New Barbarian Stealth is running up to the guard and shouting, "YOU DIDN'T SEE ME!"

I grew up with anger issues, and the raised perception actually makes sense to me. People only think of the "blind lashing out" idea of anger when considering what a rage can do. There are times when your anger instead makes you block out other inputs so you lock in to what you're doing, letting you see things you would otherwise miss. Ya got me on the stealth, though, apart from really stretching out the idea of "I'm gonna be so pissed at myself if I get caught"
@LiteraryDM3 ай бұрын
That's actually rather interesting. Thanks for your insight.

This actually makes me feel very seen. The angrier and more annoyed I get, the quieter I get. My footsteps even get lighter because I'm overemphasizing not stomping my feet. I also become hyperaware of my surroundings. Yay childhood trauma?

Two things real quick. 1. I hope you're doing better now, or finding ways to heal. (No need to get into specifics, just general well wishes). 2. That's actually fascinating, and does provide additional interesting context to it. And I'm glad you actually feel represented with this.

Something I like is that we can still rage while wild shaped. Moon druid at level 3 for a cr 1 beast and 1 level of barbarian for rage.

For examples of "Stealthy Rage" go look at Rambo and the Punisher.

You know that's a fair point.

I always saw Rage as the Barbarian being more animalistic, y'know, like Michael Myers. When you rage you're not just angry, you shed the rational side and do things on instinct. So in my head it made perfect sense, you rage and you can sneak better, like a stalking panther. You rage and you can frighten people, like a bear protecting a kill or it's cubs. You can see better like an owl lookig for prey. So calling it primal knowledge made perfect sense to me. Also I figured that's the reason Barbarians don't get Fighting Style feats, they don't fight like trained warriors, they fight instinctively.

Rewatch Predator. Dutch is a barbarian with guns who uses survival, stealth, and perception while enraged

New! Longer lasting Rage+ makes me think of two characters. Grugg from that one movie nobody remembers, and Gon freaking Hunter Hunter. Stealth rage is just waiting quietly for the opportunity to strike.
@LiteraryDM3 ай бұрын
Grug, like the Nic Cage character from The Croods?
@mrbaldy16653 ай бұрын
Everyone thinks of rage like Hulking out and smashing things. This lets you use a focused John Wick style rage.

So basically, they’re an anime character flaring their aura around themselves… I can kinda see at least parts survival working(basically just powering themselves on by force of will and instinct), but… still kinda weird to apply it to stealth. About all that comes to mind is ye old anime flash step, but that would be more speed/teleporting.🤷♂️ Also… the whole “tapping into the primal energy of Rage” deal kinda makes barbarians seem like they should be a charisma based class, as that’s what covers emotions.😅 Like, it was one thing when said emotions just lead to them hitting things harder. But if it’s becoming some kinda “totally not”-magic, then they’re kinda just a Rage-sorcerer.

I think this is the meme, "You are so angry you see better". But if you are just tapping into primal nature then it feels fine to have any of those skills. I love this feature
@LiteraryDM3 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, as mentioned in the video the context they prove help, but still the image of the Barbarian being a giant rage machine is one that it'll be hard to escape. Which is what makes the image funny. I like the feature for what it does, but am still going to poke fun at it.
@TehSpessPiret3 ай бұрын
it makes some sense. I think the general idea is that you become so enraged, you enter a primal animalistic state of focus, and your movements and sense become more like that of a predator than a regular PC. The problem is that they refuse to word it like that because then it would sound to similar to druids, and so we get this vague text about you tapping into "reality"
@LiteraryDM3 ай бұрын
Absolutely. The new wording helps but as you said is vague. Though the benefit there gives players more freedom to flavor. Overall, the ability works well for its intention.
@nettlesandsnakes91383 ай бұрын
I don’t get hiding, surviving makes sense with the rest of the flavorful skills that are connected to nature.

I can see ways in which RAGING could be used to provide a bonus to some of those skills, but I don't get how Strength is meant to substitute a skill check. Like, how does being strong make you more stealthy, perceptive, or good at foraging?
@leonardorossi9983 ай бұрын
The stronger you are, the more spirits that can get inside you to help you do the thing I guess
@graveyardshift21003 ай бұрын
This is stupid. Just give it expertise in a few skills.
