Who is going to end up on the Iron Throne? Who gives a shit?! Quaithe, Marwyn, and Sarella control the world. Anything hard to explain happen? Glass candle. Someone know something esoteric? Glass candle. Character thinks/makes a decision? Glass candle. Someone sleep and or dream? Glass candle. This doesn't make ASOIAF dumb as hell at all.

I'm a huge fan of Preston and I buy a lot of his theories but this issues with the telepatic abilities annoy me a lot. Glass candles, Bloodraven, Mormont's raven, the Children of the Forest, etc. There is always some great force acting behind the curtain and controlling everyone like the characters had no will of their own, qualities and flaws. Of course scheming is one of the major aspects of ASOIAF, but that does not mean that you have to suspect about literally anything. For example, he believes that Jon only befriended Sam because Ghost messed with Jon's mind. What's the evidence? Jon said that he hate cowards and Sam is a coward, so obviously it would be IMPOSSIBLE for him to like Sam. No, of course it's Ghost controlling Jon, there is no other possible answer. All this kind of theory does is take away all the depth in the story being told

I love the analysis as always. But I really think your underestimating the growth of Jaime's new Beard in the start of AFFC. Would it be impossible to say that they're are tiny insect/human type creatures burrowed deep in his new grown facial hair? And would it be crazy to think that those same creatures might be controlling his mind? Along with refusing Cerseis request, it would explain his bizarre decision to bet on Raff the Sweetling in the river jousting contest, as well as his illogical decision to not stick the spear up Shitmouth's arse in Harrenhall. Would it be to ridiculous that the creatures might be in league with Quaithe? I believe Varamir sixskins might be inside the consciousness of the lead tiny creature pulling the strings of Jaime's mind that lead to his ridiculous actions. Could Quaith and Varamir be in working together? Again, I'm probably wrong about half of this so I guess we'll have to wait for TWOW.

By incapacitating all the king's guards Doran is not forcing Cersei to pick Robert Strong, he is forcing her to pick Meryn Trant, at least until the death of Aerys reaches King's Landing, since Robert Strong is not yet in the king's guard, why bother incapacitating Boros Blount when Trant would be a better choice alltogether? The better choice after Loras flees, Osmund is captured, Arys killed and Balon sent away. Ofcourse Cersei would want Jaime to protect her, but he is likely the weaker of the king's guards and Blount is fat, old, and fears for his life.

first: the brave companions actually rode for miles before they cut off Jaime's hand. Just because it happens so fast and out of nowhere for the reader doesn't mean Roose's explanation is wrong. Jaime states that if both him and Brienne were armed they could take them on our at least kill a significant amount of people, so Vargo doesn't want to take that chance especially since Jaime is being REcaptured. now I know a crippled ransom is worth less than a whole ransom but this is Jaime Lannnister, Tywin will pay for him hand or no hand. by taking off the hand there's no way jaime can escape successfully so a crippled ransom is better than no ransom. lets not forget that vargo loves to cut off peoples limbs. the brave companions knew they had qyburn back at harrenhal, vargo did risk Jaimes life but only after traveling a couple miles back. your vargo theory would work had they cut off the hand immediately. Second: the line where Cersei notices trants illness was actually a mockery since trant was still mad he became a royal food tester. that's what happens when you dig too deep Preston, you end up with holes. p.s. the Tyrell stuff was a bit of a... REACH... I'm leaving now.

What do the Maesters/Oldtown/House Hightower get out of their relationship with Dorne/the Martells?
@gazrw26319958 жыл бұрын
If the Tyrells lose power then the Hightowers may have the opportunity to become the central power in the Reach. This may benefit Oldtown economically and provide greater funding and influence for the citadel. In return they keep the lords of the Dornish marches under control to ensure peace at the boarder. Also in the books it is stressed that Dorne is becoming dryer and more arid and that a healthy relationship between the Reach and Dorne may be vital for the people of Dornes survival.
@AlMeSeLo8 жыл бұрын
It is probably just Marwyn and Qybern who are helping Dorne, Qybern was stripped of his chains, and no one like Marwyn in the Citadel
@lazlow96408 жыл бұрын
+gareth williams As Preston has said, House Hightower may see the tyrell expansion in the florent lands as encroachment, Leyton Hightower could be working with doran, he is a necromancer after all, he could have a glass candle himself, Hightower rule in the Reach could result in some kind of alliance with Dorne, after all, most Houses north of Old town have lost most of their armed forces and the Tyrells and their forces are in the crownlands.
@joemullany76218 жыл бұрын
I think, and I think Preston believes this as well, that Marwyn is a renegade who has been working with the Martells for many years, unbeknownst to the other Maesters.
@marsstrider37058 жыл бұрын
The Maesters/Oldtown/House Hightower should be fundamentally opposed to Dorne/House Martell if Qyburn and Marwyn are on team Martell. The Maesters apparently are trying to eradicate magic while Marwyn is the premier world expert on it and is using a magic glass candle. Qyburn tried to become a Maester and got kicked out, so he is never going to be aligned with Team Hightower. Marwyn and Qyburn are going to align with anti-Citadel forces. If House Martell is aligning with House Hightower, Marwyn and Qyburn are going find someone else to side with. This all assumes Marwyn and Qyburn are in fact working for Doran.

Concerning Loras' removal and a possible Tyrell conspiracy I was a bit surprised that you forgot that Willas Tyrell, the heir to Highgarden, is a friend of Oberyn Martell despite being crippled by him. So it is not unreasonble to postulate that house Tyrell might in some part be in on the Dornish Masterplan, and purposefully removed Loras from Cersei's use. That would also help Margeary as Loras could just show up fit as a fiddle to fight for her in the trial.

Sam was so captivated that he nearly bumped a table with a mountain of books that at first view seem to hide a measter. Sam: I...I beg youre pardon Measter! Alleras : Dont mind him, old Measter Preston barely take his nose out of books unless its to expose one of hes crazy conpiracies.

"The dragon's mouth" is a metaphor Preston. They're saying he foolishly rode directly into the most dangerous part of the siege, like how charging at a dragon's mouth would be the most ridiculous way to try to approach it. The fact that it took place at a place called Dragonstone just adds an extra layer to the metaphor. Swords aren't ideal for use on horseback. He probably carried the sword in as a sidearm (most common use for swords by mounted knight) and used a flail-type morning star as his main weapon. If I'm correct about it being a flail-type morning star rather than a club-type morning star, then his swinging it over his head would also make sense since he could either be swinging in large arcs that go over his head to do overhand swings onto the top of the enemies heads or spinning the star over his own head to get it up to speed then performing an underhand swing to the chests or faces of his enemies. Also, they took the castle after his charge, just with heavy losses. They took him inside once they won.
@reyniknamyrion35575 жыл бұрын
There is a gate on Dragonstone in the shape of a dragon's mouth - it's described in the ACOK prologue. EDIT: Sorry. That's the door to the Great Hall. Cressen described the doorway is being in the shape of a dragon's mouth and 'steps into the dragon's maw' to approach the feast.

If we go by The World of Ice and Fire image the gate to Dragonstone is indeed a Dragon's head.

Wayoo! 'Book Preston' back before episode 10. Ser Preston is not a man but a machine. Can't wait for the next 'watch'. I have a serious Q&A...also Varys managed to get a hold of that teleporter the sand snakes and littlefinger's been using!

Oh Preston, can you "The Deeper Reach" please?

What do you mean, he reaches very deep in almost every one of his theory videos. He's Lord Paramount of Reaching at this point.

I just had a fun thought, will Qyburn (on Doran's orders) have Robert Strong kill Tommen and rape and kill Cersei as a parallel vengeance for what the Mountain did to Elia and Aegon?

I'm confused. Osmund is the Kettleblack who's in the Kingsguard, but wasn't it Osney that Cersei confessed to bedding? Or both? Cersei definitely bedded Osney and he was the one who was supposed to take the black, kill Jon, and get pardoned: ""We waited long enough." He (Osney) thrust his fingers inside the bodice of her gown and yanked, and the silk parted with a ripping sound so loud that Cersei was afraid that half of the Red Keep must have heard it. "Take off the rest before I tear that too," he said. "You can keep the crown on. I like you in the crown."" I wonder if that last line was inspired by Randy Newman's "you can keep your hat on"

That's right. We know 100% that Cersei banged Osney, but then she confesses to banging Osmund and Osfryd despite there being little previous indication of sex. There is a small part of me that thinks that Cersei confessed to something she didn't do, but in all probability she banged all three brothers.

Thanks for clearing this up, Preston. I've only read the books through once so far, and I remember being really confused about this point. Like you fucked... who? Had me feeling like I was taking crazy pills.

so Qyburn simultaneously makes a terrible master of whisperer because he only has a couple sources near kings landing, and meanwhile knows every detail that people are dreaming about via glass candle spying?

Every trope attributable to the Faceless Men can also be applied to Varys; he is a mummer, master of disguise, spymaster and assassin. Martin has been very subtle about this, but you cannot escape the similarities between Arya's training and the skills that Varys employs all the time. Varys also had a lot of influence in the prisons beneath the Red Keep, giving him a connection to Jaqen, Rorge and Biter. Do you believe Varys is a Faceless Man or at the very least working with them? You've already indicated that the Faceless Men are working in favor of Aegon.

My long-held belief about the Loras/Tyrell conspiracy is that Aurane Waters always intended to build his ships and dip, whether it is to deliver the fleet to Stannis, fAegon, or use them for his own pirating. Naturally he needs to take his (stolen) fleet past the Redwyne Fleet in the Gullet. His ships are superior to Redwyne's ships one-on-one, but a nearly 20-1 disadvantage in warships alone means he cannot risk a battle. So he needs to leave, meanwhile Redwyne wants to get back home to protect his holdings in the Arbor. The Tyrells overall want to restore order to the Reach. With Garlan on his way to the Sheilds and Willas unable to lead soldiers, Mace's remaining son is Loras. Loras is likely no longer serving a purpose for the Tyrells on the Kingsguard, since he has been forbidden to interact with Tommen anymore and the city is swarming with Tyrell men to keep Margaery safe. What I think happened was that Redwyne and Loras made off for the Arbor and Oldtown (whether they took Dragonstone or not really does not matter much, and if they did they likely promised it to Aurane Waters) and they allowed Aurane Waters to steal the Royal Fleet so long as he reported Loras as being maimed or else otherwise unable to return to the Red Keep any time soon.

I think Tommen doesn't seem poisoned because it is Tywin who was being poisoned by Oberyn. It's logical to think Boros who be taste tester for both the King and the Hand, also he seems to be showing the signs of a man rotting from the inside. His condition is another subtle hint at Oberyn's real plan if it weren't for the Mountain's Gallagher routine on his head and Tyrion's crossbow.
