I think it's a dual relationship. As the humor from the first act dies down, the tension rises climaxing in the third act. It feels more dynamic that way instead of static tones like humor with thor or seriousness like man of steel

Christopher Wood well, Predator’s not really scary anymore. It’s been 30 years and after making it scary is just going to make it fall on its face. I love the original predator, but after all, the monster has been over exposed. Just make it a comedy. It’s a Shane Black, movie, it’s his style and his hallmark.

@@martinvr12 We actually don't know yet that there's too much humor in it just based on Jeremy's words. He is one guy, and it may have seemed like too much to him, but this is Shane Black we're talking about, the guy puts humor in all his action films, but it typically doesn't detract at all. I may be wrong, but my guess is, seeing as Jeremy only mentioned Iron Man 3, he might not be overly familiar with Black's usual style. Again could be wrong, he might have watched the nice guys at least, but Shane Black is just known more for the mcu work these days rather than his other stuff, and Jeremy seems to be mistaking his brand of humor for mcu humor, even though it's been there pretty much since lethal weapon.

I'd have likes to see one set somewhere along the border, in the midst of a cartel war. With the cartels, you got decapitations, dismemberments, murders with machetes and blades...a predator could operate in that kind of area really under the radar. Add in that it fits with established predator lore(drawn to heat and conflict, the a cartel war on the Texas/Mexico border would be full of conflict and hotter than hell) and you have a great setting for a predator actually hunting and stalking, NOT making it's presence obvious and brute forcing it's way through everything. If you want to have a human protagonist not involved with the cartels, well, a cartel border war would certainly draw in Federales, Texas Rangers, or perhaps DEA. Alternatively, the Middle East would also work. Similar desert setting, maybe have the predator stalking in Syria, you got Syrian army, different factions of Syrian rebels, Russian spec ops "advising" the Syrian army, US spec ops "advising" the rebels...lots of opportunity for mistrust(each group assumes the others are the ones committing the atrocities), that ultimately results in a mixed group of different sides having to come together once they realize they are ALL being targeted...

If you want to recapture the magic of the original Predator movie, give it to a company like Blumhouse, wait until everyone has forgotten about the Predator, then have them produce a low key slasher horror flick with a title like "The Hunted" or "Prey", market it as a serial killer type movie that has an unseen supernatural killer throughout the entire movie and is only revealed as a Predator near the very end, surprising everyone. People go into Predator sequels knowing what to expect and end up being let down because it isn't living up to their expectations, what they don't realize is, what made the original so special is the fact that it subverted everyone's expectations because it was marketed as a Commando-ish Arnold Schwarzenegger type action movie but turned out to be a sci-fi horror flick. The only way you're gonna get anywhere near the original is by pulling the wool over everyone's eyes once again kinda like what M. Night Shyamalan did with Split, connecting it to Unbreakable by having Bruce Willis show up at the end generated enough hype to make people generally interested in where it could lead next. And now we're getting Glass.

I was initially excited to see this because I'm a big fan of Predators in general, but after watching the trailer and hearing every single character directly refer to then as "Predators" I was done. Like, Predator is just what we call them in our world because that's what the original movie was called. They don't refer to them as predators in any of the other movies, nor would it make sense for them too. If this was real, sure you could infer that they were hunting for sport or ritual or whatever, but then it would make more sense to call them Hunters. Predator is too specific a word that only means something to us because of its context.

When it comes to Predator, I have a suggestion. Why not make a movie about what a Predator hunts besides humans and xenomorphs? There's literally a galaxy's worth of ideas you can go with that. The Predators only hunt prey that can defend itself against them right? Or there's no sport or honor in it. So roll with that. People can gripe about losing the human element. I've heard it argued that the reason kaiju movies have humans in it is so the audience can relate. Kaiju movies have been around 60 years, we've related enough, we just want to see the damn things fight each other. Predator movies aren't made for Oscars or existential debates. Just have a Predator go and hunt something that can threaten its life and storyboard it like Fury Road. Money in the bank

You don't need a human element imo. Why not have a movie with no humans. Just a predator hunting some aliens like the Navi. People talk about how they're fresh out of ideas but in this comment section alone made of ppl thinking up stuff on the fly we have "what if the predator actually won, what if predator was a horror and not action, what if we saw predator hunt something on another planet, what if predator went up against something like a Terminator, what if the predator was outmatched and became hunted." These ideas are just too risky for studios to want to spend money on. They need something already tested and safe.

When the first came out , there was no internet, no spoilers ... I thought (like a lot of people) i was about to see another “Commando” movie. Even the posters didn’t show much. It was just another “Arnie action movie”. But no. It was more than that. A GREAT action movie mixed with Sci-Fi/ horror/ creature elements. Never done before. Reminding all this makes me wanna do 3 things : 1/stay home and watch (for the 100th time) the original MacTiernan movie) 2/ avoid this new movie at all costs. 3/ write a letter to Hollywood executives to tell them they are actually KILLING modern cinema.

Where could they go with this franchise? Simple: Do a period piece, completely changing the setting. For example, I'd love to see a Predator movie set in the 16th century during the Spanish conquest on the Yucatan peninsula with Aztecs and Spaniards as factions in the mix (we've already seen allusions to Predators visiting Earth in previous centuries). I also rather liked the approach of 'Predators' with an alien planet. With that latter idea, only the imagination of the writers and the budget is the limit. Anyway, I'm really tired of contemporary Earth settings for movies like these. It wouldn't be hard to make it fresh and interesting again, but it does cost a little more money than usual. Also, I want this franchise's installments to be predominantly sci-fi action thrillers with some gory horror elements. I'm okay with a little more humor, fun, and one-liners, but a straight-up comedy? A Predator comedy flick? Seriously? Sorry, if that's true I don't like Black's new approach at all. It just doesn't fit tonally.

1) Predator 1 ---- Freaking Awesome, straight up legendary. 2) Predator 2 ---- Didn't capture the "Lightning in a bottle" of the original but definitely expanded the Predator lore in lots of genuinely fantastic ways. Although not perfect this movie has always been highly underrated in my opinion. I always thought Glover was a good choice as the new target/trophy personally and the new Predator(s) design(s) was fantastic. 3 = 4) Predators and Prey ---- Definite missteps here and there and some definite questionable decisions made in a few places. Both could have been significantly better with some slight tweaks in story and execution, but still entertaining regardless. I also really liked the "thinner and cut" Predator version in Prey far more than all of the stupid big chested "Hulked Out Predator" versions that followed Predator 2. 5) AVP 1 ---- Better then what a lot of people say, but damaged the lore of the Predators slightly and straight up butchered the lore of Aliens. But still some mindless fun. Significantly worse then the comic book it is very loosely based on though (THAT story I would like to see, although I guess it wouldn't be cheap to make). 6 =7) AVP2 and The Predator ---- Really shit for completely different reasons. Genuinely painful to watch... although I did appreciate the idea of finally seeing a Veteran Predator rather than an "unblooded" for once (although they didn't take proper advantage of that idea) and finally seeing the "Predator Planet" in AVP2. "The Predator" however, I can't think of a single thing I liked, a character of any interest to me, or a moment of any value. Utter shit.

Predator 1 & Predator 2 are the best ones, Predator 2 is really underrated and showed that Pred's not all bad, he won't attack pregnant women, kids, sick older people etc. AvP1 & Predators had some cool moments but they weren't as good as the first two films. AVPR felt alot like it was set in a town you'd see in a Freddy or Jason style slasher flick, which made Predator and the xenomorphs stick out in a bad way, didn't feel like an Alien or a Predator movie and it was so dark you could barely make out what was going on in the night scenes when they were fighting. I had high hopes with this but it sucks to know that it has so much comedy in it, love Shane Black and I love the humor of his films like: The Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Long Kiss Goodnight etc but the first two Predator films had humor but they didn't go overboard with it. Sad to know this one does. Great review, loved that Constantine reference, that movie rocks!

Joseph Allen lol true hehe but yeah Predator 2 got alot of crap, I remember most of it being because Arnold wasn't returning and because of the city setting but I actually liked that it was different, a different kind of jungle. I thought Glover, Paxton, Busey etc were great. And I loved that Pred hated guns and how it showed he did have some sort of code, he only attacked you if you had a gun, which makes it an more honorable fight. It makes rewatches of the original have a bit more to it like when Dillon raises his gun at Pred, Pred doesn't do anything until he scans the weapon and sees that it's a gun, he's simply reacting to the gun aimed at him. In Predator 2, the little boy has the toy gun & after Pred checks & sees it's just a toy, he leaves him alone. I hope one day that they do bring in Arnold & Danny Glover back to reprise their roles, I've been wanting to see that ever since Predator 2 lol. Even though P2 behind the scenes hints that Dutch died, it didn't happen onscreen & it wasn't mentioned onscreen so they could bring back.

The original 1987 Predator had some great humor too. Arnold's rag tag military group would make a great war movie on their own. That's what made it great though. They were able to balance both really well. That's the reason why that's easily the best Predator movie. Predator 2 was bad, but I get the feeling it was supposed to be ridiculously over the top so it works for me! Every one since then is all just one big Meh & this new one looks Meh too.

Have you actually seen it? In the first half, at least I, got hit pretty good with nostalgia. And although it can be a bit much that everybody cracks jokes, they are still good jokes. And the action is good. Tho the CGI felt off at times, interesting that Jeremy didnt mention this. But all in all its better than most of the flicks that have been running last two weeks and I reccomend you to go watch it.

I just watched the film tonight. I gave it an 8/10. The cast was great & the audience I was with laughed at parts that were meant to be funny. The violence in the film is 100% on point and made people cringe when the super predator was on screen . It’s not over the top. The parts of the film that just didn’t work for me, were the “dogs” I feel like that was a missed opportunity and that last scene WTF was that. I was actually expecting something different there. Everything else worked. Visually the film looked great & the story plot was for the most part, made sense.

One thing I can say for sure is the reason I think the two Alien vs predator films didn't do so great is because they took place in the wrong time period. They took place in present day but if you see all the comics games and books they take place around the same time as the second Aliens because they have those colonial marines. So personality that's the last thing that's missing to me. Is getting an Alien vs predator film done right and accurate in time period. Lance Hendrickson is still alive and still acting he can still do Bishop.
