I supplied a rock quarry with fuel when it first opened, they had a mobile crusher setup so there was several pieces plus the loaders and trucks to fill , I ended up parking a older fuel truck there so I could stop and fill them in the evenings after work, I trained there shop guys on how to work the fuel truck to do their own fueling and I'd just refill the truck when they emptied it , been doing it for 13 years now .

The worst thing about those old Fords with juice brakes is just that the rotten Lucas Girling brakes. Hard to get brakes parts if you do find them very expensive to buy. For what you are going to use the truck for it will do just fine. One of the local logging contractors used to run an old F700 it had the 429 5+2 and juice brakes the truck had a 16 foot flat deck with Atlas knuckle boom crane. They had 12R22.5 tires on it all the way around, one of the old guys he put 9 tons on it he said the braking power was a little weak. The old truck wasn't known for its fuel economy it would burn 45 gallons of gas like nothing. It was a water tanker in its previous life for the fire dept the truck had really low kilometers.

You know I wish someone would of told me what perils lay ahead of me after I purchased a fuel truck, Do NOT get stopped by your state popo . first get rid of the 1203 and go to a 1993 it will save you if you get pinched, are you in a drug testing consortium, do you have a security plan, do you have a FBI background check, have you filed a msc insurance with the feds, have you been trained , have you had a recent tank test, and on and on, I almost lost everything over a fuel truck. my advice is don't go where the bears are, move in the middle of the night. or just get one of those pull behind fuel wagons that are legal without all the bs that comes with a fuel truck

My question being is that the original motor? If so did it come fuel injected? The 429 gasser I have is carbureted and started burning so much oil we had to park it. The shop I had look at it said it wasn’t worth rebuilding so I ended up getting a different truck.

That is a very nice truck! I don’t think you will be driving that truck long distances? Not the way the 429 burns fuel! I personally think it would be faster and a lot cheaper to haul it to your job sites… Especially if it has fuel in it. Plus like someone else mentioned that will draw thieves! Especially those who are looking for an easy score. It will be like fresh cheese and bacon juice on it to rats! It will definitely need some kind of a security system? Maybe with a few cameras built in metal boxes. The Lorex cameras run off 12VDC and a converter will run the recorder box. They have some wireless systems but if it were me I would hard wire them. I have one of their systems. It has motion alerts that will text you as well as and you can talk two ways through some of the systems and cameras. I have scared the crap out of a few delivery drivers by telling them thanks. I use my iPad and my computer my system. Plus that would be a huge clean up if thieves were to leave the nozzle open. I would definitely put some electrical valves with a disconnect on it so it can’t be turned on or drained without first opening the normally closed valve.

@@2-bar-one I may have slightly exaggerated, but if you have several big machines running full throttle all day, you can go through hundreds of gallons a day. Not sure what Charlie's average fuel burn is on his jobs, but I would guess when he's got two reclaimers, a dozer, a spreader, etc, I would expect at least 4-600 gallons a day, if not more.

Do you need to carry DEF. Maybe one of the other tanks would work for that purpose.
@mikebuffing727
@mikebuffing727 2 жыл бұрын
That would need a lot of changes. Separate pump, lines, nozzle, heater, and some tank changes as def is corrosive. All def tanks are plastic for a reason. Now he could put in a couple 30 gallon plastic tank setups in the side cabinets.

not to preach about safety or be a safety sally my brother works for one of the large truck rental companines they policy is to not park fuel tanker trucks or trailers inside to work on them they had an empty trailer explode in one of the shops yes I know diesel is safer the gas and an empty tanker trailer is more dangerous then a loaded one especially if it was used to haul gas I'm just saying you should be extra careful keeping it inside a closed up garage especially if you have the heat on

Makes total sense to me and is a lot nicer than the one I had at the tank farm/terminal some 25 years ago. Once placarded those things draw some unwanted nighttime attention on job sites, I'm sure you've thought of ways to secure it and it's contents. Also, be vigilant in never accidentally putting dyed fuel in the wrong vehicles, I've been told that cleaning the dye out of the whole fuel system involves flushing it. If you fab up a strong rear bumper and mount a pintle hitch on it.....
