Because there’s gonna be a lot of people there probably fighting over things, you shouldn’t make things too cheap (except for maybe the Wish stuff like you mentioned). A lot of the stuff is like basically brand new, sold out, and still has its tags on it. If someone REALLY loves one of your items, they will be willing to spend their money on it

Yes! Keep the prices high! After all, this is for charity, and not for a standard de-clutter backyard/ car-boot sale. If people are there, they should be willing to pay a reasonable amount for the clothing, because they want to donate and gain something, not because they want a bargain.

Agreed 100%!! One should never get rid of sentimental things. I've got a Felix the Cat shirt my last ex bought me 10 years ago. Even though I don't like him after the break up I still have that shirt. One, because it's cute & two because he took the time to actually buy it for me. (along with various jewelry from ex's lol. Mom always said never give the jewelry back... unless it belonged to their mother or grandma)

Aw, that's sweet. I have an old raggedy tee that was what my husband wore in the first photo I ever saw of him (ah, internet romance in the late 90's...that jpeg was less than 100 kb and probably took me like 5 minutes to download.) I love the idea of having a picture with the buyer, though--it's another way to bring up the memories associated with a special item and even adds another layer of special-ness (plus photos are much easier to store). Even better if the sweater gets another life with its new owner...maybe whoever does checkout can be told to flag Alex down when the sweater goes by, or she could write a special tag for it asking for a photo of the sweater in its next life.

I feel like more people should be donating to the victims. Everyone gives to the firefighters-which is important-but I think we’re forgetting about all the people who’ve lost their homes and belongings.
@ReptilianTeaDrinker
@ReptilianTeaDrinker 4 жыл бұрын
What about the poor animals, then? The ones who have also died or are suffering from burns or have lost their homes in nature? I donated to the wildlife. I mean, yeah, human victims I feel sorry for as well, but as an animal lover, I donated my money to the animals and it's not like all of us are rich and can give money to everyone. Sorry, but just being blunt with you. Also, no one has forgotten the people who have lost their homes, etc. But giving money to the firefighters is important because the quicker and more efficiently they put out the fires, less lives will be lost or less homes will be burnt to an absolute crisp. It's about priority. Of course, no life is more important than the other, but the reason people give to firefighters is because they're the ones actually putting out the fires. lol If they put out fires, then less victims. It's common sense. There are actually people who donate to the victims, so don't complain. Also, maybe you should donate instead of sitting here, being negative.

Lainey & Nicholas Poelzer I guess it’s the way people perceive it 😊 it’s like when I go to a charity event and they say “donation to get in $-“. It’s non-optional and non negotiable. That means if you want to come to the event - it’s not free. You have to pay admission ... it’s just called “donation”. In my opinion ... donations have always been a choice or option. In my mind - if there is no choice or option given it’s the minimum price. Granted - sometimes events have to call things donations because of taxes... however, because this is the selling of merchandise ... I’m not sure it seems fair to say... minimum donation + whatever else you want to donate. It doesn’t make sense to me 😂

Also keep in mind this event isn't just to "give" people stuff, the point it to actually RAISE money for the fund. So even though it would be nice to give everyone a nice deal it's even nicer that they get a high quality item and the money goes to HELP all those poor people & animals. If anything people should pay as much as they can just to help! Have cute jars or something all around the venue that say EVERY SINGLE CENT (or whatever your smallest denomination is) COUNTS!! So folks can toss in any spare change they may have. You would be surprised how quickly even that can add up. Most of all have FUN! Thank you for doing this! You are AMAZING! Charity donations to one state can't be shared/used in another state, and so many people don't know that! While it's great that people are donating, especially the millions accumulated from celebrities, a lot of it is going to helping only NSW instead of other states that are also experiencing devastating fires and loss!

@Charlotte Mills It takes more land to feed everyone on a vegan diet than it would on a animal and plant based diet though. Which would cause more starving people, even higher prices on fruits and vegetables, and/or more deforestation. I don't really know how that would "help prevent future fires" farther than the deforestation thing. Sure there are some things like greenhouse gases but veganism doesn'thelp the environment... Especially since it could completely throw off food cycles and lead to some species growing too large in population while making others too small. Our soil on Earth isn't fertile or healthy enough to feed everyone. Plus, eating meat is just a basic part of the food chain and our evolution. Nothing wrong with being a vegan or vegetarian, but the environmental impact is not as great as people seen to think it would be. I personally believe killing animals for food is fine cause, well, the circle of life man. Though my own line is crossed when people kill animals for fun. Either way, yeah. Veganism isn't really a great way to help our environment.

Hi Alex! In case it hasn’t been mentioned already, I would like to recommend donating some funds to Wildlife Victoria. As WIRES is a NSW based charity, they cannot share their donations with any other interstate wildlife charity (which sounds crazy to me, but hey that’s our government!). While the majority of the fires are occurring in NSW, a fair bit of land in VIC has been affected and the animals here need some help too 😊 thank you so much for organising all of this and using your platform to not only raise awareness but also aid in the Bushfire relief charities 😊

Love you Alex! Coming from Western Australia here, learning about the absolute devastation of the Eastern side of Australia breaks my heart and pools fear into the idea of our western side going up in flames as well. I'm so proud and appreciative of you to be donating and working hard to help our firefighters. Thankyou so so much, keep it up, you're doing wonders for our fellow Australians.

Shape wear is your best friend when you have a dress you love but you don't love the way your tummy, thighs, or hips look in that dress. It doesn't matter what your age is or what size you wear, shape wear can make all the difference. Anyway, I think it is so great that you are trying to help everyone.

When people say sorry I can't do more it bugs me. So many people will be helped by your donation no matter how small!! Think about it like this, your one dollar will buy a gallon of water for the firefighters or a packet of sterile gauze to dress animal's burns!!! Thanks for raising money to everyone who is helping.

If you ever do this again, a question worth asking yourself is "Will you miss it?" This helps especially in the case of sentimental items, where you keep them because you're attached to them, but if they weren't there then you wouldn't be sad about their absence.

(I'm not actually coming to the event due to living on a different continent but...) If you want the clothes to be affordable but also to raise decent money, I'd say to price the $70-$80 AUD jeans around $30...? $40 also seems perfectly reasonable to me because it's for charity, but may not be quite so affordable, especially if a lot of the people who are coming to the event are young.

Another question to ask when cleaning out closets “do you remember it?” I always have a lot of stuff I can’t remember where I got it or last wore or saw it it’s obviously not important and needs to go. Also if it still has tags and I’ve owned for more than a month, gotta go.
