It's nice to see that I'm not the only one who fantasy shops at a regular, just to see what tickles my fancy and then shops their stash. The last couple weeks I was convinced I needed a blue palette, so I went through all my palettes and swatched the blues amongst them. I think a whole forearm of blues should be enough and that desire is fulfilled.
@NatalieValentina6 Жыл бұрын
I recently had that same gnawing in me for blue, as well. After playing in my collection, I can't even BELIEVE how many blue shadows I have, that I didn't even remember. I've never been a blue shadow girlie, so they were all purchased incidentally, as part of broader color-stories that I loved.

Great idea ladies. I often fantasy shop but never then turn to my stash, let alone narrow it down further by finding all of a particular shade/product that own just to see if I need it. I do that with skin care and sunscreen (check what I have before I buy), even groceries 😂, so why not cosmetics? If thyme will substitute for rosemary in a recipe then chantecaille will do nicely instead of PMG Labs right?

Hannah, I would love a video about hooded eyes and how to do eyeshadow with them (techniques/products/brushes/tips etc.) Every time I pick up a singe shadow I have such hope and then end up having the exact experience you described about making your eyes look small- so then I try to take the shadow up higher and then it just gets messy. Help!!! Your eyeshadow always looks so fabulous- even when you go for that more messy/grungey look it looks planned and not accidental lol

I've never caught the online shopping bug for anything. My love of shopping in person - the thrill of the hunt - keeps me within budget most of the time. I have to go no buy this first quarter; except for replacing mascara and my tinted SPF when they're outdated or just plain empty, I know I've got lots of duplication of product types and especially colors in my collection. So let's see how I do! Thanks for your shares and frank talk, it's so needed!

This resonates with my recent experience with clothes so much! The more I progress into no-buy, the more I notice how little I actually desire, in that I keep browsing and momentarily wanting items that I later realise I have a slight different version of. It made me realise that chasing the slight altered version are just temporary flares sprung up by marketing tactics. And I just love the mental clarify the no-buy rules offer, so I wouldn’t fall for the temporary flare with very real price (tags) 😅

I LOVE your videos!!! Not only do you have great content, but you make me think about my collection. Thank you for being here!
@whitevine9544 Жыл бұрын
Hannah, I have to say, I love this kind of content. I think after your declutter late last year, you're content is going to be very balanced between minimalism and reviews. I think that's great because there's a lot of us needing less consuming and more appreciating and using what we have. We do need balance between spending on beautiful things and enjoying what we have. I think this year for you would be called the year of balance and contentment if you were to call it anything. I do understand you are still receiving pr and reviewing makeup, but you're on KZbin, it's apart of the job as you have said. You're not living a life outside of KZbin and that makes the whole balance thing great for content for the viewers. You can say what works and how and give feedback, but also say things like "it's just eyeshadow" and you don't have to buy things on your wishlist, but just shop your stash instead. Being on a no-buy this year may just be perfect for me between your content, your mindset and the changes I want to come naturally from my no-buy. I want my relationship with makeup to be different even though still early in it I'm thinking about things to buy next year, but you were in the same boat in 2018. You wanted to buy The Star Palette and other things. I think it's ok for me to want right now. I'm just a half month into this. What happens down the road in the rest of the year will be interesting for me, but I know I'm not breaking this no-buy. I'm too invested in this to break it.

I had major abdominal surgery last year, I bought a house coat or as I call it, a mumu & I LOVE it, it's all cotton, it zips closed so I don't have to worry about flashing anyone, it was perfect for what I needed. A couple weeks after I had an 'incident' where my beloved mumu was ruined, I immediately hopped on amazon & bought a second one in the same print. I was able to clean the first one, so I now have 2 in the exact same print & I love them both, I wear them interchangeably & since I am disabled, I spend a lot of time in it, so it makes sense for me to have 2. BUT, I know had I purchased the second one in a different print, I would gravitate towards one or the other.

Currently my jeans when hung on the bottom bar take up the same amount of space as my curated collection of tops? 🤔 None of the jeans are the same but iterations of the same? I love jeans and hit a wall when trying to get rid of those? So I moved on to makeup to give myself a break? Or procrastinate? 🤔 Thanks Hannah! 💗

Hey all! Regarding powder highlighters? (I actually thought you'd do the following, HLP, and was surprised when you didn't. ) If you have a Mothership palette, the "Skinshow" shades double as highlighters on most skintones. If you're more adventurous with your glow needs, same goes for some of "The Special Shades". This all depending on which 'ship you have, what your undertones and preferences are, etcetera. Many of the shadows can also be used as blushes, contour, bronzers, or brow fillers. If you can afford to grab one or two during a sale, after careful analysis of tones, depth, and shades? They're totally worth the investment. You can also sometimes find gently-used or even brand-new Motherships on Poshmark, and sanitize the pans. With luck, one or two of those palettes can eliminate the need for at least 5 different pieces of makeup. Lots of love!

It's honestly shocking how effective social media and beauty influencers have been in the makeup space. This isn't meant to be critical (it applies to me as well), but makeup is such a weird product to buy in excess. We have one face, and out of those who even have an interest in makeup, most of us don't have a lifestyle that warrants or allows for a variety of makeup looks -- ie we don't have the time, or it doesn't make sense for our work settings, hobbies, and leisure activities. The level of makeup consumption is so high for what seems like a relatively niche interest. I rarely see people wearing anything but simple makeup looks, if they're even wearing it at all. But I'll bet many of those people own a bunch of glittery and colorful cosmetics they never use, like I do 🙄

Totally! I commented on anothet channel with a 2 part eyeshadow declutter. Like no shade at all, but I have 6 palettes and it already seems like an excessive amount. I have the colors that are needed for most looks I see, and I can blend my way towards just about anything I want to try that isn't super out there. Is the appeal different formulas? Or just the pleasure of buying beautiful fun things?

I bought two Natasha Denona palettes for Black Friday and some of the regular shimmers are not that shimmery and more satin. That works well for work, but I am finding myself in this dark and vampy mood makeup wise with shimmery eyes that are shimmery, not satin. And I was viewing my two Natasha Denona palettes there for a short while as my precious, but I'm feeling that go away with the newness of the palettes wearing off. I don't regret my purchase of the palettes, I love so many of the colors, but I'm looking at those satins and just saying "they're just eyeshadow" like Hannah said in her Lisa Eldridge review. I think another thing that helps with the newness wearing off is I made an expanded dupe palette with my own twist for Pat McGrath's Mothership X. Some of the eyeshadows in their are so shimmery and beautiful and they are from what I already have. I think shopping our stash is a great way to see the beauty in what we have. I'm definitely enjoying what I own. I'm on a makeup no-buy this year, so appreciating what I have is a must for me.

And I haven’t even went through those two products in a year. That told me that if I really want something for complexion, I’ll just put some money towards it and when I finish one of my products, I’ll allow myself to buy a new one. It can either be a replacement or a different one. I found that had slowed down my spending a lot.

I love this idea! I always have a fantasy cartful at Sephora. I haven't had access to a Sephora, either in person or online, for a couple of years because I was living in the Balkans. Last month I was in a city with a Sephora. But you know what? Even though I spent over $200 there I didn't even think of checking what was in my shopping cart! I missed a couple of key items that I probably would have loved. But the lesson learned is that I spent way more than I should and still experience disappointment because of the couple of items I didn't buy. So, this idea of just pretending to shop at Sephora by using my own stuff is going to be my new mantra in the future. The next time I have access to a Sephora store I will just shrug it off and shop my sash again.

Hey Hannah, some of your recent pretending to shop content/new makeup release videos have actually brought to my attention some products I'd love to try but don't want to gamble on (as a consumer and not a reviewer I really feel the sting when something doesn't work). We have the same skin value and tone, and I was wondering if you would try the ELF color corrector(I've heard the blue is a good mix-in for foundations that are yellow to make them go olive and I know you already had some interest in the green) and trying the new NARS soft matte powder. I like powder to have a sheer but still-there color, and be blurring but not drying/completely mattifying- so I'd love to know if it's a fit! I figured I'd ask

It wouldn't seem like the best idea to build fantasy carts to help with a no buy, but it works for me. It has legitimately stopped me from making dozens if not hundreds of purchases. I think because my collection is so big & contains everything & anything I could possibly ever want or need, I just miss the fun of shopping for cosmetics? So building fantasy carts & then abandoning them satiates that. I know it doesn't work for everyone, & can be potentially tricky for someone trying to avoid impulse buying. Btw, that oe highlight is the only one I picked up from that launch & it's so pretty in the compact but I just don't use it & idk why! It looks absolutely lovely on you. I might have to give it another chance 💜✨

I frequently fantasy shop. Make a cart, then do more research, look at what I already have, then don't feel the need to press buy. Its fun.
