While accompanying the Gardiners (Penelope Wilton & Peter Wight) on their road trip through the Peak District, Elizabeth (Kiera Knightley) takes them on a tour of Darcy's (Matthew MacFayden) estate at Pemberley. Unaware that he is still in town and staying at the estate, Elizabeth has an awkward run-in with Darcy that she wasn't expecting.
FILM SYNOPSIS:
One of the greatest love stories of all time, Pride & Prejudice, comes to the screen in a glorious new adaptation starring Keira Knightley. When Elizabeth Bennett (Knightley) meets the handsome Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFayden), she believes he is the last man on earth she could ever marry. But as their lives become intertwined in an unexpected adventure, she finds herself captivated by the very person she swore to loathe for all eternity. Based on the beloved masterpiece by Jane Austen, it is the classic tale of love and misunderstanding that sparkles with romance, wit and emotional force. Critics are calling it "Exhilarating. A joy from start to finish" (Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times).

Mr. Darcy, in my opinion, gets better looking as the movie progresses, as he falls more in love with Elizabeth every time he sees her. Matthew MacFayden conveys so much with his eyes. Perfect movie.

When we first see him, hes all buttoned up and formal and stuffy. Almost as if he dipped his clothes in startch. As he falls in love, his clothes soften, loosen, go from dark blacks to navys and blues. The changes in his wardrobe that reflect his growing love for Elizabeth was well done

I read in a documentary that his evolution and facial features change in tandem with his wardrobe. His shirts and coat colors become softer and are opened to bear his chest (and heart). 😉 I’ve just noticed it.

Huh, I know how she feels. Told that the house was open so she entered then found out her timing was all wrong! Hurried to make herself scarce and give Darcy time to find his way, while she languidly walks away down the verdant path to find hers. Really is between a rock and a hard place with these two. I truly believe that the road is paved with the best of intentions. Hope they both find what they’re looking for.

I think he wanted to walk with her but that would make her so uncomfortable, that’s why she smile and hurriedly said, Goodbye Mr. Darcy! She already felt so nervous and awkward because he caught her in his house peaking through a small opening in the door. I wanted her to keep running when he called her name. I wouldn’t want to stop, too embarrassing!😳🫣🫨😬😵‍💫🥴 I thought she was very brave to go to his house the following day when he invited her to meet his sister by talking to her uncle and aunt. By this time she loved him and felt very nervous around him, but she did want to see him again and meet his sister. So cute! I love it, too much!🥰

She’s supposed to be so proud, so I kind of prefer how she makes it a point to ensure he wouldn’t be home herself before agreeing to visit Pemberly in the book - yet the way she gets caught intruding here was a great change. Just one of the many great choices Wright and the filmmakers made in adapting it.

This truly is so inexplicable romantic. The way they look at each other, admiring and longing but not being able to speak with words of their true feelings. Elizabeth is confused and tries to flee from it while Darcy is finally, in his awkward way, making an effort of looking out for her. His eyes says everything and the perfect example of the female gaze is the picture in the end of his hand, remembering how it felt to touch hers.

I don’t understand people who hate on this version. The 1995 version is a long form tv adaptation faithful to the text, this is a romanticised film version that has to distill the essence of the novel. They are supposed to be different. The way she slowly becomes infatuated with his features, she becomes more shy around him, smiles more at him, the tiny hint of jealousy she feels when she sees his sister hugging him (not knowing who she is), just a beautiful story of two people falling for each other.

Actually, Lizzy approached the place where the music came from when she arrived, she smiles a little because Georgina was playing the same piece on the piano that she played at Catherine's house. In other words, it means that Darcy hummed what Lizzy touched.
