I cannot express how thoroughly wonderful it is to have this kind of support. This is the first time I have felt good about my decision to switch to a plant based diet since I was very recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. All my doctor wanted to do was immediately plug me into several drugs. He knows nothing about plant based diets and promotes mixing drugs as an “integrated” approach. Thank you for clearly showing the many proofs that plant based diets alone can cure this disorder. I have not taken a single pill that has been prescribed for me and I look forward to proving my doctor wrong. My husband has been taking so many pills since he was diagnosed 25 years ago with this the same disease that I have lost count of the number. The pills are his way of not having to change bad dietary habits. Unfortunately, he’s just getting sicker and sicker and I cannot convince him to watch any of these videos or movies such as Forks Over Knives. He’d rather eat steak and fried chicken. Without such support from kind and knowledgeable professionals such as yourselves I would be alone. Thank you so much for your guidance and generous sharing. I am very deeply grateful.

Dr. M, one thing you said here really caught my attention, besides all the interesting in-depth information about diabetes. When you have diabetes, and you're continuously checking your sugar and always taking insulin and everyone asks you about your sickness. You're focusing on being sick. Even with T1, the need for insulin and the need to constantly check sugar go down, so it stops being the focus of your life, and you can focus on being healthy. I really like that idea. Eating well changes the focus of your life from sickness to wellness. YES!!!! That's what you did for me. My issue wasn't diabetes but could have become an issue with my family history. I"m the only one of my sibs and cousins to escape the thing that killed grandma at 59. And the stone you threw in my pond has rippled out and touched many people. Thanks for making this your life's work. You made a huge difference in my world and the world at large. Thank you a million times.

This makes so much sense to me! I'm very interested in the study of genetics vs. cultural habits and how they relate to different groups health as I think it tells a story over time. All of my siblings in our 60-70ies now have diabetes, are somewhat overweight to very much overweight with inflammation issues. Yet....my mother never did. This has puzzled me all my life,a little envious! She ate sugars, hard candy, all fruits- fresh and dried, potatoes, whole wheat, rolled oats, tons of starchy veggies, etc- freely and daily. She did eat meat, but avoided all red meats, and only are small amounts of fish and chicken (always minus the skin and fat). Being somewhat of a health nut, she vemently avoided all fried foods, processed foods, rarely ate butter, or any oils except cold pressed flax or olive for salads. Oh, and she also was very conscious of her weight and staying active. That woman NEVER developed diabetes, or any other disease, lived healthily till 97 yrs young. By contrast, my father ate a diet heavy in meat, processed meats, butter, whole milk etc. He ended up with diabetes, arterial Sclerosis, and finally cancer...& passed at 80. Hhhhhmmm. Just now through listening to this webinar, (podcast, or whatever video)with the studies Dr McDougal has posted, it is clicking in my brain. I can now REALLY SEE why! It's totally the FAT in our diet making us sick and fat. Not the whole food healthy carbs!

Have to brag. A1C was 5.6 like 6 years ago when I was on what I thought was a "healthy" version of SAD. A year after switching to plant based it came at 4.8. Just tested now at 4.2. Im so grateful for the information to practice self healthcare, not be subjected to sick care. Many of my blood relations suffer from diabetes. I am the eldest of the next generation and so far so good. I'm also the only one who eats WPB.

@@betzib8021 you may not be having an issue of insulin resistance due to fat in your diet, but problems with insulin production, release, signaling, glucagon levels, etc. due to your microbiome, genetic or environmental reasons. You could be slowly developing type 1.5 diabetes. (in which you may need insulin). I was able to drop my A1C to below 5.0 by eating more beans, fewer whole grains, strict avoidance of any simple carbs, more vegetables and hemp protein powder, lupini beans, high protein tofu (basically substituting protein for carbs instead of fat...which is what the keto people do. My macros more like 60% Carb, 10-15% fat, 25-30% protein. your mileage may vary. Try to find a knowledgeable plant based doctor like John M. to work with.

It works but you can’t do your version of it. My dad did it and reversed his type 2 diabetes within a month - after having it for 30 years! The key is to remove all overt fats; a baked potato can’t be covered in plant based butter or oil. When you remove the fat, the fat clears out of the cells and organs and the glucose can get in to fuel you.

After being slender my whole life, I gained weight rapidly after taking several rounds of prednisone. I have gained more since then, having been in a sedentary job for 15 years. I should just move in with the McDougalls and have them show me what to eat. :-) The talk about fat people hits me pretty hard, but I don't want to be fat, I want to lose weight. I am so tired of this struggle. So, I just plan on sticking with this way of eating and doing whatever I can to stand, walk and make up for the sedentary job.

I am overweight and have had type 2 diabetes for many years. I have high triglycerides and cholesterol and have had to start taking statins. I do a brisk workout everyday and eat healthy yet I can’t lose the weight A few months ago I had my third acute pancreatitis attack it was at that time that I decided to accept my endo’s advice to get gastric bypass and I was schedules to have the surgery this month. I had a heart attack scare recently therefore my surgery has been pushed back to March in order to get cleared by a cardiologist first. I’ve been trying to lose the weight and get my blood sugar under control on my own without having the surgery but I haven’t been able to. I wish that I was a patient of Dr. McDougal.
