Agreed. Also I think a lot of people watch just to see the city be built so I think the lore 2nd treats it a little more as bonus content for those who are interested, which I think it is.

Personally I watch your videos for your creativity and awesome city building, and I do not really care very much for the story behind places. That said, I have no qualms with how you decided to format the video and what you discuss; however, I would suggest to “flip” the segments. By showing what the city is like in the beginning and what you created removed a sense of anticipation-it “spoils” the time lapse section seeing you make something great. Also, I was a big fan of the “inspiration station” aspect of your precious videos. A tweak to the format I would recommend: - quick and brief overview of what you are building and why (basically a 2-3 min summary of the first segment) - traditional timelapse like in the second segment - segment 1 - concluding statements I think the above format maintains everything you are trying to accomplish while also not “spoiling” too much of what you built, thus maintaining anticipation and interest through the entire video.

@@PresCities Well, there was nothing wrong about inspiration station in the first place--the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" adage is applicable here. Nonetheless, my personal suggestion would be to give some intro cinematic showing the area somewhat half-way finished. I think you could make something unique by beginning the cinematics with the build actually half-way done with the road layouts already in place but not much more than. Personally if I were a content creator with the same objectives, I would also go so far as to even place light detailing down to show that the area didn't spring up from nowhere--of course if you are specifically making a new development like an outer-ring suburb, that is not necessary. By skipping the road layout of the traditional time-lapse you are increasing the story-telling value by showing that this was a real area that is being developed as it would naturally in the real-world. During these first few minutes I imagine you obviously speaking over the area briefly describing the area's background, what you would like to achieve in the project, and then maybe a couple real-world examples if you are inclined. Alternatively, you could also think of it in terms of an academic paper whereby the intro gives very brief background to hook the audience (such as X is the problem and this is why), sets up the theory (in this case, how you are going to show X via the game), and then leads into the time-lapse.

The cinematics sometimes seem to have a flat lighting, it looks like you don't even have shadows on. I would personally shoot them with the sun a bit lower to get more interesting shadows. I think it'd bring out the terrain a little more too. Some Painted Lady Victorians here and there, some old timey gas station/auto shops, Safeway grocery store trucks, a cannabis shop, amazon vans, CR England semi with trailer, hobo tents, and some history on freeway expansion? Nice. Looks like the east bay. Starting to look like Oakland headed east out near Highway 24 and Rockridge/Bart.

I've just binged this series and you're now my favourite C:S KZbinr! And I think the new format is great - so casting my vote in favour of that ^^ btw I'd love to see you build a "utopian" city - i.e. what would you build if politics didn't get in the way? Maybe even just a newer development in part of Cabrillo built with modern and progressive ideas on urban planning... it's really interesting to imagine what cities could look like if we had things like labour rights, more cooperatives, UBI, direct democracy, actually decent social housing / more housing co-ops etc.

I was actually in the actual Cabrillo this week. Neat little place in Mendocino. A couple of things that would be cool: - Wineries. They're everywhere over NorCal/Oregon and would make for some nice work for the rural areas. It would also be fitting for a small town focused almost exclusively on wine and B&B (you know what I'm referring to) to be in the outskirts of the Cabrillo area. But also, to focus on the huge migrant populations in those areas, by clearly showing some divide between the rich Enotourism areas and the poor, overworked farm worker settlements. AFAIK No one's really done this industry justice in C:S. - Corporate Campuses in some sort of Edge City. Also very typical, but also very underdone in C:S. - If we're building homeless encampments, make sure to blend in some sort of food bank. Love this series otherwise. It's the most far reaching series on actual Urban Planning concepts and things in C:S I've seen so far.

Yes to all of this! They could all tie really well into the community activism themes of Cabrillo. So maybe there's a conflict in the city over whether to attract a multinational to build a new corporate campus (sort of how some communities were divided or resistant to the proposed Amazon HQ2). Plus how the wineries dealt with prohibition could be a fun way of fleshing out Cabrillo's history.

I greatly enjoyed the new format, but agree with others; the build first please. Besides that, when you start talking about the area's and their history, please mark the features you're talking about. Where do the neighbourhoods stop, where was the streetcar and where are the avenues. Might as well mark the highway, although that is much easier to spot.

Really enjoyed the new format! The worldbuilding you're doing is fantastic, and again, it's a really interesting dive into US municipal politics. Chicano Park is such a fantastic inspiration, and the community story of Peralta is just brilliant. The guy who kept the bricks, for example, sounds like a brilliant member of the community. The stuff on microenterprises was really important, as that's an issue often ignored. Perhaps if there is a debate about renaming some big piece of public infrastructure in Cabrillo (so how there is currently that big push to stop honoring Confederate generals and the like), maybe Inez Clemente could be the proposed renaming? Also if she served in Congress, maybe there's a couple of big local projects that she secured funding for that still stand? One thing I'd love to see are more ethnic enclaves, because they really do help distinguish cities. One thing I find really fascinating is when there is a community that was previously the centre of one ethnic community, but while it retains its historical importance to that community, there is now a new community that is making it its home as well. So for example, how there are places in Michigan that were once home to big Polish populations, and still have lots of big institutions and historic churches and so on, but now are centres of Arab communities. So there's new mosques next to old churches, Polish and Arabic store signs next to each other, that kind of thing. Another, and this could tie well into the themes of activism throughout the series, is how there are some places that have a population, of refugees and their descendants, that is almost unique in the US. So Minnesota's big Somali and Hmong populations, for instance.

I know you are studying urban planning and therefore it is only natural you wanna talk about it. But all that history and information stuff just feels kind of pointless to someone like me, who primarily wants to enjoy the beauty of the game that is C:S. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I miss the good times where the reason of a build didn’t have to be realism but also the fact that it just looked freakin cool:) I’m yet to find the heartbeat of this series and hope I will find it❤️

Enjoyed the history part, but feel it can really be tightened up a bit. However I feel It was way too long. The structure is more planned out now, which is good, but this is a city builder game and that is what most might be coming here for… the building and creativity. Time lapse and building should still make up the majority of the video. Not saying the history and lore is not interesting, but keep it tighter and add it after the time laps. That way we can see the finished product and the results and history won’t just spoil everything.

I feel like your viewer base is split into two main categories: those interested in the creative process and quirks or building a city and those who are much more interested in the political side of things. I think it is pretty much impossible to please both so just do whatever is more fun for you to make. I'll keep watching either way.

I really enjoy the details, histories and politics you get into with the backstories of each neighborhood. This is a unique way to present your build as far as I know. Please keep it coming, I really look forward to all your videos.

Just wanna say don't listen to the people telling you not to talk about politics. Urban design is and has always been political, and you are right to talk about it
