@@mrn1mrod What? Predators/Yautja having a wonky sense of honor was always part of their stories. Arnies Jungle Hunter shot the dude that challenged him to a melee fight. He imitated amusement over getting to blow up Dutch. And how fair any fight can be with those technological enhancements really is anyones guess. Him going invisible when he's getting hurt is just part of the deal.

My favorite part was just how all the humans took the Predator as just a big beast out in the wild they stumbled across. They were all hunters so no one was afraid. Just shows how savage and raw those times were back then and it was just a bigger challenge to deal with in every day life. Where as modern Predator movies you have people just freaking out and running away.

Many might not know this: They filmed a version where they speak Comanche for a little bit before switching to English (like the Russian characters in Hunt for Red October), and then they filmed a version where they speak in their native Comanche. I believe I found this info on Wikipedia. YOU CAN SWITCH TO COMANCHE. It improves the movie IMO, sort of like watching Akira or Ghost in the Shell in Japanese with subtitles. It just feels more authentic. After you pull this movie up in Hulu, you can go to movie options, and switch to the Comanche version. You will probably need to turn English subtitles on.

Different kind of predator and these guy can travel through galaxies , I'm sure he had some access to tech we used to if the predators from ancient mayans did thousands of years before it in avp This guy came from another side of predator homeworld and they are more into the versatility of light armor and speed is best for the hunt and their weapons reflect this as their light but effective but these guys are more feral and rather use their superior muscle and instincts then strategies and waiting for the perfect shot like their brothers from the clans we used to
@OBELISK3210
@OBELISK3210 Жыл бұрын
It’s a feral predator, not like the other predators we see in the other movies, it’s a different race, they have been at war on there home world with each other a bit like how our planet has different races, they do there & thus you notice similar but very different hunting tech. & obviously when his mask was off you noticed the difference in species. Plus he was a young blood looking to get blooded/marked to be in his clan once he goes back with his trophies. Hence why he was kind of naive at the end as he lacked that experience in kombat vs other top hunters ontop of the echo food chain. I absolutely loved it & the fact they went with the feral species was perfect.

I really enjoyed Prey. Showing a different culture, in a different time period, go up against the Predator was exactly what the franchise needed to breathe new life into it. I also liked how even the Predator's weaponry and armour was more primitive- he didn't have his shoulder laser and instead mostly used stabbing/puncture style weaponry. It demonstrates his code of honour; he's capable of space flight, but he doesn't use that level of technology for the most part. Also, the dog was amazing.

Fun fact, some of the new predator tech and tactics might have come from AVP Primal Hunt (the game from like 22 years ago) The predator there had a similar spear weapon, also the bolt firing weapon was a big thing there too. You could also pick them up, just like the predator does in the movie. Also, in that video game, the predator starts hunting animals first, and then moves on to humans. Again, very similar to the movie.

I just finished Prey while watching with headphones, and the sound design is top-notch. I wish this had gotten a theatrical release. The large vista shots would have looked great on the big screen, and some of the battle sequences would have also been cool to experience. All-in-all, I'm very surprised by how enthralled I was with this movie from beginning to end. The parrallels of Native American culture and the great hunt that the Predator culture participates in was a cool way to tie in character development. I will probably watch it several more times.

It's crazy that a movie franchise with such a seemingly simple, easy to emulate concept (competent yet unprepared protagonists slowly realize they are vastly underpowered) has struggled to regain relevance in this era. I'm glad Prey seems to realize, especially in this era of retro reverence/nostalgia, that going back to the basics, with perhaps better acting/character development, is a good direction to go. Given Predator really shouldn't need an insane budget with its concept, I'm hoping this "higher budget for streaming route" might be a good space for sequels if it does well enough. FWIW Predator 2 is over-the-top, as you said, but what movie from that era isn't? It's very schlocky and pulpy and I'm here for it. Predators IMO is the best of the sequels... basically all the fun notes of the original with awesome SFX and some extra twists. A shame people couldn't get over Brody as an action lead because he clearly committed to the role and he works just fine for the film.

The problem was not the original concept, but the lore that was originated from it, specially from the Dark Horse comics. I think people are way past the original concept, when we talk about personal expectations. I think people want to know more about the alien race per se, their culture, their homeworld, how they society works, the different clans, and more aspects of it. Not gonna lie, I would love to see a show on the line of Game of Thrones, but with Predators clans...

My problem was never with Brody. It was the designs of the predators. They looked way over the top. Something they also did in AvP. And it was almost a blatant copy of the first one. I don't mind a couple of scenes with homages but the entire movie was almost like one big homage. I wish they did more. The scene where the whole team was standing on the edge of a cliff and realising that they are on a different planet gave me goosebumps. And the 1 on 1 with a predator and the Yakuza-guy was a fine homage to "Billy". I was disappointed. It could have been much more.

I had a heck of a good time watching Prey. First of all, this movie is just straight up beautiful. Prey really reminds you that humans are just one of the many inhabitants of the world, and they're not always on top of the food chain. The movie did feel a little short, but they did actually take the time to set up all the things that pay off in the end. It feels like we lost a buildup to the climax, but the climax is definitely not unearned. It even made me smile and go "I see what you did there" a few times.

I liked the use of basic weapons, I was wondering how they were going to pull off the fighting with the Predators advanced technology versus bows and arrows and muskets! The Predator was just right IMO, it was defiantly not as beefed up as the others, so I am assuming he comes from another clan or something. All in all I was pleasantly surprised about this and I enjoyed it as it had a solid story and you could relate to the main characters and of course the dog. 9.5/10 for me.

I haven't seen all the Predator movies, but I saw the original and the 2011 one, and I feel like both of them don't really get momentum until the characters are stripped down to their wilderness survival skills and outfoxing the predator using fire, traps and raw muscle. I'm looking forward to seeing this one for that reason: the technology in those other movies was never anything more than a glitzy Act 1 distraction that establishes the threat as something that recognizes what mines, tripwires and guns are.

It just doesn’t compare to the original as that film was lightning in a bottle. One thing I believe they did better in part 2 was the music. I think the actual *detective* work that happens in Predator 2 doesn't get enough love. It's a *mystery.* The first movie is mysterious--what is this thing, why does it hunt the way it does, how can it be beaten--but Predator 2 really gets into it and it's a bunch of detectives like... detective-ing. Danny Glover absolutely sells being a cop in dystopian LA who suddenly has to deal with an *alien*. He's not Arnold, and THAT'S THE POINT. He's a wonderful contrast and I like the idea that if you're clever enough, you don't have to be a superhero to beat the Predator. Predators is great because it's... well, it's using the formula of the first movie: a bunch of super badass soldiers who are suddenly not the most badass thing around. Same thing Aliens did with the Colonial Marines. I love Predators specifically because it has an AMAZING cast who super get into it, everyone gets moments to shine and watching them deal with each other as well as the monsters is a delight. And then The Predator didn't have any of that. I honestly forgot most of that movie.

What I love about “Prey” is that it’s themes are universal. Naru’s story is more than just a woman who wants to be a hunter. She’s someone who wants to be more than what her tribe expect her to be. She respects her traditions, but doesn’t want to be beholden to them. Her story is relatable because how many of us want to be more than what our families and society expect us to be? How many of us have had go against the norm to be who we truly want to be? I love the fact that Naru isn’t successful in the beginning, just like none of us are. But just like her we don’t give up on what is worth doing. We stand back up and try again. “Prey” is still a kick ass action film, don’t get me wrong, but the fact that they were able to subtly put in such a relatable message into a Predator film is amazing!

Awesome movie, and finally a worthy sequel (I guess I should say prequel). I enjoyed the 2010 Predators with Adrien Brody but Prey blows it out of the water. Something so interesting about a Predator that is still learning and equipped with less advanced weapons than the one in the original Predator set centuries later. The fact that it was still hunting other big predators like Wolves and Bears more so than humans is also a good sign that humans were not yet perceived as being at the top of Earth's food-chain until Predators had encounters with Humans and stopped coming back from their hunts. It shows you that Arnold was probably facing a perfected version of a Predator from an alien culture that had advanced their hunting skills against humans and other galactic warriors continuously for probably thousands of years.

Prey is easily number two for me on the rankings. Also Amber Midthunder did a great job. She didn't have fantastic lines but she did a good job with her eyes. I'm the weirdo here, and I'll admit it's not particularly good, but I really like the lore expansion aspect of the first 'AvP'. “Predator 2” while a shlocky B-movie is actually fun and pretty cool alien monster film There’s not really a deep message or trying to reinvent the character. If anything, it’s more about expanding the culture of the Predator creature and showing new toys. The fact that the Predators have clans, they fight with a sense of honor, and they hold true to their code of conduct makes for a good expansion of their lore. Danny Glover was the prey but became the hunter at the end. And when the Clan Leader threw him the Flint-lock pistol, it’s a sign of respect saying “Good game. You’ve earned this trophy.” It’s what separates the Predator race from every other alien species that comes to our planet. Many aliens either want to invade us, make peace with us, study us, harvest us or give us something. The predator comes to almost play with us in it’s sick, twisted and gory game. And that’s why if I wanted to have drinks with any aliens species in this entire universe so far, it’s the Yautja race aka “The Predators”
