Pride in the Bible

Pride in the Bible, especially in the Gospel of Luke, is a prominent theme of Jesus. Pride, or arrogance, that elevates one to think he's above the other morally or as having more dignity is a sin that Jesus frequently attacks with vigor in the Gospels.
In the parable of the tax-collector and the pharisee, this denouncement of pride in the Bible is in full focus. Interestingly, however, in Jesus' day, his Jewish audience would have expected the Pharisee to have been the "good guy" and the tax-collector to have been the "bad guy." But, Jesus flips this predisposition of his audience on it's head. Pride is found not in the tax-collector but in the Pharisee; and, conversely, humility is found in the tax-collector.
This parable of pride in the Bible calls us to consider our prayer-life and how we go about viewing others. Are we focused more on the other's faults rather than our own? Are we talking to ourselves in prayer rather than talking to God, like the Pharisee?
From this parable of the Pharisee and the Tax-Collector, let us take inventory of acts of pride in our own hearts that manifest themselves on a daily basis in order to grow in self-knowledge and remove such acts of pride from our lives through constant humble prayer.

Good question ; is losing of the soul in this situation , losing it to the light , the light that is the uncreated Creator ? The soul itself continuing to exist , just lost to the transcendent intelligence of all that causes existence to exist . In physical terms if you could think of the 'you' that exists in the uniqueness of your 3.2 billion DNA sequence, that is yours alone ( identical twins aside , they differ in subtler ways) , then the 'you' (whoever you are) that is You , in its one off existence, has chosen to separate itself from the 'Intelligent Agent' of existence , perhaps by choice or some grave sin and is lost to that bond. Space and time , partical and wave began 13.79 BN years ago , nothing exists before but our existence in time and space make difficult grasping the outsideness of it .The source of all that exists now. DNA is a word , semiotic in form , not unlike computer code , and the theological claim is in the beginning there was the Word. We are the word of God spoken into time and space . That word is your soul . 😉

I see how it was I always observe this inside the church or even in many areas where being Hign above with Favors are exalting their own pride.. Those people who are showing off.. Id been through this and Thank GOD He always keep my Heart humble in ways He is the only one who sees.. In many places why lots of people choose to stay at the back esp those who feel small, sinned, poor and feel quietly guilty, shy or just totally humble .. I'm guilty of this. When I am at Mass, I criticize always those who are around me. I criticize those men who do not offer their seats to the standing women, those women who wear inappropriately-though it truly was inappropriate; those who do not kneel at the annunciation of the holy Eucharist.

I struggle with pride. So often sins like sexual sins are brought up and endless discussion happens, damning, but typically pride receives very little articles, very little exhortation to change, yet it's one of the worst sins that causes so much suffering. Pride though is a very difficult sin to struggle against, partly because everything around you is saying pride is good. For those who struggle with pride it's unfortunate because it's really a huge sin that often we find everywhere, even in church, where moral pride can become the norm, yet six things the Lord hates, the top one is pride and it's for good reason. As I reflect, pride is one of the worst sins, way more tbh than sexual sins or addiction issues as often pride in Christians can completely twist the gospel and even become impatient with others who are struggling to overcome their issues and know Jesus more deeply. When we treat others as lesser for any reason, view ourselves as higher, we express not Jesus but everything opposite to the grace and forgiveness found in Jesus, it's pride that makes anyone do that and so it's absolutely sinful. I wish there was way way more talked about pride as a sin. There are not anywhere near enough discussions on pride.

Pharisees are not so different than many religious leaders today. For example we have many like Franklin Graham, loved & respected by so many, but misunderstanding so much, putting themselves so far above certain people. He for example isn't fond of homosexuals & it appears Muslims, refusing to hire homosexuals in his charity/business "Samaritan's Purse". He judges them so strongly regardless of anything else about them. It is debatable whether homosexuality is sin or not, but even if one believes that it is sin, why would they single out that sin, ignoring all the other sin that they & others among them have. I wonder how many of his employees are liars, thieves, drunks, have other sexual sin, are hateful to their neighbors (especially politically motivated in this age), etc., etc..

In any case NO ONE KNOWS WHO WROTE THE GOSPELS, they are ANONYMOUS. Whoever wrote them THEY NEVER SAW OR HEARD JESUS, so the gospels are at best HEARSAY. And more than likely the gospels are PURE FICTION.
