As someone who works in the fashion industry I will say not everything made in China is badly made or cheap materials. There are great factories and suppliers providing high end production, ethical working environment and high quality materials. Just like everything it’s not a black and white situation with production.
@notpointed
@notpointed 4 жыл бұрын
Of course there are high end producers in China. Otherwise there wouldn't exist high end clothing in the world. The problem isn't really the quality, the problem is that Chinese workers are still massively underpaid while the shareholders are massively overpaid.

I was just about to write a similar comment. There is highly skilled labor in China that just doesn't exist in America for example. Good luck finding people who can complete intricate hand beading on an item without going to India or China. I work for a bridal dress company and the owners are Chinese and Korean, they custom built a state of the art factory with dormitories to make sure they could provide a safe and comfortable place to work.

monica kim well the only way to change this stigma is for brands to be transparent about the production of their clothing and so many hide it. While some brands do have ethically sourced labor in China, many do not. I really want brands to be more transparent so I hope this starts happening.
@bookofdaisy9124
@bookofdaisy9124 4 жыл бұрын
@@cozymonica Yes, things can absolutely be produced ethically in China. But these huge luxury brands obviously don't do that. Out of every 50 luxury clothing brands, how many would you bet are using ethical, humane, fair labour? Maybe 1, probably even less. If a brand uses ethical labour to make their clothes, they ALWAYS explicitly say so, because that gives them great press and brings in even more sales. So if a brand doesn't say that they use humane labour, you 100% know that they don't. Until these luxury brands change, we're gonna keep assuming that something made in China is produced unethically unless specifically stated otherwise. It's unfortunate but that's just how we have to approach that industry.
@neenstreet
@neenstreet 4 жыл бұрын

I would like to point out that silk is always harvested in an unethical manner, thus it is not "ethically sourced" and there is no such thing as ethically sourced silk. To get silk, thousands of silk worms are killed so that the cocoon they produce can be unraveled and turned into the silk fibers. Sustainable, yes technically since it is a natural fiber... ethical, unfortunately no. I do agree however that it is indeed possible for clothing to be produced ethically and sustainably in China.

She should have said "pretty normal price for *designer* sneakers." Because lemme tell you... as someone who has hip and knee problems, I cannot tell you how much difference it makes to spend some money on a GOOD pair of sneakers for your feet. I used to cringe if a pair cost more than $50 and I couldn't understand anyone who paid more than that... Then I paid more than that. $120 for a pair of sneakers from a locally owned shoe store where the employee who helped me listened to what I was struggling with (foot pain, hip, and knee pain, from standing for long periods of time on concrete floors) and oh my GOD the difference those good shoes made.... You wouldn't really know by looking at them, but they have made a WORLD of difference. And I only just finally replaced them after two years of near daily wear (though should have replaced them a bit before that...). The things in life you don't want to skimp out on (for quality, not just for designer name) are the things that separate you from the ground. Shoes. Your Mattress. Your Tires.

China is not a so called „Third World“ country anymore, where it’s super cheap to make clothing. That was maybe 10-20 years ago. Brands like H&M, Zara and other cheap clothing brands left China ages ago and produce their clothing now in really poor countries like Bangladesh. Nevertheless it doesn’t change the fact that the working conditions are horrible in China and luxury brands demand way too much money for their stuff.
@sjaki4844

Yes they are moving to Bangladesh and Malaysia more and more. Cause China is becoming less cheap. Which I think is a good thing. This forces them to pay people normally, but they just go looking for cheaper places. We as consumers just need to stay aware of these practices.

@@yedilisious7133 No. I use Chrome. it's just a little button thing up in the doohickie area to the right of your addy/search area. There are no ads. It pops up when you are in checkout, and will auto apply coupons for you. For the vast majority of the time, it's great. There have been rare times when I could find a coupon that Honey did not have/try. I had NO idea that it was accumulating points that you can get turned into gift cards, til a few months ago. The catch is probably that they collect data or something (idk that for fact or anything), but... who doesn't anymore. I also have used Ebates and Mr. Rebates for years, and those are great. Learned of all of them from Leesha/xSparkage many moons ago.

I would suggest watching "bird tricks" here on youtube about sexual aggression or something similar. They are very good with tips and tricks on how to help with that kind of behaviour. It's not fair for the bird or you, because the bird is getting sexually frustrated and you are being attacked essentially. You can tell you do alot of work with your bird and would do anything for him. It's great to see. He is a beautiful bird. (My macaw hasn't humped us but does try to vomit on us to feed us Haha but we stop what we are doing put him somewhere on his cage or perch and tell him its not okay and then ignore him until he starts acting normally)(I don't want to be vomited on lol) My favourite was the purple linen dress! I feel the need to point out that "made in China" does not mean the quality is bad. So the clothes may be amazing both in tailoring and fit. The issue is rather if the workers have been given reasonable salary and treated well at their workplace. And we cannot assume anything about this from the "made in China" alone. We need to do more research into the brand first.

It's very interested that some of these items are more ethically sourced, but most are not... So is the point of the website just for people who want to feel rich and only care about spending lots of money, rather than being able to put their money towards ethical brands?? As a sewer I know what so many items would cost to make .....that first pink dress could be made for under $20 retail price for fabric so they probably paid about $5 fabric and $3 labour cost ..... but to be generous we could say it cost the designer $10 .00 .......... the ruffled cream lace dress was lovely , the lilac beaded dress was gorgeous and better value as all beaded.....I just can’t stand seeing items selling at about 50 times what they would pay for it , I know they have to make a living but bloody hell 😞

@William_Porter
@William_Porter 4 жыл бұрын
@@vivijd14 The days part is true but the whole sleep schedule thing doesn't always and rarely works due to the fact birds will already be frustrated/annoyed or hormonal by the time you even realize. For belts with not enough loops to hold down the excess, grab a hair tie in the same color and thread it onto the belt. A belt the size of that dalmatian one would be able to just slide the hair tie on (and then slip the excess sticky outie bit through it) or if you've got a narrow belt, loop the hair tie a few times and slip the belt end through only one of the final loops. I do this a LOT
