CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Martin (Richard Gere) confronts Aaron (Edward Norton), another personality named Roy comes out.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A high-profile slaying becomes the case of an ambitious attorney's career in this legal thriller based on the novel by William Diehl. Richard Gere stars as Martin Vail, a famed defense lawyer who volunteers his services to Aaron Stampler (Edward Norton), a Kentucky teenager charged with the murder of a Chicago archbishop. Covered with blood, Aaron was captured after a foot chase broadcast live on TV, making a gleeful Vail certain that he could raise his profile by defending the obviously guilty suspect. Assigned to prosecute is Assistant District Attorney Janet Venable (Laura Linney), who is Vail's ex-girlfriend. Vail's case becomes more complicated than he expected when a psychologist, Dr. Molly Arrington (Frances McDormand) concludes that Stampler suffers from multiple personality disorder. Vail also uncovers evidence that the archbishop was involved in a corrupt land scheme and may have molested young parishioners. Now the cynical, opportunistic attorney is faced with a daunting prospect, a client who may actually deserve his best defense. Its shocking, twist ending made Primal Fear (1996) a big box office hit and earned Norton, in his screen debut, an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Too bad he isn't as consistent in choosing very good to great scripts as his fellow actors like Leonardo Dicaprio. Damn shame because Norton is twice the actor that Dicaprio is yet Dicaprio has been on a hot streak getting solid roles in big films with talented filmmakers since 2001. Norton needs to hook up with Dicaprio's agent.

My only problem with this movie is that just there isn't enough of Edward Norton in it. Richard Gere is cool and shit, but the movie would have benefited A LOT if it focused more on Norton rather than the battle of lawyers shit
@itsmeontheinternet7198
@itsmeontheinternet7198 7 жыл бұрын
SPOILER ALERT! Little screen time for that character hides the fact that he is not innocent. It makes it seem like norton character is just another innocent character that plot needs to highlight lawyer's skills. If it did have more norton's character we would have easily suspected that defendant was faking the whole shit.

To handle a performance with two contrary personalities shows that he must be a brilliant actor. So tell me, why got Jennifer Lawrence as a newcomer an oscar for "Silver Linings" (I don't say that it was undeserved), but Edward Norton, as this time also a newcomer, didn't? In my opinion he was better than Cuba Gooding Jr. And what is about his fantastic performance in "American History X"? Why has such a brilliant actor like Edward Norton no oscar? Sorry, but this is unfair.

One of the greatest films of all-time with one of the greatest endings of all-time (in my opinion).

Some actors got better with experience... And then there's Edward Norton. It's tough being his fan since he's hardly ever in any movies... I know he's picky but I wish I could've seen him in more films other than Wes Anderson movies and the ones he wrote himself.

This scene is amazing. It signifies in retrospect just how manipulative “Roy” actually is. He understands that Aaron isn’t working but also understands that playing dumb isn’t going to work. This is also a lawyer who doesn’t understand how MPD actually works, so he can play him masterfully

David Woods yeah he is actually. some people think he is not as expressive but in the beggining he was playing the lawyer playing a role to get sth from his client..and it was very good. Norton also had a much more complex character to play and well wasnt he amazing

ED Norton beat Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Matt Damon auditioned for the movie didnt get it and ended up ripping stubs at the movie theater as people went to see it.
