My grandmother had very long hair and she used to do it up similarly to this. It’s kind of a poignant memory from my childhood. Ever since she passed away I’ve been wanting to replicate it to feel closer to her in some way, but haven’t been able to figure out how she did it. I literally want to cry thinking about finally finding a tutorial for something that looks so similar to her. Thank you. 💜

Elisa Finlayson The only way my hair is “waist-length” is if it’s the waistline of a Regency gown. I guess my hair is still a bit too short for this, and I generally prefer to have two braids anyway, because I don’t like having any bulk at the nape of my neck, especially when sleeping.

Sadly my hair is fine, slippery and doesn't hold much of a shape without products, which I dislike using. It sees bobby pins and it laughs at them. Sometimes I do the side rolls to feel fancy, they last 4 hours, tops. AND YET. I shall be trying this.

Same!!! And now that I’m getting older my hair is thinning more. As if it weren’t thin enough to begin with. At least when I was young it was bright blonde and thick enough to have it to my waist. Now it’s a weird light brown/ odd color that doesn’t even have a name. I will say I haven’t gone gray yet at 54. But this young woman has gorgeous gray hair!

Oh, thank you so much for this! Finally, a successful "crown braid." Due to the coronavirus, I can't go to work, the gym, etc, so I needed this! I did a very easy variation: I left some hair out, next to my face, and curled it. I have a very soft face and prefer to have more hair next to my face. And volume. More hairstyles like this would be great! I love the historical/fantasy styles, but can be discouraged by how hard they can be, especially if it involves any kind of detailing at the back of my head (which I can't see).

One more way to dress it up: find a ribbon or strip of fabric about the thickness and length of half of your hair and use it as one section of your braid. This gives you a thicker braid and a pop of color throughout the hairstyle.

Thank you so much! I have hair about as long as yours and, while I do love it, it’s so hard to find styles for it since anytime I look up “hairstyles for super long hair” I get a bunch of people doing hair thats only to the mid back. On top of that it doesn’t help that my hair is half-curly half-straight so it’s extra hard to style. Most of the time I just clip it back on a half up and go, but that leaves the majority in the way. Thanks again! Amazing Chanel!

My go-to hairstyle for those with long but thin hair (maybe not ideal for those with thick hair because the bun might be too heavy/big): I simply brush my hair and do an English braid (i recommend a hair tie but it's worth trying if it's secure enough without) - then twist it around its starting point while making sure the braid lays flat on itself. The result should look wide and quite flat, a bit like a cinnamon roll - hold it in place with one hand and twist the end around the braid under the bun. That should hide your unbraided-ends and the hair tie - then use lots of hairpins ( the type that you don't need to hold open) and put them in on the outmost braid towards the center. Go around the entire bun until it feels like its secure and the braids won't slide around (i use around 5 extra long pins for this) - after that, you have a flat, braided bun, but it will probably not lay smoothly against your hair. So i use 3 bobby pins (so the type you need to hold open while you slide then in your hair) to connect the bun to my hair on the top and left + right. By going through the underside of the bun you can easily make those pins disappear - finally, if I don't like that the hair is too flat on my head, I slide my index-fingers under my hair in front of my ears and pull the hair away from my head to create some volume. (to put less strain on the hair, you might want to do each side separately while holding the bun with the other hand.) This style: - keeps my braid out of my way all-day - prevents friction on my hair - looks much more complex than it is (just do the braid and the bun part takes about an extra minute) - very secure with all the pins, I have worked in the hospital before and I never had my hair get loose and fall into anything (which is very useful if you deal with not-so-appetizing substances, help people wash themselves etc.) - you can sleep in it: I usually sleep with a silk scarf wrapped around my hair for some protection during sleep so the side hairs won't get too crazy over one night. Before I put on the scarf I just take out the three bobby pins and leave the pun intact (that way it lays around the nape of my neck and won't cause me a headache trying to lay on it). In the morning i take off my scarf, comb the hairs on my head in place with my fingers, twist the bun a bit to make it tight again and pin it back into place - looks almost as neat as on day 1 but less stress for my hair because i don't comb it again, and it basically means no time spent on doing my hair again for that day.

I really appreciate seeing this type of video as someone with hair the same length as yours, I am always looking for easy styles that wont cause me literal headaches due to the weight of my hair!

Thank You for this hairstyle very flattering to the face! I understood how to do it after watching 1x you are a very good teacher! I only wish I had learned it sooner because, then less years would have been spent wearing a damaging not so flattering pony tail. My hair is to my waist so my braid doesn't go around to the back of my head as far as yours can, but close. Gardening, chores & beach I will wear it. Your hair looks so pretty like a magical fairy! I've been letting my hair become what color it wants to turn to, I've never dyed it.

Fantastic and super easy hairstyle - i love to see more like this! Sadly my hair isn't long enough for now, but time will change it. I cut my hair 2018 down to 6 milimeters and it's almost back to shoulder lenghs (40cm in 3,5 years) I am so happy that i found your channel. Thank you so much for your ideas, work and tips from wise old ladies ❤️

My favourite - I always have loved this style, but didn't think I'd ever have long enough hair to do it myself. I love to braid a ribbon, yarn, or skinny scarf with my hair, since my hair alone isn't as thick as I'd like it to be. Also, I can use the ribbon or whatever to hold the braid end - and even leave a bow showing as a decoration.

That sounds like a great style! I’m a sucker for bows too 🎀😁

My hair is just long enough to do this, but is very fine, so my twists practically disappear to nothing, it’s about the same as if I just make the braid and wrap it around my head. Braiding it with a skinny scarf to add volume and deal with the tails is my go-to.👍

Beautiful twisted braided updo. The flower clips jazz it up too. Great style.

I'll try this since am getting bored with my standard ballerina's bun and yeah, stress on hair roots. Looks great!

TY for sharing. My hair is down to my rear-end. Unfortunately, I do not have the patience in the morning to try a different hairstyle for work. Your style looks easy enough though for me to try. 😊

Wow you've got some length. It's been almost a year since I had my hair cut and it's only down to the mid back. I can only do one half the crown braid look. It looks like I'll need a few more inches to try your style. Love it!

I’m so excited to try this! Love doing the twists, they are my go to style. I just normally twist the rest into a bun though. I’ve also started doing the braids wrapped around my head- but i’ve never thought to combine them! Totally doing my hair like this for work tomorrow 😁

You are so cute, this is so practical! Very good video! Like I told Torrinpaige: Mind blowing! For months I've been working in my head, twist from the top all the way down (just like you did), and then a rope braid. Which is not do-able and I've been trying to think this through, because it would be so pretty and easy. But not do-able. Now, an English braid! Ah hah! Fantastic! Pretty, easy, do-able! Much better than anything my brain was planning. Thank you very much, PrettyShepherd!

You are darling! Thanks for the fun and inspirational videos. I have long but straight, fine and relatively thin hair. Nice to see style that doesn’t rely on voluminous, curly hair! Looking forward to trying this out.

I’ve been doing two Dutch braids to create a crown braid look, but I dislike the middle part in the back. I am also a bit braid-skills challenged. 😉 I just tried your method and my tailbone length hair is just long enough to pull it off. It feels very well balanced and looks nicely finished, plus I can tuck all the thin ends into the twist. So now I’m going to resist the urge to cut it back to waist for a bit longer. Thank you so much!
