster people say he is and he constantly says and does horrible things. Most people have rosy glasses due to the tv show version having a lot more charm and better looks so people have a disconnect Honestly it would have been better for tyrion to be sold away rather than be caught as he does get turned into a slave soldier anyways. Just have jorah be caught too as his ego kept him from leaving dany after being dismissed
@manmanman2000
@manmanman2000 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, he is becoming that monster but it is relatable and understandable given how people treat and treated him but then there are also those moments where he sacrifices himself to save FAegon, rides on Pretty Pig and is kind and caring to Penny, saves Jorah... there is still hope for him.
@ivanbluecool
@ivanbluecool 9 ай бұрын
@@manmanman2000hope exists for every character but the difference is wanting to change vs allowing those tendencies to win you over. Cerise and Tyrion are prime examples of this. Tyrion doesn't have to treat these people badly yet he does same as cersie letting her power go to her head and having kids with Jaime. Jaime meanwhile is growing as a person and cut ties with cerise. That's the difference between them. Tyrion will probably keep calling further especially with how he's still trying to play the sides as just a foot soldier with jorah

Tyrion has always been a nuisance to the people around him, and he is not half as clever as he thinks he is, he is mean and impolite and has an annoying level of entitlement. He is not blamed by everyone for Joffrey death because he is an ugly dwarf, he is blamed because he made so many enemies during his reign as Hand of the King that his enemies used this opportunity to pay him back. Antagonizing Joffrey, the King and his father the de facto Ruler, might feel good at the moment, but is stupidity in its purest form.

With Tyrion being mean to the slave then the prostitute, I think that shows a change in him. The 1st time could be seen as a result of his emotions at the time, when he does it again while being less emotionally stressed it shows that his delusions about being loved or wanted by these people are gone and he's now a much colder character, you could've cut the 1st one i suppose but then his appalling treatment of the 2nd would've been more surprising and out of character, I dunno 🤷🏻

While I understand the criticisms of how GRRM tends to drone on about things that are seemingly meaningless and don't push the story forward; I would say that it is a critique better applied to another writer. Only because, GRRM is on the record of saying that he wanted to write the story that he wanted to write, and I presume, the way he wants to write it. Such as droning on and spending what I think most people would agree, to be too much world building. But the fact that he is GRRM and not another writer lol, is probably the only explanation required. Someone else, who is trying to reach their own potential in the industry, has to worry more about such things as...moving the plot forward. I have to agree with you guys that GRRM is simply at a point in his career, where he is not burdened by such constraints. He's just going to do his thing the way he wants to, and it doesn't matter if it's how a story should or should not be written.

Going by sheer numbers of biomass the most likely story we would get would be about the photosynthesis of ocean dwelling algae. Still more interesting than the Bran plot. However it would appeal to very specific interests and those interested would want more detail than a hippie science fiction author can provide on the technical and biological details of algae photosynthesis.
