Your video just popped up on my screen & it was great to see your updates to a turn of the century apartment. I used to live at 440 Riverside Drive & 116th in a corner apartment over looking the river & 116th. The most wonderful years were spent there, my friend still lives there since she was a student at Barnard in the early 70’s in her early days she & roommates called it the Bonanza. It is really huge, 3 bedrm, maids quarters w/half bath, tiny eat in kitchen, nice entry w/French doors into a lovely small room for the tv. It has a gigantic living room & dining area, 2 bath long hallway to the bedrooms overlooking Riverside. The outside of the building curves replicating the apartment bldg on the other side of 116th & Riverside & big lobby w/doormen. In ‘99 it was $1500 rent stabilized. I’m forwarding you video to my friend and another in Albany w/a 1800’s house with similar style. Can’t wait to view your past videos & see your upcoming home. Your terrific!

This apartment is gorgeous and I really wish there were more properties like this in the UK. However, its so strange, as a Brit, to hear someone describe a building from 1908 as old. More than half the houses in the UK were built pre 1900 and my local pub was built in the 1500's, and thats just the oldest pub in my town, let alone the country,
@PrettyinthePines3 жыл бұрын
I love that though. A lot of buildings in this city are brand new. Some old. So relatively speaking, this one is old. But compared to some, it’s not.
@rebel10133 жыл бұрын
Well this isn't the UK...America, as you should be well aware, is a new country.
@aprilm95513 жыл бұрын
I'm American, but adore a quirky British comedian named Eddie Izzard. This idea of "old" architecture in America vs that in the UK reminds me of brief part of one of his shows. I think he's joking about a town in Florida, where they are praising a building, and saying it's "50.... yeeaars .... oolllddd !!" (I tried to add the emphasis to the words that Eddie put). It's of course funny as is most of the material in his shows. But, everything is relative, so here in the US, something that's ~120 years old is quite old. : )

I love your wall space ideas!! I've in a Victorian Village by the water. For the smaller kitchen you'll be moving into, I have some kitchen hacks I use that "make" more space. Vertical spoon holder sturdy enough to hold lids also. Under cabinet hooks. I do this for my coffee space. Also a couple hooks for small, I-use-everyday pots. Magnetic shelf to hold anything on fridge. I use for a few spices, salt & pepper grinders and small olive oil decanter. I also added a stainless steal for the top of stove. I love this. For spoon rest and other little things (my measuring cups). Its magnetic also. Big kitchens are not usually convenient or well spaced. I had so many, my favorite kitchens are small kitchens. I used to cook for large groups in my tiny kitchen. It was so efficient. All the best!
