Excellent! I hear so much garbage that I find it refreshing to hear someone who is well spoken. Thanks for your knowledge/explanations. However, as a precision hand loader I feel overwhelmed at the variables present in my operation. I’m so far behind that I am still focusing on neck tension, brass prep, seating depth and even powder/charge combinations.

Great video, thanks for the content. While I'm not chasing quarter-moa, the likes of you & Erik have definitely helped me up my game where I am very consistently in the half to three-quarter range, which is plenty good for me.

But it has been proven many times in research that a "bad" meplat does nothing. When the bullet travels there is a bubble forming infront of the bullet. Or Lapua would not make some of the best bullets together with Berger, in bench rest etc. The importaint part of the bullet is the tail, thats why HPBT bullets exists - the lead has to get inside the bullet somehow and making a even tail is easier with it going from the front. You will get extremely consistent jackets that way to, much easier then making reverse "open bottom" bullets like traditional FMJ.. Plastic tips is just marketing. hornady needs something to separate them from every other bullet out there, and what better way then a red tip?

Hey Greg, I’m getting ready to start measuring and comparing my Berger “7mm 180g match VLD Hunting” bullets. II have 5,000 of a single lot # sitting & waiting. I was going to check weight variations just for my knowledge, but mainly I’m interested in base to ogive for now. Did I hear you say you’d recommend an undersized bullet comparator? What size would you recommend? Like a 6.5? I was going to use a Sinclair micrometer stand with a Short Action Customs bullet comparator. So yeah, my main question is what size bullet comparator do you suggest for 7mm bullets? Thanks!

@@primalrights I like what you said at about the 45:00 mark. I don't think me sorting any of my bullets right now will matter until I get my rifle online and get some reloading experience, and some experience behind the rifle, and a starting load developed, and make sure I'm doing everything else correctly in the reloading process first.

@@primalrights Hey Greg, I've been giving bullet sorting more thought over the past month. I have 5,000 180g Berger VLD Hunting Bullets waiting. You showed us several different ways to consider sorting bullets. My question to you is, what method(s) do you prefer to use if you want the most accurate 7PRC Primal Hunting rounds you could get? I want to get sub 1/4 MOA Ammo produced. Do you prefer to sort base to Ogive? Or overall length in that situation? What tools do you like to use when sorting? Do you use just calipers? Or do you like to use a dial indicator? I got a Mitutoyo dial indicator, accurate to within +/- .00012". I also got a lifting lever for the indicator. I was thinking of sorting base to ogive. I was using my indicator with the SAC 7mm bullet insert. The problem I ran into just the other day, is that it was extremely difficult to get a repeatable measurement. I tried for 20 minutes to measure the same exact bullet and each time I was getting different readings depending on if the bullet was at a slight angle, or how hard I pushed it into the SAC comparator. I was getting readings varying +/- .005" on the same exact bullet and easily getting differences of .001" depending on how I put the bullet in the comparator. I was wondering if you had any advice for me on this? Thanks Greg.
@livefiretacticaltraining76743 ай бұрын
Oh, and I also got a flat indicator tip for the Mitutoyo indicator. I have several different sizes. Right now, I have 10mm diameter flat indicator tip.
@livefiretacticaltraining76743 ай бұрын
This weekend I got rid of the 10mm flat indicator tip on my Digital Indicator and put on a pointed tip and just made sure to put it in the center of the base of the bullet and now I'm able to get consistent measurements on the same piece. I'm thinking I'll just sort base to ogive for now and use the anomalies to break in my barrel. I weighed 100 bullets this weekend and they were within .22g extreme spread, just as Berger advertises. So I don't think weight sorting is of that much benefit to me right now. I don't like the overall length measurement because of how ugly those tips look. I don't like the bearing surface measurement because it's kind of a pain to take it and you have to use calipers and apply the exact same pressure, which is hard to do. It just doesn't seem like an accurate way to sort to me. So I'm deciding to go with the base to ogive using my digital indicator with the pointed tip. Weight sorting is out for now, overall length is out for now, bearing surface is out for now, and I don't think I'll even worry about diameter for now. I'll see how I do first with this base to ogive sorting. You know, I was all gung ho to come down and train with you right away, but on second thought, now I'm thinking it will probably be much better if I at least shoot out a barrel first. I bet I can figure out a heck of a lot on my own just from watching your videos and some occasional phone calls and experimenting on my own and making some mistakes. Thanks for all your help!
@livefiretacticaltraining76744 ай бұрын
So, after sorting your bullets into groups, whether that be by weight, bearing surface, or base to ogive, what then? Do you load them differently? Do you load them at different seating depths? Or do you just expect to adjust your zero when you get to the next group?
@sauce60923 ай бұрын
So would metplat trimming and /or pointing be a beneficial step for bthps like hornadys?
@davecollins61135 ай бұрын
Thinking maybe you missed mentioning how varying pressure, can create varying obturation, on the base, and as well on the entire bullet, affecting the friction level in the bore as well.

Hi Greg, I have a question on measuring bearing surface. In your testing have you found with Berger’s that sorting this way has made a difference on target? I have not tested this myself. I have found that base to ogive is very consistent and the biggest variation in the Berger projectiles that I have worked with comes in overall length. A little in weight too. I have been told by one of my mentors who is a long range Benchrest national champion that unless you are trimming and pointing the only sorting he found in his testing that made a difference on target was overall length. You have me curious and now thinking I need to test this all for myself. 🤷🏻♂️

Think about it for a moment. Look at the humans doing bad things to each other. Yet, God has mercy. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son." We have all sinned and done wrong things. The one thing you have to do, "the one job you have," is to accept that Christ is your savior. And go and sin no more but seek forgiveness because you will sin again. And, on the accuracy thing, every time I think about something, such as neck turning or the center of gravity of a bullet and no one seems to talk about it, here is Greg, talking about it. Please, keep bringing this content. And God bless you and your family and friends, as well as all of the fans of primalrights.
