It’s a feral predator, not like the other predators we see in the other movies, it’s a different race, they have been at war on there home world with each other a bit like how our planet has different races, they do there & thus you notice similar but very different hunting tech. & obviously when his mask was off you noticed the difference in species. Plus he was a young blood looking to get blooded/marked to be in his clan once he goes back with his trophies. Hence why he was kind of naive at the end as he lacked that experience in kombat vs other top hunters ontop of the echo food chain. It's crazy that a movie franchise with such a seemingly simple, easy to emulate concept (competent yet unprepared protagonists slowly realize they are vastly underpowered) has struggled to regain relevance in this era. I'm glad Prey seems to realize, especially in this era of retro reverence/nostalgia, that going back to the basics, with perhaps better acting/character development, is a good direction to go. Given Predator really shouldn't need an insane budget with its concept, I'm hoping this "higher budget for streaming route" might be a good space for sequels if it does well enough. FWIW Predator 2 is over-the-top, as you said, but what movie from that era isn't? It's very schlocky and pulpy and I'm here for it. Predators IMO is the best of the sequels... basically all the fun notes of the original with awesome SFX and some extra twists. A shame people couldn't get over Brody as an action lead because he clearly committed to the role and he works just fine for the film.
@rubendacostaesilva84422 жыл бұрын
The problem was not the original concept, but the lore that was originated from it, specially from the Dark Horse comics. I think people are way past the original concept, when we talk about personal expectations. I think people want to know more about the alien race per se, their culture, their homeworld, how they society works, the different clans, and more aspects of it. Not gonna lie, I would love to see a show on the line of Game of Thrones, but with Predators clans...

My problem was never with Brody. It was the designs of the predators. They looked way over the top. Something they also did in AvP. And it was almost a blatant copy of the first one. I don't mind a couple of scenes with homages but the entire movie was almost like one big homage. I wish they did more. The scene where the whole team was standing on the edge of a cliff and realising that they are on a different planet gave me goosebumps. And the 1 on 1 with a predator and the Yakuza-guy was a fine homage to "Billy". I was disappointed. It could have been much more.

I enjoyed the movie and loved that it was short and sweet. We needn’t a romance story, a comedic relief, etc in every movie. This was a simple story told simply. It mostly did everything it set out to do well. Conversely, it didn’t do anything poorly. Not a must-see but a good time that anyone could jump into without previously having seen the past films. 7.5/10

As soon as the Predator shows up you're always looking around in the background to figure out where it's possibly hiding. I had a heck of a good time watching Prey. First of all, this movie is just straight up beautiful. Prey really reminds you that humans are just one of the many inhabitants of the world, and they're not always on top of the food chain. The movie did feel a little short, but they did actually take the time to set up all the things that pay off in the end. It feels like we lost a buildup to the climax, but the climax is definitely not unearned. It even made me smile and go "I see what you did there" a few times.

Fun fact, some of the new predator tech and tactics might have come from AVP Primal Hunt (the game from like 22 years ago) The predator there had a similar spear weapon, also the bolt firing weapon was a big thing there too. You could also pick them up, just like the predator does in the movie. Also, in that video game, the predator starts hunting animals first, and then moves on to humans. Again, very similar to the movie.

I think the actual *detective* work that happens in Predator 2 doesn't get enough love. It's a *mystery.* The first movie is mysterious--what is this thing, why does it hunt the way it does, how can it be beaten--but Predator 2 really gets into it and it's a bunch of detectives like... detective-ing. Danny Glover absolutely sells being a cop in dystopian LA who suddenly has to deal with an *alien*. He's not Arnold, and THAT'S THE POINT. He's a wonderful contrast and I like the idea that if you're clever enough, you don't have to be a superhero to beat the Predator. Predators is great because it's... well, it's using the formula of the first movie: a bunch of super badass soldiers who are suddenly not the most badass thing around. Same thing Aliens did with the Colonial Marines. I love Predators specifically because it has an AMAZING cast who super get into it, everyone gets moments to shine and watching them deal with each other as well as the monsters is a delight. And then The Predator didn't have any of that. I honestly forgot most of that movie.

“Predator 2” while a shlocky B-movie is actually fun and pretty cool alien monster film There’s not really a deep message or trying to reinvent the character. If anything, it’s more about expanding the culture of the Predator creature and showing new toys. The fact that the Predators have clans, they fight with a sense of honor, and they hold true to their code of conduct makes for a good expansion of their lore. Danny Glover was the prey but became the hunter at the end. And when the Clan Leader threw him the Flint-lock pistol, it’s a sign of respect saying “Good game. You’ve earned this trophy.” It’s what separates the Predator race from every other alien species that comes to our planet. Many aliens either want to invade us, make peace with us, study us, harvest us or give us something. The predator comes to almost play with us in it’s sick, twisted and gory game. And that’s why if I wanted to have drinks with any aliens species in this entire universe so far, it’s the Yautja race aka “The Predators”

Idk what you’d expect. The predator seemed more like a young hunter. Savagely defeating its opponents. It was incredibly powerful yet vulnerable. With all its technological advantages over its prey, in my opinion that was its downfall. That ultimately aided the protagonist who wasn’t a superior fighter yet had a warriors spirit. She fought and won based off her previous encounters throughout the film. Utilizing those interactions along with her IQ in battle. That and the opportunistic timing of other characters fuck ups allowed her to pull off the victory. In my honest opinion this film is major step in the right direction for this franchise. Very much a return to form for the franchise. And I think they have stumbled across a winning formula. Preditors/Yautja visting Earth to hunt in different time periods would be a exciting direction to take the Predator franchise in. Vikings era would be Interesting. But I could see a Predator movie set in WW2 being epic. Lot of possibilities.

The first one was indeed perfect and a work of art. It showed Predator as very deliberate and intelligent without spelling it out. The movie overall surprisingly holds up pretty well by today's standards, storywise as well as cinematically. The majority of effects are practical and the brilliant character design by Stan Winston is timeless. And don't get me started on the brilliant soundtrack by Alan Silvestri, which is iconic at this point. Add to that the iconic Predator soung invented by Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime, and you've got the recipe for a masterpiece. Of course, there was a couple of 80's cheesy moments and one-liners, but they don't play a major role in the grand scheme of things, imo.

Completely agree with everything you said so now I’m looking forward to Prey. I love Predator 2 - flaws and all. I saw it in a theater opening weekend. The projector had a bad bulb so the edges of the screen were dark and that actually made the movie more creepy than the perfect presentation of Blu-ray.

I haven't necessarily liked all of the films involving the Predator, but I haven't hated any of them. Predator 2 still was pretty fun, for what it was. I'd like to see more fleshed out and structured Predator films, that don't necessarily have to downplay the plain action core of the franchise. I believe its possible to make character-driven movies with compelling stories that still feature the Predator and still utilize that aspect to the fullest. AvP should've been that, in my opinion. Tell the story from the Predators' points of view, and build them up as individuals and as a culture, and then force them to realize they need the humans they were hunting, to deal with this out of control threat of the Aliens. I have to say...I wasn't thrilled with the concept of Prey, not because it's a girl or anything, but because her sole advantage was that she's supposed to be really clever and good with traps and tactics. But then we see footage in the trailer of her lobbing one of their shitty arrows into a fucking bear and then escaping into a beaver lodge of all things. My only thought was, "how the fuck am I expected to believe this girl is tactician enough to defeat a predator when she's not even smart enough to deal with a fucking bear?" But, I'm still curious...and your taste in movies is fairly close to mine...so if you say it's ok, I'll give it a shot.

Well with every movie the predator is killed by a lesser person. To me the money shot is whether or not the predator will be defeated and it’s always defeated, makes it lose some of the shine. But the predator has T-Rex skulls in its ship. So this MF can go heads up with a T-Rex!! But now in 22 we get some 100lb girl killing a predator??? I guess 🤷🏽

In general this movie was very good. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this as it brought it back to it's roots, as you mentioned humans were not the apex hunters at the time. I liked the use of basic weapons, I was wondering how they were going to pull off the fighting with the Predators advanced technology versus bows and arrows and muskets! The Predator was just right IMO, it was defiantly not as beefed up as the others, so I am assuming he comes from another clan or something. All in all I was pleasantly surprised about this and I enjoyed it as it had a solid story and you could relate to the main characters and of course the dog. 9.5/10 for me.

I haven't seen all the Predator movies, but I saw the original and the 2011 one, and I feel like both of them don't really get momentum until the characters are stripped down to their wilderness survival skills and outfoxing the predator using fire, traps and raw muscle. I'm looking forward to seeing this one for that reason: the technology in those other movies was never anything more than a glitzy Act 1 distraction that establishes the threat as something that recognizes what mines, tripwires and guns are.

And especially the tone of the movie, very small moments of light humor but was more serious which kept me on the edge of my seat and fully invested with what was going on idk im just sick of goofy humor being forced into places it shouldn't be and the best example of that is what was done with the last predator movie The Predator(2018)🤦🏻♂️ so it feels my heart with joy that Prey actually turned out to be pretty fucken amazing😍

I'm so glad the director went back to basics with character development, culture and a good story line. Great movie and used a lead female very well. The character of the predator has so many possibilities for sequels and prequels in a Saga. 20th century kept trashing it with avp & the predator. Now that Disney owns it, let's see how they move forward.

You know, the movie also left Easter egg for Billy. He was an Native American tracker and was spooked as he was familiar with something out there in the film. The way the predator was killing his team he had to have known from his ancestors about the predator. In the very end credits in Prey, the Yautja did return with more hunters and more than likely wiped out the tribe, obtaining the pistol from the chief as a souvenir.

IMO, Loved the fight scenes, how brutal and mortal combat-ish they were as mentioned, and how the predator used all the weapons against its foes. Absolute savagery, No mercy for anything that stays in its path.
