Your video just popped up on my screen & it was great to see your updates to a turn of the century apartment. I used to live at 440 Riverside Drive & 116th in a corner apartment over looking the river & 116th. The most wonderful years were spent there, my friend still lives there since she was a student at Barnard in the early 70’s in her early days she & roommates called it the Bonanza. It is really huge, 3 bedrm, maids quarters w/half bath, tiny eat in kitchen, nice entry w/French doors into a lovely small room for the tv. It has a gigantic living room & dining area, 2 bath long hallway to the bedrooms overlooking Riverside. The outside of the building curves replicating the apartment bldg on the other side of 116th & Riverside & big lobby w/doormen. In ‘99 it was $1500 rent stabilized. I’m forwarding you video to my friend and another in Albany w/a 1800’s house with similar style. Can’t wait to view your past videos & see your upcoming home. Your terrific!

You did such an amazing job - and in a relatively short time.. You put so much work into it & I can't believe you have to take it all down now! It's making me tired just thinking about it! Lol! But I'm sure your new space will be wonderful as well....Can't wait to see how you transform that one! Also, I live in a prewar building - 1926 - up in Westchester & I really got some great inspiration from your finished space - so thank you!!

How adorable and so so creative! Every wall has something to look at and it's just so cute. Love the mantels, pictures, mirrors and how you decorate it. Yes, the biggest thing I would miss would be those French doors and windows that lets in so much light! You know your breakfast nook could be turned into like a little sitting area to look out while you're reading a book and soaking in the sunshine. Also, love the Ikea closet organizer which you left open and believe it's aesthetically pleasing and forces you to keep it tidy and organized. Love it!

I just came across this video on my feed and decided to watch it! I am amazed because as renters, you really made it into something like a permanent home. I wish I have the same creative drive like you because I'm divided when it comes to making changes to the apartment I'm renting. As renters, I dont want to commit to making changes knowing it is not my permanent home and the money put into something temporary. I do enjoy watching what other people do to their homes because it gives me some inspiration as to what I want when I do find a permanent home.

This apartment is gorgeous and I really wish there were more properties like this in the UK. However, its so strange, as a Brit, to hear someone describe a building from 1908 as old. More than half the houses in the UK were built pre 1900 and my local pub was built in the 1500's, and thats just the oldest pub in my town, let alone the country,
@PrettyinthePines

I'm American, but adore a quirky British comedian named Eddie Izzard. This idea of "old" architecture in America vs that in the UK reminds me of brief part of one of his shows. I think he's joking about a town in Florida, where they are praising a building, and saying it's "50.... yeeaars .... oolllddd !!" (I tried to add the emphasis to the words that Eddie put). It's of course funny as is most of the material in his shows. But, everything is relative, so here in the US, something that's ~120 years old is quite old. : )

I love your wall space ideas!! I've in a Victorian Village by the water. For the smaller kitchen you'll be moving into, I have some kitchen hacks I use that "make" more space. Vertical spoon holder sturdy enough to hold lids also. Under cabinet hooks. I do this for my coffee space. Also a couple hooks for small, I-use-everyday pots. Magnetic shelf to hold anything on fridge. I use for a few spices, salt & pepper grinders and small olive oil decanter. I also added a stainless steal for the top of stove. I love this. For spoon rest and other little things (my measuring cups). Its magnetic also. Big kitchens are not usually convenient or well spaced. I had so many, my favorite kitchens are small kitchens. I used to cook for large groups in my tiny kitchen. It was so efficient. All the best!

As a native New Yorker, born raised and still living (stayed during the pandemic), for the people not from here that are saying it’s expensive, it’s not common for couples to have a two bedroom. Couples are usually in 1 bedrooms. They also have a lot of stuff compared to the “average” New Yorker.

I'm completely blown away at how beautiful and cozy and homy you have made your apartment. It is just so inviting and the attention to detail is what I think really kicks it up a notch from the average apartments that I have seen. I can't wait to follow you on your journey to your next place and see how you decorate again. The wall moulding is now something that I am seriously seriously considering in my place. I would also absolutely love to buy a similar mantle but sadly I don't currently have the space for it. Will definitely be putting that on my wish list though for my next place!

I love your style! If I were your landlord I would want you to leave all the extra things that you have done to the apartment because it would rent out so much better due to how pretty you’ve made it! Can’t wait to see your NEW place after you’ve moved in!!! Happy New Year!

Oh my gosh. Your apartment is gorgeous - specially compared to what it was before! I live in a 1900's building in the UWS as well and I'm amazed at all the tips and tricks you were able to pull off. Definitely using this for inspiration and thank you for linking your pieces on your blog - super helpful!

Ha !! People asked about the rent price... she carefully skirted the question by saying the pricing of other apartments with the same or similar floor plans.
