Vic and his crew made every effort to use the same shooting style and music as TOS. Since Jimmy Doohan's son Chris played Scotty, it was a real passing of the torch... RIP, Grant Imahara...

I agree. It’s a shame it was stoped by corporate greed.
@davfree973210 ай бұрын
Aye. However ST:C did bridge the gap between TOS and TMP. To continue on would require sets of the TMP and TOS era mixing until we got to TMP. That would require a bigger budget that I don't think they have. It's why TOS is so accessible and iconic. In the modern day, anyone can build a Connie bridge. They don't because they don't need to... but if they did it would be the easiest set to build.

CBS foolishly stopped the making of this expression of love for the show they own. Were they attempting to avoid embarrassment at being upstaged by these talented fans? Great stories.
@HardyGirl6610 ай бұрын
Actually no. Another production, (NOT STC) raised money to make a Star Trek fan film movie, and never made it. They instead used the money to pay themselves salaries and buy a building to start a production company all in the name of Star Trek. CBS/P sued them and all other fan films were collateral damage. Star Trek Continues supports CBS/P's right to protect their license and is grateful they got to finish the "original" 5 year mission.

Really appreciated everything that went into making Star Trek Continues. You really captured the spirt of the original series. Scripts were fresh and tightly written. The cast was honest to the characters and talented. Special effects superb. And not enough words to describe the sets. Special guest stars and voices were the icing on the cake. Much better work than some of the newer spinoffs. And all fan based. A big tip of the hat.

To clarify a point Vic made during the stop in Engineering: Star Trek was one of the most expensive shows on television at the time, but not *THE* most expensive. Mission: Impossible was also up there, and Mannix was actually a bit more. The difference is that those shows had better ratings, and were deemed worth the cost, whereas Star Trek, while its ratings were actually rather respectable, weren't high enough to justify the high costs. If it were pulling in Gunsmoke or Bonanza level numbers, that would've been a different story, and they would've gotten those 4th and 5th seasons, and probably more.
@smatejka110 ай бұрын
And another point is both ST and MI were Desilu productions, so they had 2 of the most expensive shows in production at the same time, further straining the studio’s resources.
