You are so right. Never use those brushes at the manual wash bays. I learned that the hard way. I wrecked my paint on my Acura TSX I once had. The whole car had swirling scratches all over the place. Bad Decision and never again.

I rust Proof my E92 for each winter at a specialized place here in Montreal Canada. And yes BMW are the last cars to rust on the Market cause of the Factory rust inhibiters bath...

How often do you do an underside wash in the winter? After every snow or once a week?

I basically try to do it when they put large amounts of salt down on the road. So that can be after a snowstorm or sometimes even after it rains and they salt so the rain doesn’t freeze up. Usually ends up being every couple weeks

What function did you use for washing undercarriage? Rinse?

I usually hit it with both wash and rinse. In my mind the soap will help break up any caked on salt before rinsing it off. Who knows if it makes much difference - I think when you get underbody wash at a normal car wash it's just water without soap.
